Truly an epic production, almost too much fun to cram in one weekend. Wow to the 458 and GT3. Of course we can now say that Ferrari did indeed out-do itself with 488 Turbo, what a beastly beauty (can that even be said?) haha ... Loads of fun. Thanks again Chris!!
Wow what an awesome day out! Have to say my personal favourite cars from 2014 are the M3 and GT3, they are just so good what ever you throw at them. But if I'm honest all these cars in this vid are all absolutely magnificent! Great vid Chris, loved every second of it! Hope 2015 brings as much joy as 2014 was for cars! :)
Mzn T Yeah but the track has a pretty long straight, where the Beemer has plenty more ponies, and the M3 is also no slouch in corners. So the Megane, whilst indeed stripped, is a really epic piece of engineering.
Ovidiu Diumea And I do not challenge that at all ;) The Megane probably is the best in its class; it wouldn't be present in this video if the alternatives were better. BTW dupa nume as zice ca ne intelegem si-n alta limba :D
He comments that the Speciale feels subjectively like it might not have quite the same punch out of corners as the GT3, and then when he looks at the stopwatch he's smashed the GT3 by 5 seconds...he's a second faster than the F12...and he's 2 seconds off the 918. At the risk of understatement, it seems the Speciale is pretty well sorted. If Ferrari manages to deliver turbo punch without losing the trademark responsiveness on its imminent 458 replacement, what on earth are we going to be talking about? A baby Ferrari that's a second off a 918?
Since posting the above, news of the 488 GTB has emerged, and what Ferrari is telling us is that it's half a second faster than the Speciale around Firoano. So, when the "Speciale" version of the 488 GTB comes out...yes...we'll potentially have a baby Ferrari that's a second off a 918 around this track.
Let's hope on the 488 Scuderia to be released soon. Mclaren has shown their lighter track model. The weight figures are claimed best in class. We have to see 1 weighed before believing the claims. 675 LT has Trofeo R tires as standard. Should be interesting to see on a track with all this grip. Porsche has said of building a mid-engine rival for both Mclaren and Ferrari models.
Huxxy the 488 GTB is a monster -- huge bump in HP over the Speciale, should be an almost uncomfortably close rival for the F12 in terms of pure speed. In terms of pure sex, though, the F12 is still king of the Ferraris. Interesting to imagine *its* successor...
Is it just me, or would anyone else like to see Chris Harris drive an actual competition drift car?! I’ve thought this for a while. He’s an absolute beast in basically everything he drives, but I’d love to see what he could do in a car built solely for drifting. Thinking Formula Drift or D1GP, would be great to watch.
Chris, thank you for making this peace of art! You did the right decision leaving Drive and doing your own thing! Keep up the amazing work, I love your videos :)
I love this special video, are you going to do specials like top gear for the holidays no disrespect to the boys but this video is too awesome to only come once a year. More like this please!
Back here in Dec 2021 to remind myself what proper motoring content is all about. Such a shame CHOC stopped, but fair play to Chris for going after bigger things. Top bloke.
Out of the three new Hyper cars the Porsche is the most impressive, considering the weight and that its low on power compare to the other two, the lap times it pulls are actually amazing.
Fair point but I would put my money on lightless and more power to beat AWD (plus a lot more weight) grip and to be honest the P1 grips like hell when it's on track mode so really there is no excuses, I like all three but I'm really impressed with the 918.
Technical the 918 is 4WD not AWD. There is no drive shaft connecting front to rear. The 918 does have the grip advantage under 100mph. After this speed P1 and LaFerrari aero grip/RWD comes into play far greater.LaFerrari aero systems cut around 128mph. P1 is the only 1 aero stays active at all speeds. LaFerrari does have the bigger rear tires. Front are similar size to 918. Still 4WD system is very in play at lower speeds. Auto Car review with P1 and 918 goes into details of P1's aero grip to 918. The power issue is a endless debate. 918 isn't short of power till front e-motor cuts at 165mph. Even then it still has more torque then P1 and LaFerrari after cut of e-motor. Before e-motor cut 918 has some 250+lb-ft advantage of both RWD cars. If you want to take this power issue further. P1 and LaFerrari aren't in there peak hp range till over 160mph. This is no 903hp or 950 at 100mph. All 3 in HP are very much similar say 140mph. 918 power to weight hurts it above 100mph.
