Always great information Eric. Your the best teacher on you tube hands down. Stay safe!
Thanks, John! Appreciate the kind words and support!
Eric, just an excellent, simple to understand, video. Immense help in solving the bent vs. straight arm at impact. Love all your other videos also. Many thanks !
Appreciate it!
Great analysis, explanation, checkpoints, and simplified teaching. Thanks for sharing.
Appreciate it :)
Dear Eric,
very great, as always.
Thank you very much!
Our pleasure, Erich! Thank you!
Another super video. Thanks Eric 👍🍻
Thanks, Matt!
Excellent Eric! Thank you!
Thanks, Steve!
This is the most useful golf video I've seen in a very long time, i try and keep the stone skim visual in my head to ensure i also keep the lower and upper body moving as a consolidated piece, sometimes its easy to forget what the legs are doing when you start thinking about arms.
Appreciate it, David! Hope it serves you well!
You are an excellent teacher. Thank you.

Love it. Very helpful. Could you do a video showing from the players eye view what address looks like for all clubs. Thanks Eric
Thanks, Fusi! Not sure if we will be able to do that but we will see!
Awesome, Eric!
Appreciate it!
Good stuff EC as always, thanks. Another thought that I got from Ballard many years ago: pressure the clubhead against the shaft from the top of the swing all the way to the finish. In a sense, it forces you to FEEL as if you are throwing the clubhead away by trying to put bend into the shaft, yet that produces the great lag that I have found. Another visual is to take the pin out of a hole on the course, move in a circle holding the pin horizontally and try to make the flag at the end go as fast as possible.
I like that one! Whats new is old it always seems :)
Really great drill and check points 💪
Appreciate it!
This guy always concept so much better then most on UA-cam.
Thank you Joel!
I never realised the need to hold the arm bend for longer before the throw! Lots of videos about throwing the club but Eric gives a really good explanation about when to start the throw 👍🏼 great coaching 😁
Appreciate it :)
Yes, I have been doing that sometime ago ever since I watched Steve Pratt & David Duval doing that. I experienced substantial increase in clubhead speed.
Nice!! Thanks for watching Philip!
What a great observation. Never really paid attention to my right arm, was always focused on keeping my left arm straight. Great video!
Appreciate it!
I like this drill. Sometimes I can get too technical and sometimes its more about finding a natural motion that you have within you but you loose it thinking about hitting different positions.
Thanks, Mange!
This is a gem from 3yrs ago I reckon. My feel which has really helped is to feel the arms shoulders and body are all in the same position until after impact. All I am doing is rotating, relationship of everythign stays the same and doesn't move...i.e the actual swing only feels like it is happening on the downswing very late after turning through. Different from trying to keep the wrists bent for a late release which never worked for me (and many others)
Thanks John!
Great lesson 👌😀
Thanks, Rich!
This really helps keep the left arm relaxed.
Excellent!
Great explanation. The best players maintain the right wrist angle and while the corkscrew is unwinding the lever isn't being unhinged until the last second. They have to be turning / rotating while actively straightening the right arm, like snapping a towel, THEN the right hand not the hands with a passive arm. So it's a chain reaction. What's tricky with pictures is you can't see the muscle contraction order. It's the "hit" instinct too, ....you know you have this club head out there and it's what hits the ball so the overwhelming tendency is to "unleash the power" but in most people that's too soon and out of sequence. Doing this one part of the swing requires understanding of leverage and the whole cracking the whip so to speak with the right arm. For some reason that's not an intuitive move.
For sure
This video is really helpful. I wish Eric, Mike M, Milo, or any of the Brit instructors were somewhere near me. The lessons from the local pros around me really suck because they don’t seem to want to explain things and just give drills. I’m all for drills and practice but they’re discouraging when they don’t work.
Anyway, I’ve got the wide part down pat, but I didn’t really get the fold part. This resulted in very little depth, and me being very disconnected at the top of backswing. So I’d get stuck, etc., etc…
Thanks for sharing (and sorry for the rant)!
Thanks so much for watching Angelo!
Good vid Eric.
I'd add that if you are left handed and play right (there's quite a few of us), practice throwing a side arm pitch motion. Don't go crazy, just easy toss as you just trying to get the positions and feel down. Helped me a bunch when I figured this out.
Thanks, Matt!
I like it!

