I decided to do a project with one of these Chevys, they look durable and simplistic. I want to add an air ride a Detroit 8v92, a scratch built crew cab, also not to mention modern brakes etc. My budget should be 50k and majority of the work will be done myself. thanks for the video!

Brad Davis They are pretty solid trucks. I have been trying to convince my cousin to build a camper onto the back of it. I thinks it would be a solid overlander.

@@WesleyGarrardAmbitionInEconomy Ride quality is the definition of 'rides like a truck'! I put my c50 cab on a dodge motorhome chassis. 8 lug wheels IFS, and made is SWR. You just can't keep the split rims (widow makers) and expect to actually use the truck. 20in tires are almost impossible to get, and then nobody will install them. Don't hate on me...just telling it like it is.

Nice. I just picked up a '66. Someone had done quite a bit of work on the engine. I assume they rebuilt it because everything was so clean. They also installed a hei distributor (I didnt even know what that was ). They did however let it sit too many years and the gas killed the carb.
Im not an auto mechanic but I was able to rebuild the carb and now I can just reach in, turn the key and it starts and idles instantly. No insurance yet and I live in the city so Im not taking it too far.

Some of those older Chevrolet’s have 6 cylinder engines. Would love to have one someday.

I get more excited about a well done performance GM inline 6 than I do any V8. Something about triple side draft webers just does it for me. There is a guy who build a real quick Z/28 Camaro with a 292. That engine looks and sounds amazing.

Wet sand it and shoot a clear sealer to preserve the integrity of the patina.Theres a club called Wheels of Time for older trucks check them out. LMC has restoration parts for the cab same year pickup minus the front clip.

Those trucks are most reliable ,an Hei distributor,a newer version twin jet two barrel for 400 SBC ,wakes them up ,a number matching 4 Barrel in take and a 600 cfm Holley does wonders too...

We were thinking of doing the HEI swap. But it was real cheap to refresh the points system. They run well enough.

Did you ever fix the brakes? Did you do a video? I am looking at a 69 that needs "brake work". Not the deal you got, but not bad either

@@artamus73 , if you haven't found your brake parts yet, try Rock Auto. They have a a pretty decent selection of parts for these medium duty trucks. I just recently got a 1962 Chevy C60 dump truck and was really surprised by what is available.

I have a 68 C40 same issue with me. Mine are 10 lug on 8.75 and 6.25 hubcentric. FYI I have searched from coast to coast and that pattern is not made not available. Best option is to change rear end and front OR have adapters made. It's roughly the SAME cost to do either. With the swap you get the added advantage of easier to find brake components. It took me 6 months and 2 tries to get the right wheel cylinders. Now I'm in search of a master cylinder. What is your brake set up. Air or juice?

    • @philyarnell8386

@@jeffp7776 Yeah no wheels here either. Mine is Brake juice. Front work great, have a leaky line in back so just clamped off. Prolly gonna make some adaptor plates to convert to a different wheel. I have to rely on my buds as this is not my wheel house. Were also looking at complete axel swaps but then the dilemma of rear end gears v transmission and no more two speed rear end.
