Enjoy the stories behind the video games!
No one cares man tbh, like seriously. If your hurting inside you sold games reminisce to yourself like come on, what even is this channel
Ecco and Flashback were on display at my local store circa 1993 (La FNAC) and I remember looking at them and thinking wow, this looks really really good and ever since I kept some attachment to them, especially Flashback.
@Star Lord lol bruh
World Series baseball is still my favorite baseball game, my Genesis was the first console I had of my own that wasn't the family game system. I tebought the original and 98 so I can look at the growth of the game from start to finish on the Genesis.
At least send me 1$ so i can go buy bread
Man... im 40 and have become a shelf collector as well... I recently told my wife i get more out of finding things than actually playing the games... and if im being honest i hardly play the games i buy
You really have me thinking and I think im at a point where id rather just have the games i have a connection too.... even if they arent worth much
Thank you
I’m 41 and I have been getting out of the collecting scene for a few years now, I only have 1/4th of what I originally had, but I have been selling off stuff slowly instead of doing a big bulk thing like Shawn. Good luck in your collection thinning venture!
Ya, 38 here, I'm at the point I don't really want to acquire many more games. Now I am just trying to grab some physical copies of 3ds/Switch games that will be harder to come by down the line for a reasonable price (most are bad as it is now). Other than that, just the odd new game here and there that I really want (Zelda, FF16, etc.), franchises I love or want to play. Plus so many games hit the services (PS+, Gamepass, Humble Bundle) or end up being freebies on stuff like EGS/Prime Gaming/etc. that me buying them ends up being a waste of money by the time I get to them in my backlog. I sold off a bunch of stuff back in the early 2010's, regretted it, and ended up repurchasing a lot, often at higher prices and/or worse condition than my originals. So will wait before I sell anything. Luckily most games on PS or Xbox stay pretty cheap, so can always purchase down the road if I want to play it and its not on service.
Most people, who have collections this size, are shelf collectors pretty much by default. What person can play 1000s of games?
A collector isn’t meant to play games just like a librarian or archivist aren’t meant to read all the books.
ah these nostalgia stories are great, brought back a bunch of my own memories. glad youre doing what makes you happy and finding some memories along the way
I honestly thought you'd keep your 32X collection. I remember how proud you were that you completed it.
I'm a strong supporter of culling a collection... keeps the library fresh AND lets someone else enjoy something that would otherwise just collect dust. Hopefully we'll get to see some of it on Whatnot!
Glad you’re doing well, Bro. At some point I sold it all too and I’m slowing just buying what really matters.
It's great to have collection. I sold mine to. Any game I'm never going to play I sold.
@@nanoskee8270 what’s funny is when you see one of your prized games and knowing you had an original and it was flawless…that’s. When I regret. Prefect example is one he kept: Zelda: Ocarina CE. I had it…sold it…regret it. But at the time the money was needed. It’s okay.
Tbh I've been thinking the same. My collection is nowhere near the size of rgts but it is worth about 3k. I was wanting to collect but then I realize that I barely play a couple hours a week and I game more on my switch than anything else.
And then even if I do build it over the years. Would I even sell it or would I have anyone to pass it on to carry the tradition that actually cares??
@@israelruiz8706 I hear you. When I was selling my valuables I think I maybe have totaled $3k, but maybe only about $1 was old games and consoles.
It’s say don’t make any impulsive decisions. I’m sure you will think it all through and come up with the best solution.
I’ve really enjoyed this video! Hearing people’s nostalgic gaming stories is always a great time!
Great video man. Reminds me of all those games I played growing up that have a special place in my heart that a lot of people might not like. Rolling Thunder & start tropics being prime examples
I always relate more to collectors who keep things they've actually played or had some experience with. Whenever I run into folks at retro stores, I end up staying longer just to hear their stories of getting retro games for Christmas, last minute gifts from family who found the money to spare, to moments on roadtrips playing on their handheld consoles.
You'll always find that buying the things you really care about always end up worth the money more than just having a collection for the sake of it. Great video man.
I really enjoyed the video. Brings back all of my videogame memories. I sold off my massive collection myself back in 2016. I also did the same as you and kept some key games and systems.
Each of these stories genuinely made me smile and some even had me crying laughing (the cat batteries story was hilarious lol). It was awesome to hear you talk about memories that bring you joy. Thanks for sharing them with us.
I really enjoyed this video it made me reflect on my history with gaming as well as enjoy hearing you tell stories of why certain games and periods in gaming that were important to you.