Hi Eric...thanks for breaking down the swing so clearly...as you mentioned different golfers would need a different feel to achieve the same " right hand bend in downswing to straightening at the 45, would it be correct if i went with the feeling of swinging with my left arm all the way through in my downswing?
hey Ishan!

Thank you, Tom!
Eric, at the beginning of the video you demonstrate the ‘throw’ of the club. I have always attributed speed of the throw in correlation with the shoulder turn. I did not initially see or hear any mention of the shoulder turn as a contributing factor for club head speed; am I missing something or does shoulder turn influence club head speed? Your presentations and clarity have been very beneficial to the development of my golf swing.
Hey Brian!
Shoulder turn for sure influences speed.

Eric, another great video and advice. You mentioned Steve Pratt, who advocates throwing from the top, as early as possible, whilst you advise not to throw too early. Most good players seem to turn on the power from club parallel, not before, as you do. Although, when I watch Steve he does not appear to throw from the top, he still has lag at club parallel, much like Kyle Berkshire, so maybe he suffers from feel versus real. Should we follow your advice, or Steve’s?
Thanks for the kind words!
I would suggest trying all the feels.....recording yourself from face on and hitting the check points I showed.
Whatever you need to FEEL to get there would be the correct feel for you (at that given moment)
Great stuff Erik, thanks !
Thanks, Mauri!

@@CogornoGolf 2 buckets later. I made some major improvement. Thank you so much Eric. More practice
Great video Eric thanks very much. IS this approach also applicable in Iron swing?
From my experience I would say DEFINITELY
If I may add one thing I’d say keep the lightest possible grip pressure and you’ll really feel that whip
Hey Alan! Yep!
Great video! If my tendency is to throw early from the top, can I increase my body movements to release past impact? Also, should you pull with your lead arm as you're throwing your trail arm?
Thanks!
1. "If my tendency is to throw early from the top, can I increase my body movements to release past impact?"
-You COULD. It depends on WHY you throw early.
2. "Also, should you pull with your lead arm as you're throwing your trail arm?"
-Unfortunately that is not a YES/NO...black and white for everyone...because we are talking FEELS here.
Here is more on pulling the left arm: ua-cam.com/video/MVG2EAlSjSU/v-deo.html