Jeffrey Williams 4WD means there's a transfer case like a Jeep or Jimney where you have to shift to engage 4WD; all four wheels travel at same speed and is not meant for on-road stuff. AWD is any system that allows power to be apportioned to individual wheels or individual axles. A drive shaft connecting front/rear is not relevant so much as a differential on each axle is. The 918 has the "smartest" chassis and drivetrain, namely the good torque vectoring and its traction-related electronics that allows it to be competitive while being down on power and up on weight. Chassis design is the name of the game, much like how the GT-R keeps up with rivals and in this comparo, the Megane Trophy beating the M3.
michaelthepsycho even the same person in one single video sometimes refers to the car in 4WD and a couple mins later as AWD. don't be that guy, you'll thank me later
Mr. Harris, i salute you for making The best automotive video on the whole of the intrrnet! The passion, charisma and feel you put out to all of us petrolheads is beyond anything else! If there was a hall of fame of automotive reviewers, you'd wear the crone! Amen ;-)
I think they would get them if they would have worked harder on their product (car reviewing) and simply put more effort in making these.. So ye, it kind of is..
kagolko Motor Trend is not only the biggest Automotive Channel on UA-cam, it's also one of the biggest magazine publications on the market. Plenty of effort goes into what they do.
Adrian Doyle Each to their own my fellow commenter. I think their videos are nicely presented for the most part. Their decisions/verdicts in the videos, of course, are usually the thing that people dislike. The video quality itself is fine.
Nue Rroku I'm to much into V12 and I hate front wheel drive. About BMW: I just hate the fact they put sound through loudspeakers. i think it's just not fair. and BTW: V6...
Chris, thank you so much you and your team, you guys are awesome your videos are allways great, you just get us in to it, i feel like i was there, you transmite your exciment and we get excited always get a long smile watching you. Again thanks.
M3 is good but I'm surprised to see a weaker little Renault faster then a supposedly perfect Bmw m3 .... What would ///M fans think of that result... Don't get me wrong I love Bmw but It can't lose to a front wheel drive hatch back !!!!
Rip out the interior of the M3, add more track-oriented suspension and you will demolish that little Renault. Not so say that the Renault is bad, its a sweet piece of grocery-getting machinery.
Raven05R6 I don't think it's bad, I would take that over the fat m3 ! And ok it's not the prettiest car, ok it's nt the fastest when you mix all kind of cars, ok it's fwd but damn, it's a racecar that you can drive everyday. It's more like a fwd lotus. Don't bash a car brand for things they don't have, but glorify the effort put to create an enjoyable (and fast) car.
Have we reached a point where /ONCARS is better than Top Gear? I know, different kind of product, but /ONCARS is now way more fun than Clarkson and friends.
Ooohh, that's tough. I don't think they're really comparable, Top Gear is meant for mass entertainment, whereas On Cars is more serious stuff for people who really love cars. As for entertainment value I think TG is something you can just chill out, watch it, have a good laugh and forget about it by the next day. On Cars on the other hand is immersive, engaging, and captivating, it feels like Chris really pours his heart and soul into every video and won't take anything less than perfection. Lets call it a tie and enjoy some quality content from both! ;)
I watched the new episode of Top Gear and got bored. Chris' stuff is non stop - he can drive, he knows his shit and it's interesting to listen to what he has to say. He was good on Joe Rogan's show for three hours.
I hate to admit it ....but I think you are right. Top Gear has strayed to far from it's enthusiasts roots. I still love watching it, but I feel like it has become more of an entertainment show about cars than a car show that's entertaining.
I really feel unworthy of such a video. Absolute bliss watching it, even though it stung a bit as a BMW fanboy! Such is life! Thank you for the video, guys, genuinely.
Why are you surprised? The M3 is a daily driver, seats 4, has 4 doors, loads of leather, entertainment system, A/C, and every other comfort you want from a luxury compact sport sedan. The Renault is a 2-seater - 2-door hot-hatch....and well....let me just copy n paste from their website: 100 kg lighter than Renaultsport 275 Trophy thanks mostly to the use of lighter material (eg. titanium exhaust), removal of the back seats and removal of some equipment (such as radio and air conditioning). Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slick tyres, the same tyres that Ferrari used on its 458 Speciale and Porsche on its 911 GT3 Öhlins adjustable Road&Track dampers, derived from the Mégane N4 Rally Red or black Speedline wheels (optional) + Michelin tires high performance Pilot Sport Cup 2 (lightweight racing wheels) 2 seats - Recaro Pole Position unibody polycarbonate painted glossy black front with bi-material marking Renault Sport AT
Because are the best? Because the 458 wins Le Mans GT series for 4 consecutive years? Because wins the Le Mans 24h in GT category? (GTpro and amateur). Because the Speciale wins for best engine 2014? Who knows why the Speciale wins in any test (not only this but every comparisons). Who knows why any tester remains astonished from the F12. Sure.. are all paid from Ferrari.. every magazine (C. Harris, EVO, FifthGear, Autocar.. etc).. all corrupt. Ferrari is what it's thanks to almost 70 years of races and victories.. is passion and technology at the highest levels. Ferrari cars are real.. their races are real (not straight-line race between amateurs on youtube video).