If there's one thing I've learned with having a big game collection, or rather a hefty shelf size, is often times it becomes overwhelming in a sense. There were points in time I was buying games in genres I had no interest in, or jumping into buying whole series just based on one game I liked from said series. Since then I like to think I've mellowed out a little, I've been pruning the collection bit by bit here and there, and keeping my super essentials that I love to replay or actually had fun with. If you're someone who has to have every game or a complete library, I get it and whole heartedly respect the hustle, but it's not for me. I always tell people who are just getting into the classic/retro collector scene if you're gonna do this I'd pick one, maybe two systems that interest immensely and start collecting there, or just picking out titles that you know you'll have fun playing that fully gauge your interest. Don't buy a hot ticket title just cause of rarity or think it's an investment. Buy games that you know you'll love to play and even replay over and over.
My comment is long AF so I'll leave a tl:Dr. I respect the folks out there with the massive Vidya libraries and more power to you, but as I've gotten older and priorities have shifted, I've realized the scene is definitely a young man's venture. All collections are good, it's what it means to the collector that really matters.
I love hearing your stories! Kaybee Toys! Lets go! I love hearing stories from others about their gaming collections and the games they love. The games of our childhood always remain golden. 💜 I only collect games that I have fond memories for as well. I used to have a lot more but ended up selling off the ones that I didn’t really have a bond with. I remember playing Sonic Spinball for how many hours. Glad to see it represented in your collection. I don’t think It ever got enough love.
I had sonic spinball, very underrated
Im 49 and had forgotten about KB Toy store. Man the feels. I loved that store was my favorite gaming store back in the day. It was like a seedier/chaotic Toys R Us. Kids today missing out man. Cheers RGT! thanks for this.
I'm currently in the middle of a purge myself! Wanting to get rid of most the shelf crap and get a few titles I've been really wanting.
A real genuine collector video! Nothing about values of the games or what not. I wish more rétro UA-camrs were like you. Great video!
I know one! It's a friend that started a retro channel: RETRO POCHE it's in french. It's a work in progress, but it's original and he's a passionate player gamer that genuinely love retro game since always. He do not go by the trends. He takes special request 🙂
Actually enjoyed the longer video and hearing why exactly you kept certain stuff. I'm in the boat right now where Im picking and choosing what to sell and keep so I can get a wad of cash/trade in credit and get the games I"m missing that I have fond memories of.
Excellent video. Just fun to listen to. Less grievance than usual. Love the detailed stories. A lot of heart
Final RGT Evolution: bring back the OG "HEY RGT 85" intro.
Great video. Loved the stories and memories. Great seeing your excitement and reactions as telling them all as well. Also, thanks for the video on the collectors edition goosebumps tins I immediately went onto Amazon and bought them after watching your video.😊
40K! that’s a come up and congrats on the sale. I appreciate the stories for which items you keep’d for your collection.
That is not a lot of money lol. Like at all
@@pr6046 for video games? I’d say it’s a nice chunk.
@@pr6046 you gotta be trolling. You can’t be serious? 😂
@@pr6046 For a video game collection is not bad. Is not big money, it won't change your life but my collection (I'm from 84') would probably be 10k max.
@@Herr.Mitternacht I agree with this
These are great stories from your past. Thanks for sharing them. I still have my Playstation one game Resident Evil 3. I can still remember when my mom and dad purchased it for me. That was the only video game they purchased me. I was shocked when I unwrapped it.
Good times, good memories.
Great upload , loved seeing what you kept and why.
You have been a massive inspiration to me jumping into content creation these past yrs 👌👌
Really enjoyed hearing about your nostalgia run. Brought up a lot of special game memories for myself. Makes me want to build a game wall for myself. I need something to break up my absurd amount of action figures displayed.
A shelf collector is what I had become too, I sold 90% of my video games and kept very few games and consoles that I’m ok with selling someday for profit. Cool to see you kept metal gear twin snakes too ! 🙏
Really enjoyed this video! It was interesting to see what you decided to keep and the backstory why!
the pure joy just radiating from you talking about the games you love is so nice to see 🥹 video games really are such a huge part of peoples lives. i recently started collecting after my dad passed away, i spotted a mega drive in store & all the memories just flooded back & was kind of a way to connect with him again ♥️ i love the nostalgia ✨
Nobody asked for the low key flex my guy 😂
This video was dope, loved the stories. Your collection is still dope RGT!😊
I really love seeing how you've progressed through the years. I can relate a lot with your younger years.
I learned that RGT85 is absolutely not OCD, today. All those games not in alphabetical or any other kind of order, for that matter, is really messing up mine 😅. It's cool seeing what you decided to keep. Over the last few years, I went through the process of selling off almost all of my retro collection in favor of emulation, too. I kept only what had significant meaning to me. Your story was very relatable. Keep up the great work, man!
This is what it's all about bro. I'm at this point almost with a range of things. Games movies records action figures and collectibles in general. The memories and the fun with friends and family are what's actually valuable. A lot can be digital and own your favorites physically. Good video dude👊😎
Kay Bee Toys was such a cool toy store.
