Family trying to save potty-trained pet bobcat's life

- Kentucky Fish & Wildlife seized a Grant County family's pet bobcat in February. The family, and a district judge, are trying to ensure the bobcat finds a home and will not be euthanized.
How dare they even consider murdering that poor bobcat. How dare they.
Exactly !
I had a cat whose only "crime" was being born on my back porch.
If NY state had figured out what she was they would have confiscated my cat, euthanized her, then charged me with a crime of having an "illegal F1 feral" be born on my porch.
She was the most affectionate mewling puking fluffball I ever had the honor of living with, even if she could be a bit of a "pet me now" pest.
Governments are often good at unjustly killing.
The bobcat can be sent to a sanctuary. It can never be released in the wild, since it was raised by humans and did not learn hunting skills from its mother. But there are sanctuaries which give them a home in a large, natural setting for life.
@@4Nanook I would much rather the ignorance of folks in this comment section be put down. But if you think murdering humans is a solution for anything...God help you.
Euthenized if not placed in an appropriate home? He was in an appropriate home. What the hell. They did everything to assure the safety for the public, and the did everything to assure the safety and wellbeing for their cat. That is not fair. I say boo to the neighbor that stuck their nose into other people business. This may cost the life of a beautiful, happy, and loving cat. Boo to you neighbor!
Weird how actual experts say the opposite but okay
There are many things you can do to harass a neighbor like that, and they are all legal too. 😉
@@hezekiahramirez6965but it's already done...he is already domesticated...charge them a fine...let them keep the cat. Wtf
@@hezekiahramirez6965 Sometimes "experts" are wrong. This vet does not account for the fact that this cat was hand raised and has been domesticated. What is right action now has to be different than had this cat been raised in the wild or to be wild.
Nice appeal to authority, trust the expert!!! Ouuuhhhh.
Please, if these people can't keep him, and can't move to a state that allows bobcats to be kept, please, PLEASE send him to a sanctuary. Killing this PET in NOT the answer.
" We want what is best for the cat " so we will put him down if we cannot find a proper environment for him. Stupid over reaching government. Cat looks healthy and happy, that seems to be a good home.
@@barbaramarrs5113 - killing this cat is not in his best interest. His people should know better, right?
They can, if they really wanted to, find him a sanctuary that will take good care of him.
Saying they'd rather see him dead makes me wonder if they aren't the best possible home for him.
@P PA1 Yes they could, but they tend to act self righteous about owning bobcats and will bloviate a bit about it.
He is too domesticated at this point. Just let them have him for goodness sake. What's the harm now.
thats the problem with law, they cannot be changed
They adapt fine back in the wild. It's a myth that they get confused when they're introduced back into their natural habitat.

@@sleverlight That's EXACTY what I want to know as well... "He is too domesticated at this point." ...what studies or experience is @colleensporter basing this on? Did she even site ANYTHING???
And then he might get run over by a car or shot by a hunter. It’s a domesticated, happy pet at this point. Let them keep him.
He can't fend for himself after being raised in a human home.
He could do for himself but he wouldn't be happy now. He has a pack and it would be wrong to separate him from his pack. He would seek out other people and then someone may harm him or kill him. The only safe place for h now is where he is.
The point is. He loved them and they raised him from a kitten. And he didn't need to fend for himself.
They have no problem adapting to the wild. Even cats, dogs, birds end up doing fine if they lose their homes and end up living in the 'wild'.
@@mts7274 Not from what I have seen. Bobcat mothers teach their offspring various lessons about being a bobcat, just as other species' mothers teach their offspring.
That is true. Shame on those people for making him a "pet".

When laws are stupid, it's time to change the laws. If legislatures won't change the stupid laws, it's time to change the legislatures. This cat is as domesticated as any, exotic though it is. Gotta love how the state thinks they’re doing the ‘right thing’ by taking the bobcat from his family
I wonder who told on them, and why. They said they had him for at least 2 years,
someone was upset about something. Didn't they also say that the cat never left the house?
So it was someone who heard that they had a bobcat, or someone who was invited into their
home.
One word, “Karen”
Media will tell you anything they want. A neighbor probably did not tell on the family. The state was probably watching the family social media, and because that's illegal to watch, they used the neighbor excuse. BUT, if a neighbor did tell on the Bobcat family, shame on them.. All round terrible.
Yeah kinda like how CPS does it!
Poor baby .That is cruel for both .