lazios Shut up. Did you even understand my comment you illiterate moron? If you followed Chris Harris you'll know he criticised one of their cars which resulted in Ferrari spitting their dummy out and banned him from reviewing their cars. Chris then had to 'apologise' by buying a Ferrari and reviewed a 458 spider unknown to them and raved about it. Also I don't agree with you GT pro 458's are driven by amateurs and are only good for crashing into LMP class cars.
lazios I'm English which is spoken the world over. You've clearly misunderstood my comment to Chris so don't go giving it loads because you've made yourself look like a fool. It was not a criticism against Ferrari. I like Ferrari. Its just funny how once Chris wasn't all that bothered by a Ferrari but once his career was in question when they stopped him reviewing their cars he changed his tune. That was it. There was no need to jump on your high horse. Also I have to laugh at the number of Ferrari's taking part in Le Mans this year. There's about 4 Porsche's in GT Pro.
Chris Harris, you are the F12 of auto journalism. UA-cam video of the year by a large margin. Well done!

Just re watching this.....absolutely brilliant video. We need more of this Mr Harris 🙌
That's what's all about.... What a video... Made my day!
Thank you Mr. Harris!
Chris Harris!!!! Thank you sir..
I was shocked at the Megane time and then the 458 rubbing soldiers with the 918 blew my mind!
EPIC stuff man.
Chris, and everyone involved in this film, thanks. You have outdone yourselves here
Who would think that a 4 cylindres Megane would be faster than a Bmw M3... Great show by the way!
People that knew beforehand how much track oriented the Megane is :P
Mzn T Yeah but the track has a pretty long straight, where the Beemer has plenty more ponies, and the M3 is also no slouch in corners. So the Megane, whilst indeed stripped, is a really epic piece of engineering.
Ovidiu Diumea And I do not challenge that at all ;)
The Megane probably is the best in its class; it wouldn't be present in this video if the alternatives were better.
BTW dupa nume as zice ca ne intelegem si-n alta limba :D
Amazing Chris, the enjoyment you bring to our hearts is priceless
Fantastic video and great use of slow-motion and sideways action as always :p Chris Harris you make it look too easy
UA-cam at its finest. Chris Harris on Cars from no media channel. Pure theatre and auto experience.
Huxxy I'd take the 458 Speciale's lap time with just a pinch of salt for obvious reasons.
Christian Coopersmith Everything is crazy power these days. Can't see how these HP jumps are sustainable...
Chris Harris is by far the best, unbiased car reviewer on UA-cam. His videos are full of facts, figures and genuine enthusiasm. Keep it up!
F12 all day.
Can't believe Renault got better lap time than the M3. I demand a re-match lol.
WOW, 42minutes 8 seconds well spent!
Thank you Chris (and the team) for this awesome video.
Epic video I think
if you love cars and enjoy the Chris Harris way of presenting, and driving them, then this surely is for you :)
Wow..the quality of this film. Just breathtaking!
Wow, amazing piece of video Mr Harris! Love it!
Effing excellent production. Well done Chris Harris and your team. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this
Still one of the best car videos ever made.
This was one of the best car videos I've ever watched. Thank you!
Thank you Chris - I am donating to the cause, worth every penny to keep these coming!
That transition on 20:27 ..hats off to you sir !
Jeffrey Williams ''Technical(ly) the 918 is 4WD not AWD'' do you live in a world where cars have 3 or 5 wheels?
Jeffrey Williams
4WD means there's a transfer case like a Jeep or Jimney where you have to shift to engage 4WD; all four wheels travel at same speed and is not meant for on-road stuff.
Watching somebody this happy just brightens your day.
I love the layovers when the next car catches the already reviewed one
Probably the best motoring video ever made. Beats all others hands down for entertainment, pure driving ability, and camera work.
He really does like the F12! :)
+Aristeidis Kypriotis I think everyone likes the F12 :)
What an outstandingly beautiful video. You win the "Video for the Car of the Year" award! I will watch this video a few times for sure.
Ferrari starts it Ferrari ENDS it...........yes the best for last 458 Speciale!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Harris, i salute you for making The best automotive video on the whole of the intrrnet! The passion, charisma and feel you put out to all of us petrolheads is beyond anything else!
If there was a hall of fame of automotive reviewers, you'd wear the crone!
Amen ;-)
Atleast he is not like the shitty MOTOR Trend Guys.
It's not Motor Trend's fault they didn't get the cars they asked for.
I think they would get them if they would have worked harder on their product (car reviewing) and simply put more effort in making these.. So ye, it kind of is..
kagolko Motor Trend is not only the biggest Automotive Channel on UA-cam, it's also one of the biggest magazine publications on the market.
Plenty of effort goes into what they do.
idh0530
Their presents for the most suck though, the Roadkill guys... they are cool!
Adrian Doyle Each to their own my fellow commenter. I think their videos are nicely presented for the most part.