@@CogornoGolf awesome, thx! Keep 'em coming! Your videos are super helpful!
Reviewing this video it appears the throw is at a point of being in front of the body as the body turns thru the hitting zone. The more turn after the ball strike, the later the arms are thrown. Also, the bending of the right arm is timed with the shoulder turn. The right arm bend is relative to the right shoulder as the right arm approaches the right shoulder. As the distance between the right arm and right shoulder get closer the right arm must bend. Keeping the right arm “straight” as long as possible assists in getting the right shoulder back for a full turn.
Thats all correct!
Pointing out that to make the right hand straight is so key to long and straight drive. It prevent the ball fade too much as well.
Hey Eric, I watched your video about keeping your lead AND trail arms connected to your torso (using a towel or golf glove tucked under to check). I feel like I’m not coming over the top as much with this left arm connected feel. This video has the trail arm DISCONNECTED from the torso through most of the swing. Is the connected thing just a feel to keep the elbow where we want it?
Hey Jeff!
Great questions. There are several milo details involved here.
The "connected" drills and feels are A BIT EXAGGERATED.
The trail arm will have some shoulder flexion (arm lift) during the backswing....the elbow getting farther from ribcage.
Then there is some shoulder extension (arm down) in downswing combined with external rotation of the shoulder and adduction of the arm.....
I think this video will help answer some of your questions:
ua-cam.com/video/CxzVIm8PInE/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/1rXgZHGyFBQ/v-deo.html
People question the throwing the club from the top but by the time you think about creating the width between your elbow and shoulder from the top it will probably show up on camera at left arm parallel in downswing. You have to create that width early because if you try to hold it until left arm parallel it's too late: you don't have the reflexes to change anything at that point.
Thanks for watching, Benjamin!
Hey Eric, great video. I used this "throw" feel with my irons and am compressing the ball really well with it. I have a more pull release with my driver but have been trying this throw release with the driver and am hitting it way farther, but I am struggling with hitting it straight. Any tips on this?
Hey! Thats awesome---progress! For sure.....but could be so many variables I would be guessing too much without seeing your swing. Send vids to www.cogornogolf.com or find good coach to work with in person!
Eric has no idea how to make a bad video. His videos are all great. Just watch them if you don't believe me.
Thanks Bill :)
What do you visualize when to create on the throw? Do you focus on something x feet out and imagine you are hitting that?
Hey Brent!
As I mentioned there is no one answer to that question (which is a good one) as it all depends on where you are coming from.
Record yourself.
Use the checkpoints I gave.
See what YOU need to feel to hit those checkpoints
You should check out/analyze Wilco Nienaber. Longest hitter on the European tour. Effortless power, banging out clubhead speed od 140. He has the hugest width on the backswing I've ever seen.
Great swing he has!
Cant wait for driving ranges to reopen again to try this out, great video cheers
hope it helps, Paul! And hope you're out there soon!
I struggled the last 2 years with terrible drive slices. Tried so many things and could never consistently hit drives. I saw this method in another video recently and it fixed my driver in a single range session. All the compensations I had before were now over drawing with the throw method so I even had to dial back my strong grip a bit.
Excellent!
Great video. But you have to add the hand snap motion when throwing with the right arm
(Steve Pratt, Mike Austin, Mike Dunaway)
Thanks for the feedback!
I would want the club to be fully released just at the ball rather than past it, at least with driver. Not that I'm right, just what I like to feel. I was an avid baseball player before I played a lot of golf and that extension at impact and staying behind the ball always made the most sense to me. Curious what you think?
Great video! Same principle with irons?
Edit: found the answer below in the Q&A :)

Hi is this the same on every club, ? Nice video thanks 😊
Same general idea Marcus but minor details will be different per club
Is this video similar to the video you did with Mike Malaska on the right hand throw?
Some parts of it yea
I wonder when the moment of maximum speed of the driver head is? Is it prior to or at the point where the arms are straight? I think you'd need super slow motion to see that.
Eric went after those last two swings 😂
:)
I’ve been trying to take the arms out swing initiation. I come over the top is there a way to use this method using a body swing?
You would essentially just throw it LATER if you want more body EARLY
ua-cam.com/video/Nwz6Yrr9SrI/v-deo.html
Is this the same principle for all clubs or just the driver. I have an issue of the right arm getting too far behind me in the backswing and low but this may help. ⛳️👍🏻

Average right arm bend for tour player is 76 deg at end of backswing. On the contrary: there is no re-bending of right arm on downswing! The right arm starts un-bending immediately on downswing
Hey Scott! Thanks for the feedback!
I really really really really really like this video. 5/5 reallies.
:) Thank you Steven!
Eric, I use the tour rotation stick as a practice aid, how would you incorporate this throwing action using the aid. It all gets a bit confusing 😕
Hey Eric!
Its all about the timing of the throwing and extending of arm
If you are using that stick I can only assume you normally throw too EARLY......so you want to feel it happen LATER
Thats all
Everyone throws
Its just when