Considering putting her in jail for this is absurd.
Stop interfering in people's lives. They're not hurting anybody.
I did not learn the part of pet history when all pets started out domesticated. As for this bobcat, he was created from domesticated bobcats. Since he's legal in the state he came from, most likely a long line of domestication, if he's from a breeder. Therefore they can argue the bobcat is as wild as a cat bred from a wild cat bloodline. The bobcat is domesticated.
I like your reasoning. Haha.
You can maybe get a class 2 wildlife listens and the specs for the outdoor cage would have to be followed.

I rescued a bobcat kitten once. I was 15 and I found him all alone, his mother had been killed by a coyote and I felt obligated to take him in. My dad was worried initially but we started feeding him and just sort of learned along the way. My one female cat had been fixed but she raised a litter of kittens once and decided to raise him too. I called him Rob, we learned his feeding requirements and he was never hungry. My female cat Maz raised him right. Vet never complained about him and he was my constant companion till about 6 years ago. Rob was slowing down and getting old, he knew it and so did I. I had taken to giving him stuff for his joints and stuff for his aches and pains. The night he died we were discussing what to do when he just walked into the room curled up beside me and just slowly and quietly passed on. He saved us the pain of putting him down by doing it himself after nearly 20 years as a loved pet. Rob passed his lessons on how to cat to a pair of male kittens I adopted when he was 13 or 14. I still walk the woods hoping to find another one like my pal Rob Zombie the bobcat.
I hope one doesn't need you but if it does that you two find each other :)
What a wonderful memory to share with us

A bobcat isn't a big deal, but they shouldn't have moved into a state with a Bobcat if it wasn't legal, I suppose. Why did the neighbor have to complain?
Because the neighbor doesn't acknowledge private property like all communists
Some folk are going to be jerks.
@@susanfarley1332 Neighbors should mind their own business. A house bobcat is tame enough. Maybe the family lived in Kentucky and just legally bought him from Arkansas and thought no problem. Bobcats and Lynxes are not that far off from our regular cats in terms of size and behavior. A sweet couple on UA-cam have two wonderful bobcats.
@@QUINTUSMAXIMUS I used to have a cat that looked a lot like a bobcat. Little stubby tail , and the coloring was close. In the winter when she got her winter coat she had the cheek fur like a bobcat. And not a bobcat characteristic, she had polydactylism (extra toes). Beautiful sweet cat. She disappeared for a year and reappeared. She must have had kittens in that year and a dog must have gotten them because when she came back, she didn't like dogs near her kittens. I lost her when she snuck out when she was due to have kittens. Could not find her at all. Three weeks later my neighbor called to tell me she attacked their dog. He told me her kittens were playing on the lumber in their back yard and his daughter set their dog on them. Mama cat went after the dog and the lady got bit when she tried to stop them from fighting. Even though my cat was vaccinated the dog catcher took her and she was put down. At least I got the kittens so they could be bottle fed. They were too young to lose their mom. Had to go to court about it. Dog catcher said I violated the leash law. The judge got mad at him because he was stupid and thought leash law applied to cats. Dropped the case.
I knew a lady that had a bobcat regular cat hybrid. He was the result of a bobcat mating with her cat. He was big with a stubby tail and he was quite the Romeo with the local female cats. Lots of stubby tailed kittens. He ended up saving the old lady's life when a man tried to invade her home. He broke out the window in her door and was reaching for the lock when the cat shredded his arm. Later he came back when she wasn't home and broke a window and threw in poisoned meat. Poor cat. PS. Almost forgot. The first time the guy tried breaking in, he dropped the Bowie knife he was carrying.

There are so many strange inhumane laws in US. When I was in Florida, I found a baby opossum in a dead mother body. I started nursing him, but I have found in the law of Florida, people cannot keep opossum as a pet, but people can kill opossum legally. What a inhumane law! Unfortunately, the baby opossum could not survive, but I had a dream to live with him.
Sadly, opossums do not have a very long life span, even if they are healthy. :(
