It's the best-looking M3 ever made IMO. It's also the most criminally underrated M car ever. Yes, the very first models were very spiky on a damp road, but the Competition and especially the CS version made it so much more tied down, and frankly, better. It's a better all-around car than the E90 M3 IMO, and the M4 GTS... One of the best M cars in a decade.
Chris Harris. The only motoring journalist who knows what he's talking about. I'd buy a car, that he rates, without driving it myself....I trust him that much
A man who can really drive properly, and who has driven pretty much every car worth driving loves the car and enjoys it...but internet race drivers (most of them without a drivers licence of course) call it bad and point out all kinds of negatives about it (without ever coming close to the actual car of course)...how hilarious.
fuckoffgoogle He usually breaks his videos in 3 parts: Normal street driving, circuit time attack, then drifting (covering all driving bases). People who buy these cars may not drift them everywhere, but they like the fact their car is capable of doing it. Make sense? Plus Chris Harris actually has professional racing experience he can do it all
fuckoffgoogle You did see the first part of the video where Chris drives the M3 on open roads? All in all, you don't burn / waste more rubber on a M3 than on an AWD-car with that amount of power. Yeah, the rear tires get it hard. On an AWD-car you burn the rear tires less but you burn your front tires, too. Not a real comparison but I had an E39 M5 a couple of years ago. Not turbocharged but very capable of drifting. And you know what? If you don't go nuts the tires were not an issue at all. BUT: If you want to go nuts from time to time and still want to have daily-use-capabilities, there's no better car than an RWD M-car.
I did similar, pulled the trigger on a 2017 m4 coupe with low kms last week. Looking forward to finally have one. I love the BMW straight 6s, having previous drove a e92 335i and more recently the m140i. I tried the c43 amgs and Audi s5 coupe, just didn’t connect with either of those cars.

Chris, your descriptions are incredibly precise, articulated, and well-balanced with both pros and cons with EVERY car and just great journalism. On top of that the man can drive so really the best reporter out there bar none. Motor Trend or one of the American mags, if they want a shot in the arm... they hire this guy.

Just have fun with it. Chris was having fun with it and pushing his limits. That's what I mean by how you drive an M3. It's the ultimate driving machine.
Finally got my F80 M3 in, in Mineral Gray/Sakhir Orange interior. The car is a MONSTER, in a complete other league from my 335is coupe. Still in the break-in stage, but this car is powerful! Love your videos Chris!
As an owner of a 2018 m3 competion pack I love this car. I've just had all new exhaust from the turbos back and new charge pipes and coolers. I love it
Chriss harris is one of my biggest inspirations. He brings energy fun and interactive feeling to you the viewer. Makes you feel like you're a part of the action and that why i do my car show with so much viger and enthusiasm. Cars just bring this out in me and on-screen it show. I love it💗 LET'S ROLL OUT people👏👏👏👏
I just want to say that the E90 M3 V8 engine is a masterpiece. I always liked non aspirated engines but that V8 is something else. I had the pleasure of drive a 4door for a few kms and just starting it, and the way it just revs... made my day, week, month even. Pleasure over performance any day. And... it doesn't lack performance, maybe by the new one standards, ok fine but I know what my choice would be. V8 for life ;-)
Why do people whine so much about the sound? It's a very good sounding car by any standard. I dare you to drive it and say "it sounds bad". Also...why does nobody on the internet (it doesn't matter, those people can't and won't buy it anyway) realize the point of this car? This is not a track car, or a race car. This is sporty luxury saloon car. This M3, and the current generation of the M5, are EXACTLY what these cars are all about. A combination of a luxury car that can be used every day, for every possible imaginable purpose, that looks tasteful but aggressive enough, that has a comfortable and luxurious interior, but can also be a sports car, that can be driven hard fun on THE ROAD (where 99% of these cars will spend 99% of their time) and driven very quickly on THE ROAD while remaining civilized. This is not a track car. Do you people realize the difference between a race track and a road? Do you realize how much different the setup of a car has to be in order to extract everything out of it on a track? Cars are set up for roads that have bumps, camber changes, surface changes, elevation changes, etc. Not for smooth tracks with a perfect surface and dry tarmac. The point of this car is to be comfortable, refined, luxurious AND sporty at the same time, and that requiers certain sacrifices. You have to get the balance right, and BMW did it. If the car was any softer overall, it would be too soft and too close to the regular 3 series. If it was any harder, it would be too uncomfortable on the road. If you want a track car, but a Cayman S, not a 4 door family sedan. There's no point in taking a family sedan and turning it into a hardcore stripped out race car, it's very inefficient and franky a waste of time.
That amount of torque is on par with BMW's own 3 litre diesel. . .but with petrol fuel instead. That kind of engineering is simply incredible, bearing in mind BMW has a reputation of building damned torquey diesels.
Awesome! Harris's own channel! Subscribed! Best part of the video he licks the car! LOL. The M3/M4 is phenomenal. Drove it at Advanced M School at VIR. Great performer and very fun all out on the track. Learned there that the M3/M4 are virtually identical and perform identically so if you need a coupe or 4 door you don't lose either way.
M4 Comp - still the best and most enjoyable car I have owned. Looked gorgeous and stylishly aggressive. Fighter jet driving dynamics yet fine as a DD. Still miss it, even in my F90.

The lack of tuneful NA sounds is a bit of a blow, I think this has always been a large part of the M3 although I personally also like the different character a turbo gives to an engine. On the plus side, some simple bolt on mods & mild tuning would likely turn it into a pretty raucous thing.
It only has one major problem. And it goes by the name CTS-V. Supercharged LT-4 making somewhere around 650bhp and the only trannsmission faster than the PDK is going to be tough to beat. Can't wait for you to review that car. Maybe even a head to head? Would like to see ATS-V Coupe versus M4, CTS-V Sedan versus M3
When you were cornering around the turns in the first 2 minutes. What type of settings were you using to break a little rubber on the road around turns. Was DSC turned off, or were you in MTM mode, or both? Thanks for answering this question because I have been very cautious about using MTM or DSC mode because this car can literally send you off the road before you leave 1st gear, and 2nd and 3rd gear are BEASTLY!
It's still hilarious to me that people talk more about the sound the car makes rather than what the car does. As many times as I've watched this review, it still never gets old. Chris' reaction to the monster drifts on the circuit is still funny as hell.