I remember staying up with my brother for 11 hours straight playing through NGS 1 from 3pm till 2am. He wasn't into videogames by that time in his life but he enjoyed watching the story.
RGT really awesome video, I loved hearing the stories for each game😊
Shout out to my homie RGT, I had a dark purple 1993 Ford Explorer XLT in high school. Great video, one of the best tours you ever made.
OMG 😂 Milton must have loved watching you geek out over those games!! Thank you so much for sharing that!!!
Keep it up RGT! Love your content, always informative and professional! I had heart surgery as a 5 year old kid, and while in recovery I needed I needed a hobby I could enjoy while resting so my parents got me an SNES and the rest is history.
I learned the same thing. I was chasing old memories of playing games. Move forward and make new memories.
I stuck around for the whole video and it was lovely :) the MGS2 story was touching and I loved the boxing one with your grandad ☺️
I love videos like this. Listening to your stories took me back to my childhood and pre teen age. I also grew up with K • Bee toys and other stores where my mom bought games for me and later Electronic boutique and Toy R Us.
Thanks for doing this video. "What did you keep" was the first thing I thought of. I appreciate the stories.
Congrats and bravo to you, hope the ones you kept work flawlessly and may you enjoy them. Especially the capital gains from those sales.
I’ve been watching you for a while bro, and this is one of my favorite videos that you’ve ever done, because I like you hold a lot of these games in my heart, and in my memories, and I associate them with a certain time in my life!
Good for you, I think you made a great decision, just getting back into gaming and feel overwhelmed, you show a healthy attitude towards gaming-perspective!
Watched the entire vid, crazy how I know you're around my age cause of your views on mario 64. I remember thinking that was the peak of games and it will never get better, lol. This video just made you super relatable to me for some reason. Keep up the good work man!
I also did a collection minimization lately... I've always had 1 shelf that I stare at on a regular basis, like a greatest hits of my collection and everything else eventually goes into storage for safe keeping... I've been selling a lot of that storage because I'm only getting older and why focus on things you don't love!
I’ve been subscribed for a while, but first time commenting. Really loved this video and getting to hear all these backstories for the first time. Love what you do, keep it up 👏
Mike Tyson was removed from Punch-Out because his contract expired, not because of legal issues.
My favorite RGT video. Thanks for sharing man!
Awesome Video man!! I'm actually debating on selling my gaming collection off myself. In the world of emulation, I just don't know if i need physical media anymore. Of course with the exception of a few nostalgic items.
I legit thought he was going to say he's not a Nintendo UA-camr in this video. Relieved. Damn Nintendo UA-camr.
I still go back to this video, as a great reminder to curate my retro game collection and keep what I truly love to play and the nostalgic meaning behind each of those kept games.
I’m glad you kept what’s important to you. It’s good to see all you have enjoyed!! 😊
Glad it made you more happier each day knowing what you given up and only kept the important ones. Power you brother ✊
Great video dude! I mostly had Nintendo stuff but whether it was a friend or my brother I was always intrigued by the Sega stuff. I'm probably pretty close in and to you too so much of the stuff you talked about reminded of was similar of my youth. I even had the uncle who always had all the game systems and games first. Then just kinda bittersweet thinking of all the people who are no longer with us or not in contact with but experienced and was impacted by our shared love for video games . My mother passed away and I have my virtual boy that she should actually get on and take turns playing with me and I remember thinking how cool that was. Well thanks for showing and sharing your collection and stories.
Nice Emmure shirt in the flash back And love the stories, it made me think about similar stories in my life with games
With ya, RGT. Had a PS2 in my car mounted in the glovebox with one of those retractable, motorized Alpine screens in the dash. Loads of Vice City and hotboxing swisher sweets.
man, one of the biggest games in the world to me is panzer dragoon saga. my brother and i had put a preorder on it, but it was back when there were only supposed to be something like 5,000 copies coming to the entire US, and the preorder wasn't guaranteed. i've never been so excited as when my brother walked into our game room with a box from the mail, expecting some other game he had ordered, and out came PDS. i have a ton of nostalgia for that game.
Hats off @BRETTNLL nice editing and RGT 85. Thanks for sharing!
😊
You are awesome for showing what you still have. Makes me glad I'm not alone 😊
been watching you since 2016 and never knew your road to sobriety was the same as mine. When I was 26 and went to detox for 12th time since bei g an addict starting at 16, I had to actually get sober this time after almost really dying in ICU and I thought hard how I could stop and thinking back to my obsession of video games from a toddler to adolescence is what I chose to get into and is what I'm still occupied with now over 9 years later and am so thankful I chose to seriously get back deep into gaming, was always gaming but severely depleted for about 10 years where drugs and alcohol took hold. Awesome e video man and one of my favorites since prob the enemy zero vid lol
Thanks for sharing your stories man!
ba baaase no one can stop this.
honestly I also have a huge attachment to this game. music was badass. game play was so fun.
the intro sounds. along with killer instinct. just remind me of Christmas time and put me in the best mood
Thanks for sharing, probably one of my favorite vids you’ve done!
