- In this classic motorcycle workshop video log we give you an update on the projects we've got on the go in the workshop. At the end of the video we'll show you Graeme's freshly recommissioned 1973 Norton Commando 850 Mk2 Roadster (828cc). Graeme bought this bike as a non-runner and took it to Dave to get recommissioned and back on the road.

Awesome result on Graham’s 850 Commando, he looked pleased. Great to hear and see all the jobs being attended to. Thank you Dave, you showed us the valve guides at the exact moment I said to myself “I wonder what they look like”😁👌👏👍
Beautiful work as usual. I agree ref the worn parts, always gives a customer reassurance that you did what you invoiced for. I could never get my 71 commando to idle that slowly 👍

Like that Triton. The BSA'S are also nice and vastly underrated by some motorcyclists
My mates and I had Commandos, Bonnie's both pre unit and unit and we grew up with all the associated gremlins. I bought a BSA iron head golden flash with swing arm . It taught me all about Joe Lucas headlight switch with its dodgy roller connections and of course K2F magneto and timing was done with a pencil in the bore and It would not run right if it was not right. Too far advanced with 9 to 1 pistons split the soles of my doc Marten boots. I should've kept it lower compression. They are great bikes and the frames were so well designed and braised. SRM conversion from timing side bush to bearing with end feed oilfeed made it more reliable especially if it was tuned and the later crank with bigger diameter big ends was worth it and thick flange barrels however the single carb iron head with Amal monoblock carb was really good day to day even in traffic but clutch got hot but Southall to mitcham and back every day was a lot in heavy rush hour traffic. I should've used an old Honda cd175.
Luv the first story about refurbishing his Dad’s bike. It’s a shame I see so many classics auctioned off by uninterested widows.

'wire brush, spray in situ' !, sounds like bodging up to sell. surprised Dave would endorse that.
Plenty of blue smoke coming out of the timing side exhaust pipe - obviously not good. Any engine that idles from cold means the air fuel mixture when warm is going to be fuel rich meaning soot build up in the cylinder head - obviously also not good. An easy check is too stick your finger or have a look at the end of the silencer on the inside. Black and sooty and also oily is not good. You'd have thought the 'mechanic' would know this.
