@@remfj40 just takes time to understand the function of the tool. I did have a problem with smaller calipers on the rear due to the tool being a little too wide. It did fit, but I had to use a c-clamp. I have broken majority of my c-clamps. You could find it on eBay for less than the store price.
I bought one from a Cornwell rep two years ago; since then he has left Cornwell to be an independent tool distributor. The tool has locked up on me once in a while. Lang has the same thing, as does Snap-on with Blue-point on the handle. The Lang was $65 on Amazon, the Blue-point was $95, and the Cornwell was $75. All three have “made in the USA” on the handle so I would reckon all three of the same tool from different vendors were Lang. I went with the Cornwell version instead of giving my money to Amazon.
@@donaldhollums3278 I actually figured it out after realizing a little more Clear how this works. It seems it jams anytime you open it or close it to the limit and smidge beyond. You just have to flip the direction switch and press down on the ground and crank on it hard to get it to break free and start operating back the other way properly. Kind of a pain, but now that I know what is happening it’s not so bad.
I have a 4 piston caliper you know the ones that looks like Brembo looking like opposed piston calipers? so I have to get one of those to get it to spread. Got a cheap $20 one from amazon I guess it works, time will tell how long the racheting thing will last.
Bought the exact same tool (PT brand) and had the same issues. Ended up getting the 2nd kit you showed. Misery loves company so I’m glad it wasn’t just me that couldn’t get that stupid tool to work. Complete waste of money.
I have one of these myself, the plates fall off, the thing jams all the time. Mine is hitting the trash! Maybe the Lang tool mentioned is built better somehow.
It works very well for dual piston calipers. I don’t think anyone who actually uses it will have a problem. Imagining a potential problem that could occur when using a tool I guess makes sense if you are trying to make a video about something. The tool set in the red case is for single piston calipers not for dual calipers. I like how this tool performed in compressing a dual piston caliper.
I bought the one from Lang tools a couple years ago it works great... Although I have about half a dozen different options.... you have the parking brake piston tool kit that will usually have 1 or 2 of the pistol grip style and then you have various C clamps and sometimes people will even use channel locks or large locking pliers.... but of them all I grab the Lang set up 1st...
Beware broke this tool immediately taking it out of the package. Dropped on the floor a couple feet, pretty hard due to the weight and now it won’t engage the ratcheting mechanism :(
I got this tool, different brand but same style, I did not like it but I had a break job 2 days ago and piston would not retract, I used this tool and boy made it much easy.
I ordered this tool to see if i like it better than the traditional caliper tool. This thing sucks, like you said, it can be cumbersome to use and not efficient
I have the Matco version which I believe is made by Lang. Works great, much less weird. I have also used the Lsile version, decent, but not as good as the Lang.
The Lang one is a much better tool it has an actual ratcheting mechanism I've been using one for a few years now and it hasn't skipped a beat once I normally at least once a month dunk the head in AFT overnight on Saturday so when I come back to work Monday the ATF had time to creep into all the threads and wash whatever gunk was inside out
I bought one from eBay that has two sets of plates one for single piston calipers and two bigger plates that are magnetic that attach to the smaller plates for two piston calipers.
Just picked one up from Northern Tools to use for swapping out my brake pads. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration, don’t get one. I can honestly say it is the WORST tool I’ve ever used(or tried to use). This is an item they should just discontinue.
Interesting. This could have application in my Handyman, Property Management, and Construction businesses for wedging up heavy doors (etc.) and for spreading other things to the correct tolerance. Sort of a mini-jack. Though, I'd like better quality. The Lang Tool alternative is only about $35 and I hear it works great.
It pisses me off when I buy a product and find out that it won't work as intended in the real world. You can't point to any obvious defect in manufacturing, rather the design is just not very useful. You can easily see that, but you also have to assume that there is going to be the hassle of explaining it all to someone if you want to return it for a refund. Some people really enjoy doing that and making fun of stupid designs and hate getting ripped off, so this one would be a good opportunity.
You called it bro. This tool SUCKS. Whoever designed this POS should be ashamed. It doesn’t work when you need it. $40-$50 in the garbage. I’ve had it with cheap tools, cheap products, etc.
I watched this because I am thinking of tossing mine into the trash bin! Thanks to your video on how to use it, I’m going to try it one more time.
How did you get the other side unstuck???
I was more impressed with the tool you used to open the package
Term might be Jinky. For the money, I think I will stick with a C-Clamp. Thanks for what you do
They improved it
@@JTB128650 Thanks for the update, I will check it out

Find a way to free it up? Mine locked up on me during first use :(
@@ThomasRodriguez Nope, I just don’t use it anymore.

I was wondering if they make them for a motorcycle?
I wish your review included how you got it back together I’m still fuckin with mine

I just tried to pull up instruction video, thing sucks I can't get it work right
Finally got it to work ...everything you say is TRUE 👍

The plates come off bc newer ones have bigger plates for dual piston calipers.
Well I have now learned how to use the Piston compressing ratchet tool to open a hand...

Why didn't you demo it?
I have the Lang version. I have found that it works well. Have used it on the calipers of a Dodge Ram 2500.
The starburst joke was good 😂😂😂😂😂

Yessir the lang tools one works great. Anything from lang has worked well for me
Damn skipped through the whole video and didn’t even show a demo?
Thank you for posting this. Made up my mind and will buy a Lang instead.
That caliper tool you can rent for free is almost what you HAVE to use on some vehicles because the caliper has to be spun while pushed back in.
Tried to use this for the first time. Frustrating tool. Ended up using a c clamp instead.
Total junk!
Lol...These tools work well under load not so much in hand. Plates come off for other sizes and for storage. Great review.
40 dollars I just bought a USA made Lang one for 35. 40 dollars is crazy for a Taiwanese tool like this. Should be 20
I bought one from eBay that has two sets of plates one for single piston calipers and two bigger plates that are magnetic that attach to the smaller plates for two piston calipers.
I really need one of those, I’m just unsure which one to buy 🤔
The lang one is the same as snapon/bluepoint. Mine works fairly well.