Rad stuff, RGT. The room is looking nice and you seem happier.
cool video RTG and you right about it being simple decision sometimes people read too much into it. You have a passion for the hobby for long time, you enjoyed the time and effort you went thru to buy all that collection and you left with the memories and money hahaha as you get older some things stay with you, the other things you don't even hesitate to part ways with. I'm happy you doing well health wise and curious what you going to do with all that extra space in that room. have blessed day
I grew up with very little games, rented a lot or played a lot at friends houses. Now that i can afford them ive lil by lil started to get consoles and getting the games that meant something to me or that i always wanted to play. Now im far from a "gamer" i def havent beaten many games if any at all (dnt judge me ) but i do enjoy playing, collecting, and displaying them. So my sons both have oleds, xbox s, and ps5"s just cuz i know what it is to not have a console or an out dated one. They started on ds, then switch lite, now they have the new and online. I try to get down but i get side tracked (adult stuff ) but biggest highlight i have is beating the punisher game on the arcade 1 up with my younger son (4 ) at the time. that was pretty sweet. Keep up the great work, you inspire me to wanna have a nice collection of throw backs.
I think you have the right idea. I'm not really a collector but even on my emulators I keep my libraries cut down to what has some meaning to me or what I'm interested in playing that I haven't yet.
Really enjoyed hearing your stories RGT I’m in the same boat as you I just purchase and keep those games that are close to my heart. Sold off the rest
I loved the parts about KB toys. I remember that place when I was a kid, I would get games there, toysrus, and games from blockbuster a lot too. I only started collecting 2 years ago but I now have about 100 blockbuster pieces. It's fun to find stuff that hits you in the feels.
as somebody who sold a part of his collection in the past, i can only tell you something, YOU WILL REGRET
RGT, you are a legend, never apologise that your videos are too long, if anything that are not long enough 😂
Keep doing what you’re doing, you’re one of the most real UA-camrs out there,
Respect from England 👊
You a real one rtg lmao hotboxing with street hoops😂 you just earned a subscriber.
23:30 “Do they have Duracell? No. Do they have Energizer? No. What do they have? Eveready!” I laughed my butt off when I heard that because I understand the pain! Stupid cat!! 🤣🤣🤣
I love the whole video, by the way! It’s great to hear your stories of the games you kept in your collection.
love hearing your childhood stories! made me feel happy
Loved this video man! A nostalgic treat! 🍻
Love the long videos something to listen to while I work a 12hr shift
The only Nintendo UA-camr I watch 😂🤙🏽 rad collection. Stoked you made more room for your Nintendo UA-camr future brother!!
“I wont talk about it”
*Literally one second later goes on to fully explain it*
Are you like… ok?
Cool hearing the personal connection to your collection, good vid!
Yo, the IRS gonna watch this ish man, you wildin!
Great video man love to hear you had family that were gamers as well ! 😎
Nice vid, man . Loved the stories. 😃👍
I love this kind of content because it reminds me of my stories growing up, more more more!
Great picks, Grandia 2 is the best for dreamcast. That video game made me cry, probably in my top 10 favorite.
Very respectable decision. This is why I'm trying to get out of the collecting game now while I'm ahead. I got carried away the past few years, but I don't want it to consume my life.
Thank you showing us you're collection!! It was awesome
Love the stories! Good video
Thanks for the tour and stories Rgt85. I was curious if you have decided to Keep all your Arcade1up machines? I know they take up space and can be emulated although that arcade machine experience is unique.
Can we get a video highlighting those Batman and tmnt figures 👀 love seeing everything you collect. I’m sure a lot of us here are collectors of many things not just games. Keep up the good work man!
I appreciate you talking about not dying. My friends have pasted and I know my game that saved my life.
Came for the games, stayed for the stories. Thanks for sharing bro
Great videos and good stories my dude!
Lol the LoZ gold edition story was the best nostalgia story Iv heard in a minute. I always look back at the ones I had myself. As the greatest game memories ever.😂😂😂😂
I'm glad that I've been watching your channel long enough that I can remember the Wayne story from before😂
RGT your input on games are awesome bro. I watch whatever video you put up because you’re honest. Keep up the good work bro even if you are a “Nintendo Gamer” lol.
I don't care if Nintendo hates you. You'll always be my favorite Nintendo UA-camr
Cool video dude! I see why you kept what you kept. If I did that with my collection, just keep stuff that has true meaning to me, I'd probably have about 2-3 games left. 😢
That was great man. So cool to hear your video game history. 👍
