Just my 2 cents on the topic of the value of olympic lifts as a non-athlete: I started seeing the carryover of oly lifts when it came to manual labor haha Picking up rocks, logs and all that I noticed that a lot of it felt very similar to how it felt doing a clean and snatch And I'm even putting that over strongman lifts surprisngly, I think a bunch of the technique like grips and how to shoulder/rest the weight for good leverages I can attribute to strongman but the feeling of moving and catching felt far more like oly lifting Kettlebells too, mainly for rotational stuff, my back felt much less prone to tweaks because it felt so similar to some kettlebell rotational work I've been doing for months as supplemental conditioning after workouts
@@sahed8774 Honestly just those weighted wall throws you would do with medicine balls except instead of rotating to one side then throwing, don't throw the kettlebell Another one would be kinda like a kettlebell swing but instead of in between the legs, you alternate between your left and right side twisting your body to try to let it swing a bit further back
Even as a novice in the Olympic lifts, i noticed a definite change in my verticle jumping ability when I started incorporating them a few months ago. My goal was to dunk, and without actually training jumping to the rim, the oly lifts helped me improve significantly
Will, do you believe that one can become good at recreational weightlifting starting after the age of 20? What do you think about training Powerlifting + Weighlifting? Hugs from Brazil!
Will do you think snatch grip high pulls provide many of the benefits listed in this video without the "burden" of having to learn the whole snatch movement? I was able to pick it up very quickly and do them for reps with 0 weightlifting exp. While focusing on keeping the bar close and elbows high I found I was jumping straight up and back a small bit. Then reviewing slow-mo footage I noticed the knee bend and torso position was almost exactly the same as when I two foot jump. I feel like anyone who could horse 3 plates on this movement would be a powerhouse
I kno a man, Steve Zeigman, who claims the high pull is THE ONLY exercise ANYONE needs ..and he is serious lol...obviously it is programmed and periodized...just interesting..
I've never seen an improvement in my jumping from weightlifting. I mean i can't completely isolate it, but in the periods of time I've been weightlifitng, my jumping hasn't progressed any quicker than periods of time wasn't doing it.
Steroids help both jumping and lifting, as does simply developing from a 14 year old that just had his growth spurt to someone that has more control over there body, so when you see a coach that said they took a weak uncoordinated freshman and put 15 pounds on him and had him dunking by senior year or someone that says they took there squat from 265 to 450 and their vert went up 5+ inches, you know what’s up
He never claimed to be an Olympic weightlifter. You don't need perfect technique like Kuo-sing Chun to get the benefits. His technique is fine. Will's technique is better than vast majority of gym bros if they can do the Olympic lifts at all. Don't be such a contentious prick.
Even if I didn't agree with what Will says, I'd still watch the videos to see him throw those weights.
Can you state your disagreements?

@@maalik310 I can't, because I don't. I just meant if I did. Entertaining informative videos
This guy made me stop the loaded jumps and work on my overhead mobility stop being lazy and give Oly lifts a shot
Sick art in that basketball gym
Gotta listen to Will on x.75 speed 🤯
very good observation. thank you

Examples of the kettlebell exercises you were referring to?

So true. You're very powerful and extremely explosive.
Fuckin love it mate, excellent content. Only thing I struggle with is how to program this stuff
Check out Hoss Olympic!
@@willratelle8027 thank you! Just came across your channel and currently binge watching all your old videos haha

have you ever mentioned your standing reach and max touch with a vertec or smtg similar?
I can't speak for anyone else but for me I feel like Olympic lifts have been great for jumping.
Do you favour power- over full clean and front- over back squat for transfer to vertical jump performance? Thank you!
Oly lifts involve triple extension of the ankles, knees, and hips.

So your saying don't get into a jumping position at all? I disagree especially for athletes
@@frostedflakes55 I think the oc was just talking about how he didn't realize that's something that naturally occurs during the clean.
