Many years ago, I played a small pub gig in Northampton and one of our songs was Still Got The Blues. During the song, this odd looking woman stood about 2 feet in front of me just watching and swaying with the music. I thought she was nuts! Anyways, after the set, she came over and introduced herself as Gary Moore's sister in law. Her sister was Donna! She told me the story of how she met Gary. She was shacked up with a famous drummer who used to beat her up. Gary told her to move into his flat and have his bed whilst he slept on the sofa. She ended up introducing him to her sister who Gary fell madly in love with. When she ran off with the Gary Holton from Auf Wiedersehen Pet, it broke his heart and he never got over her. She told me Gary would have been proud of my solo during SGTB. I cried that night as Gary was my biggest hero and to have such nice comments from someone who knew him so well was the biggest highlight of my career.

What I cannot get over is that whenever a guitar player shreds, it gets boring very soon and you hit the point of feeling “enough.” Gary is one of those amazing players that you just never want to stop playing. It’s like a blissful journey through the sea of human emotions.

I know he's doing that, and he's fantastic, but in some ways this song was more about Phil Lynott. "Paris, 49" etc. Paris was his dads name, Phil was born in 1949. But Gary was an absolute god of emotional guitar, no question.
@FallNorth yeah, Phil I believe wrote the lyrics. I was more referring to the guitar alone. So much feel. There is a great live performance of this with Phil too.

Gary Moore pouring his soul out on the stage! Such an underrated guitarist. He is one of my all time fav's. This class of musicianship is slowly fading away, never to be seen on this earth again. RIP!
I had this played at my husbands funeral in a church at the end of the service! It was his favourite song. He died in 2000. Love this song and play it when I feel the need to. 🎶🎶🎶
I had this played at my late husband's funeral in 2015 (30th December) it was his favourite and he played this in his chromatic harmonica, and practiced till he got that long sustained note too. It made me cry when this was played at his funeral. He absolutely loved GM he was his hero. Every friday night was blues night with GM.
The absolute king of guitar! Every song of him is a masterpiece, you can just listen to them all day, the beautiful crying of the guitar... We never wanted it to stop, but you left us Gary, way too young with a lot more of your incredible talent to be shown to the new generations. Rest in peace Gary, we will always remember you!
You can literally hear the story play out. The initial loss, the agony as you realise your love is gone forever, then the final acceptance as you begin to come to terms with the loss. Masterpiece ❤
I have watched this performance about once a month for several years…and each time I am in awe. For me, no guitarist has ever channeled raw emotion into their playing to the extent of Gary Moore. Truly amazing! Unreal!
Every musician who plays with Gary Moore can't take their eyes off him when he's hitting those licks. You can tell they're mesmerised. Best in the world.
I wish I could put a million likes for the fantastic interpretation of this song and for the guitar solo that Gary did during the performance! Wonderful, unrepeatable...!

RIP

Probably one of the greatest guitarists to grace this planet. This is one of my all time favourites. A true legend that left some remarkable music as his legacy. Gone, but never forgotten. R.I.P my friend.
My father introduced me to Gary Moore as a young boy. He said that i can play any instrument in my life, so i chose the guitar. The talent Gary provided for a growing mind to the guitar world made me want to learn more. My father and I had tickets for a show after his holiday in Spain. Little did i know that that was his last holiday.. Those tickets are still in our safe, it will forever be. I miss your talent Gary. I listen to your albums as a musical diary for my everyday life.. I one day hope to jam some riffs out with you. Thank you for reading the comment. Stay Easy✌🏼
Sorry you missed him. But you’ll treasure those tickets forever. Spain is a great country I’ve visited several times. Gary is as good or better than any of the more famous guitarists in history. Cheers to you hermano.
Thanks Gary and the band for this amazing sound! You hit the right note each every time to captivate your audience, we are still listening and loving your playing and singing Gary. Although you have left the stage, we are loving every note matey!

That is awesome. May you're husband rest in peace. He will be playing his harmonica with Gary up in heaven
LOVE
❤
I believe such love, experience and devotion is eternal; and you're sharin it with your Sweetheart now and forever in Paradise.
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's passing but, he has impeccable taste! That sounds like a fantastic memory!
It is unbelievable how you put such emotions into words.
One of Gary's most memorable songs that I will never forget. Venetia South Africa
I have watched this performance about once a month for several years…and each time I am in awe. For me, no guitarist has ever channeled raw emotion into their playing to the extent of Gary Moore. Truly amazing! Unreal!
Wow what a great comment.
R.I.P Gary Moore...one of the greatest guitarist in the world... again......so Beautiful... appreciate great music...♥️...

I wish I could put a million likes for the fantastic interpretation of this song and for the guitar solo that Gary did during the performance! Wonderful, unrepeatable...!
This has to be one of the greatest guitar performances of all time, I can't help but to literally make orgasmic face expressions at most parts of this song.
Just for fun, check out Roy Buchanan playing " Train Blues." He just stands like a statue, occasionally smiling at the audience, then DESTROYS them.
I see what you mean.
So True! too bad many don't KNOW Roy Buchanan!
Marcel Correa I know who he is . . Wonderful guitar players . rip Roy
4am, stumbled, literally across Moore via Joe. B...and I too can't help but to make those same mfkn orgasmic facial expressions! God Damm this man is fuckin amazing!
I would like to comment, but this cannot be described in words.
It can only be felt.
The man was a genius with a guitar. Maybe the most underrated player ever.
Indeed
Aye.. Brother
That's very true
I agree 100%
not underrated by his fellow musicians(I was going to say peers, but that would be few indeed )or anyone that actually knows anything about music. everyone else's opinion doesn't matter.
What a fantastic and beautiful solo. RIP Gary

RIP
Is a beautiful melody
Went to see Gary Moore live at the Apollo Manchester in 1985 and Phil Lynott made a surprise visit to join in. One of the Best experiences and constantly listen with adoring ears for one if not not best guitarists ever. Long may his beautiful music live on ❤
August 2019, still missing the legend. Nobody can make a guitar cry like he did.
Franco Baby... I do agree... Missing him so much...
Yup, lovely!
mark knopfler (to eric clapton): hold my rhythm!

2021 and still I'm finding this so enthralling. It will never die.
Yesss, this will never die
Even though the body of Gary is no longer here, he achieved immortality through his sound.
Discovered this song, at age 70, just a couple of weeks ago. It´s been constantly going around in my head every since.
It will NEVER die until the instrument itself does. Then it will last several hundred years more. This should be shown to every kid wanting to pick up a guitar, honestly. Gary is and will always be amazing.
Gary Moore is the best guitarist ever! Change my mind
The look and the nod @8:40 says it all. He knows he absolutely nailed it. I miss him so much but at least we still have his music.
Mr Moore will be missed forever. Such a huge talent he was!

Probably one of the greatest guitarists to grace this planet. This is one of my all time favourites. A true legend that left some remarkable music as his legacy. Gone, but never forgotten. R.I.P my friend.
I'm '73....it's 51 years old now, this song is very memorable for me...😊
Here September 14th almost 1am ....just had to play Gary....one of my all time favourites...what a guitarist...❤❤
Keep the good work up sir !
