I know this was made 10 months ago lol but I’m building the block and putting it back now. So for the 1st chain, you turn the crank with the the chain on the cams and crank to the diagonal position? And that lines up the cams? And after you rotate it back?
@SubieTech 1.6L is timing the same for all BRZ/FRS/86 platforms? Asking because I'm planning on doing this as well very soon. Also, will I have to purchase 2 new "tensioners grenade pins" ?

One side of my cam sprockets won’t sit in its proper place for timing. The top cam jumps counter clockwise and the bottom cam jumps clockwise, the arrow won’t stay pointing at each other. How do you get them to stay in proper timing?
There is a service position with the crankshaft keyway facing 10 o'clock where the LH cams are unloaded. Put the chain on in this position using the links for timing.
What was the reason this engine needed the chain replaced? Was there something else you were working on that required the removal of the chain? Just curious

@@subietech1.6 Good to know, I was thinking I'd have to at least remove the cat but that sounds even better, that would probably open up another can of worms with the cat to turbo nuts/studs, my CVT oil pump cover or TC seal seems to be leaking and I'd rather not be crawling around on the floor fighting with the cvt if I can help it. Have you done many reseals on the pump covers? How heavy are the cvts, too heavy for one man? Thanks
Have you come across Cam gear failure? P0018 code, runs and idles fine? 18 WRX fa20 39K miles, Thoughts? replacement for cam gear would require chain to be removed and the 3 bolts to pull the cam gear of cam shaft itself and put new one on correct?
@@joseTorres-tn3pl Swap out the left and side camgear sensors, if the code changed to the po0019 i belive it is then your sensor is bad, if the code stays the same p0018 then the camgear has debris in it "material in your oil" or the gear has just failed, Recommend pulling motor to swap out so when you put cover back on you can get a good seal, You can do it with in the engine bay and not remove but it will be little tougher to be sure a good seal on the gasket itself, Let me know what you find out
James Manfredi i have p0017 fail code...just swaped small block. I cant find reason for a long time( Changed sensors - no success, same code. Idles are fine. Any ideas please!
The First Step of procedure doesn't show up to avoid piston and valve hit each other then tensioner is over tighten using gun instead of torque wrench just 7Nm.😉😎

Odd question, but the knock sensors on this engine must be at a specific angle. I can't find what that angle is anywhere. any ideas?

Can you remove the motor on a 2017 Forester XT without removing the exhaust manifold/turbo etc?
Yes the manifold, turbo, and catalytic converter can stay on. But has to be disconnected from the rest of the exhaust.

You have remove the entire engine to replace one? Dealership will charge me an arm so kinda looking into doing it myself
Next time put the Camera on a Tripod, A lot of essential assembly was missed because the camera was shaky and pointed on the floor.

Can you do it in the car?
Yes you can do the timing cover and chains in car but just about anything else you need to pull the engine