All you have to is feel the hosel come in first to the ground 💯👍👍
If that works for you thats great!
I am so confused about which arm to use? Some people say to use left and guide with right? Or vice versa?
Hey!
The good news---there is no correct answer.
Of course you need to use BOTH.
What you FEEL will vary.
It is not CORRECT nor INCORRECT to feel/think about the right arm
It is not CORRECT nor INCORRECT to feel/think about the left arm
What matters is what they actually do vs what they are supposed to!
@@CogornoGolf Ok. Thanks.
From top down, are you dragging right elbow to the ball which will cause right palm to face skyward?
Hey Stephen!
I linked 5 videos on your other comment for more in depth answers to your question
@@CogornoGolf The linked 5 videos definitely make sense. Thanks for the recommendations.
Ive been working a lot on the throwing, but how about just throw the club down the range...towards the target in a straight line? then take that and let the ball get i the way.. its done wondres for my swing
May be that easy for some....not for others.
Many people currently swing too far outside in or too far inside out
So if you feel right down the line that may not correct the issue
You generally need to exaggerate the opposite of your current swing direction issue
@@CogornoGolf thx for the reply. I was having problems with slicing.. I fund that if I "threw" the club more to the right it solved the slice. I know that if u throw the club, the first time u will most likely send it way left( right handed golfer). Also when u throw something u need a target, and it cant be the ball anymore ( the ground is in the way ). We can all learn to throw the club... I learned fast cause l used to throw things when i was a kid. My mom on they other hand os having some problems... shes been playing golf 15 years, but shes been taught wrong... shes too focused on not missing the ball, doing something wrong... I believe that anyone that can throw the club in a straight line, can play golf.. well thats my 2 cents. Thx for the videos.. stay safe mate

Great segment Eric! 👌🏽 Question: How does centrifugal force apply to the right arm throw? What is the marriage between the throw and the forces?
Hey Carl!
Thats for another video :)
@@CogornoGolf Thanks for the reply Eric. Your instruction methodology and interpretations are always on the money! I look forward to your video on centrifugal force. I think that you can knock this one out of the park 👍🏽
The straightening of the right arm in the downswing can be looked at as either a motion or an action. If a centrifugal reaction straightens it, it is a motion or a passive straightening. If you actively straighten it by muscular force through the right tricep, it can be seen as an action. The first is more of a swinging motion, the second is more of a hitting motion.
@@drewitgolf In your opinion which method is more powerful?
@@chixson4159 both are powerful. It depends on your body type and how much thought you want to put into your motion, as well as what works best for you. Hitters like control and want to be the captain of their own ship, swingers just let it go, but have to manipulate CF effectively. Try both and experiment. That’s the fun part.
Is it better to keep left arm straight with the fold? Due to flexibility...

Yes....you need good turn for all moves!

Steve says to throw from the top right away for everyone. If I understand you correctly you’re saying it depends on how much you bend, I.e.where are you start throwing may be different for different golfers
Hey Bruce! The video never lies :) What we need to FEEL is the key question, and that depends on what the golfer currently is doing.
You can test every feel and video it and actually SEE what creates the correct motions for you based on the checkpoints.

Which driver do you use?
Mizuno!
David Knighton, a near tour quality pro at Southern Woods in Homosassa, Florida is an advocate of hitting with the right arm. David claims to have tried everything. But while David's swing looks very easy he told me personally that he is actually hitting very hard near impact with his right arm. And David can prove it. He can drive the ball about 275 with his right hand only on the club. Absolutely amazing. David once "hit" a long par 5 there with his left broken arm in a cast hanging in a sling on his chest. He missed the putt for eagle. David say's that if standing next to a golf cart on a mock swing, pretend you are going to knock the backrest right off the cart with your right arm as you come into the impact (main seat) area. David came close to making the U.S. Open in a qualifier final at Bay Hill. I followed him around that day for 36 holes.
Sounds like a heck of a player! Right arm feels/throws will certainly work well for some!
@CadPro Nothing weird, he was just my local pro and a hell of a player. I worked out on the range a lot and he was open about helping one without money being an object. You could not fool David in the swing. He had an eye for things. The members took up a collection every year and sent him to "tour school". His main problem was his caddie. He needed a tour caddie rather than his brother-in-law who was too negative. Our bag boy there was "on the bag" when Shaun Micheel won the PGA in 2003. Our owner owned "World Woods too and allowed tour players to practice over at our place. I had lots of top talent exposure just by striking up a conversation with them. They essentially taught me "the modern golf swing" which dramatically improved my game. I never could use David's right hand method. It requires a lot of strength. Davis was a big guy.
Is Justin Thomas big off the tee? I never thought of him as a big hitter
Hey Eric is this the same for irons? I've seen so many videos of people basically holding all the way through impact and it just feels unnatural