Their decisions/verdicts in the videos, of course, are usually the thing that people dislike. The video quality itself is fine.
This is like listening to a new LP, but just watching cars. This is so awesome.
F12 Berlinetta > 458 Speciale > 918 > 911 GT3 > V12 Vantage S> M3 > Trophy R :D
I'd swap F12 and 458. Rest of it is ok :)
Trophy R before Vantage and M3 if you watched the video and knew two things about cars.
Nue Rroku I'm to much into V12 and I hate front wheel drive.
About BMW: I just hate the fact they put sound through loudspeakers. i think it's just not fair.
and BTW: V6...
DziadekMroz6666 I love that V12 to much tho. I had hard time thinking which one I would choose tho.
J0lker BMW has an inline 6, not a v6 ;) Just a little correction
Chris and the rest of the team, thanks for making one of the best track car videos i've ever seen, Loved it....
I think he likes the F12
Chris, thank you so much you and your team, you guys are awesome your videos are allways great, you just get us in to it, i feel like i was there, you transmite your exciment and we get excited always get a long smile watching you. Again thanks.
Open the video, like the video and then play the video. How it goes for every Chris Harris video
Damn straight
***** oi mate! roight! gawt down undah lerb lerb lerb LOL W00T ROFLCOPTERS MANTA RAY WOW LMAFO
I had just as much fun watching this as you guys probably had making this. Thanks for the great content!
M3 is good but I'm surprised to see a weaker little Renault faster then a supposedly perfect Bmw m3 .... What would ///M fans think of that result... Don't get me wrong I love Bmw but It can't lose to a front wheel drive hatch back !!!!
The Meganne is a proper track car though and weighs less than the M3. The bmer is a Super Saloon car which is totally different.
Rip out the interior of the M3, add more track-oriented suspension and you will demolish that little Renault. Not so say that the Renault is bad, its a sweet piece of grocery-getting machinery.
Raven05R6 Even if BMW make the CRT version of the M3 like they did with the E90, it will be superb.
Renaulr especially build that car in order to cheat their way back to the top of Nürburgring times.
Chris always delivers! I don't even bother with any other auto journalists, Harris is the king!
Lets call it a tie and enjoy some quality content from both! ;)
Trygve Germo
Agreed. I watch Top Gear because its entertaining, but i watch Chris Harris because i love cars.
I watched the new episode of Top Gear and got bored. Chris' stuff is non stop - he can drive, he knows his shit and it's interesting to listen to what he has to say.
He was good on Joe Rogan's show for three hours.
Trygve Germo conaghy BeatsToTheBass let's just agree that both are awesome, and keep watching both!! =D
Yes Chris YES! oh my god thank you;
That video was "wow wow wow" Chris. Loved every second of it!
Bless you Chris, bless you.
Absolutely loved this video - my favourite video in UA-cam by an enormous margin! Thank you Chris !
2:30 - If CHRIS HARRIS says a car is 'cool' it is most definitely, absolutely correct
This is probably the best car video on the internet. You've really outdone yourselves.
The Megane has a faster laptime than the M3? Thats ridiculous
its not ridiculous because the megane have better chasis
he couldnt drift the megane
analanalyst Because FWD my friend.
TransformersMan - Racing Games And Other Stuff! well thats why the m3 was slower
Why are you surprised? The M3 is a daily driver, seats 4, has 4 doors, loads of leather, entertainment system, A/C, and every other comfort you want from a luxury compact sport sedan.
The Renault is a 2-seater - 2-door hot-hatch....and well....let me just copy n paste from their website:
100 kg lighter than Renaultsport 275 Trophy thanks mostly to the use of lighter material (eg. titanium exhaust), removal of the back seats and removal of some equipment (such as radio and air conditioning).
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slick tyres, the same tyres that Ferrari used on its 458 Speciale and Porsche on its 911 GT3
Öhlins adjustable Road&Track dampers, derived from the Mégane N4 Rally
Red or black Speedline wheels (optional) + Michelin tires high performance Pilot Sport Cup 2 (lightweight racing wheels)
2 seats - Recaro Pole Position unibody polycarbonate painted glossy black front with bi-material marking Renault Sport AT
Amazing video!! Cinematography, graphics, and music together give this incredible Gran Turismo feel to it, especially in the car introductions :)
Should've included that Polo in the contest...
Too unfair...it would have won.
Sincere thanks for posting this video. An instant classic. AND FREE! Respect.
Love how generous you are to the Ferrari models after the problems you caused yourself with honest criticism in yester-years.
***** illiterate...
why don't try you to speak my language?
In any case...
bad eng or no you're an idiot.
bye.
LOL another idiot..
lazios I'm English which is spoken the world over.
45 minute Chris Harris car of 2014 you say? Best damn thing on the tube. Awesome!
