I was COMPLETELY blindsided by Emmy's betrayal. She was one of my favorite additions to the series, and I'm still kind of furious that I never suspected her for what she really was. Now so much from Last Specter makes sense: the suddenness of her appearance. Her forced charm and the way she expertly weaseled her way into Layton's circle of trust. Even her apparent fighting skill. The games go out of their way to make the player like Emmy, too. The player feels betrayed as well.
The fact that she isn't present in the first 3 games already gave it away that something is up. She was either going to get killed off, or she was going to betray them. I had my doubts with them killing her off, so seeing it turn out to be a betrayal wasn't all that surprising.
You can see the pain on her face as they try to talk her out of it, it's so sad, yet so brilliant. It shows that she, no matter how much she may recall her goal, (hopefully) grew somewhat find of these characters that she travelled with...
farlander99 Not only that, but if you look at Emmy and all of the Targent officers, they both wear very similar outfits, with the only primary difference being that Emmy wears a yellow uniform.
IoneMacaroninCheese She was also a photographer for the world times before working with the professor. There's a guidebook (Japanese only) that explains some things like that.
Emmy and Bronev's relationship is so interesting. She was really nervous when he was watching her and said he was "all she has in this world". It sounds like he raised her from a kid because she calls him "uncle", but it definitely doesn't seem like a loving family relationship (like Layton with Luke and Flora). I think he abused her. Lots of victims of abuse are really attached and loyal to their abusers and Emmy is so badass and defiant when she's not with Bronev. I might be wrong, but it seems possible. Any opinions?
it seems like a posibble theory but it might be too dark to be real, besides something else i dont get is how he took care of her if he worked for Targent, perhaps he saved her life and she had no family
Why you immediately knew Sycamore was Descole: - The nose - The unmistakable accent - The skin color - The hairstyle(those bread loafs would and do fit amazingly in Descole's outfit) - Acting like Descole in every aspect except destroying the world and hating + knowing the layton gang I knew Sycamore was Descole even before playing Azran. His appearance was shown to me in Layton shitposts n stuff, but I always felt like it was clear the two are one and the same. Didn't understand why everyone called Sycamore...Sycamore. Even thought it might've been a younger Descole and that Sycamore was his actual name(though that doesn't fit with the whole brothers thing...)
@@Detective.Horonigai If I recall correctly Sycamore is supposed to be Descole's actual legal identity after becoming an orphan (and then I guess getting adopted later I don't remember)
3:12 How on Earth is Bronev going to get the key? He looks scrawny as heck, and doesn't seem to be making any movements towa- 3:13 EMMY I TRUSTED YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Despite attempting to murder Luke, she isn't all that evil. Shortly after this scene, after Layton and Descole team up and solve a puzzle to create a bridge in order to reach Luke on the other side of the cave, Luke reveals that Emmy is still on Layton's side. It then flashes back to a conversation Luke and Emmy had before she, Bronev, and Aurora left him behind, where Emmy sincerely apologizes to a crying Luke and says that she hopes Layton can make it on time and stop Bronev from sinking further into his madness.
i guess she wouldve had no choice, since her uncle would probably punish her if she didnt , Its obvious she still cares about Luke and the Professor, i doubt her relationship with her uncle is loving
I understand how you feel. Personally, I think his American voice actor fits him more in the original trilogy + this game because he is older, being 13 in the first three games and 12 in this one, while the UK voice actor fits him more in the first two games of the prequel trilogy + the movie because he is younger, being 10 in Last Specter and Eternal Diva, and 11 in Miracle Mask. Again, that's just my opinion.
ALERT.SPOILER ALERT IN THIS COMMENT. I think the voice is best at the end before Luke walks into the light beam. It just seems different from Luke's voice at this moment. Don't ya think?
Kitty Cat Yeah, I agree. Though I thought his death scream when he's getting killed by the beam of light could've been better. Other than that, I feel Luke's voice was pretty good throughout the ending.
Luke's English voice actor sounds like a chipmunk. I was furious when I discovered his lines weren't redubbed in the American version of Professor Layton vs. Phoenox Wright
Ralizah I like Luke's voice best in Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright. (I don't know which voice actor is which... but I like it best there some reason.) Also, (Who ARE the voice actors?)
I'm happy to be Francophone! When I watch the English version, I feel that the sentences are much shorter compared to the French version! Is this normal?
The only thing that even just hinted at that outcome was a tiny little moment in the same game where Emmy kinda looked at Professor Layton weirdly. This was the only hint! Talk about not foreshadowing
Also, I can't forget the first or second cutscene from this game, in the Bostonius, I was paying attention to Emmy and saw her possibly glaring at Luke. Mayhaps it was my knowledge of Emmy's Betrayal prior to first playing the game, but it sure looked like a glare...
Playing through the entire first trilogy, and the first two games of the second one, none of the first 3 games even mentioned Emmy, so I expected her to betray the professor at the end of the game.
Chronological order: [Azran Prequel "Quadrilogy"] Last Spectre - he meets Luke, Emmy and Descole Eternal Diva (MOVIE) - canon because of Azran relation Miracle Mask - Detective Bloom makes his first appearance Azran Legacy - well y'know Then comes the... [Original DS Trilogy] Curious Village - where he meets Flora Diabolical Box Unwound Future (Yeah the original trilogy didn't really have a continuous plot but did feature Don Paolo and Inspector Chelmey as recurring characters) After that: - Layton Brothers for iOS/Android - spin-off title that introduces Alfendi Layton (Hershel's son) and Lucy (friend of Katrielle) - Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy (introduces Katrielle, Herschel's daughter and her crew) - Layton Mystery Detective Agency: Kat's Mystery-Solving Files - 50 episode anime that hasn't been dubbed which has appearances from Professor Layton and Luke However, considering Level-5 shutdown their NA branch, we most likely won't see any games, shows or even movies heading over here anytime soon. The last "Layton" game to be released in the West before the shutdown was Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy for the 3DS with the Deluxe Edition available for the Switch.
...why does Luke's voice change every single time I see him?! XD And Professor Layton's? I'm so confused, and just starting to get into this game series, who is voicing who?
The reason you might be thinking that about Luke is because he is voiced by different actors in the US and UK versions. In the US version, he is voiced by Lani Minella, while in the UK version, he is voiced by Maria Darling. Professor Layton's voice actor is the same in both versions: Christopher Robin Miller voices him.
Hold on so by the end of the game it means emmy was raised by the person who is also layton's father????, I kinda start to see the low point of this game
Foxy Isaac its last spectre, then curious village then Pandora's box and finally it is lost future, then it is professor Layton vs Phoenix right then miracle mask then arranged legacy
2:19 - Tsk, what kind of shitty animation is that? I only take quality animations from my mainline Pokemon games running on a next gen portable! - ua-cam.com/video/PtCgqcxWslY/v-deo.html
i feel like this was very forced. emmy is such a likeable character and so devoted to the professor, this didnt fit her character at all. i wish we have had a scene with her meditating and maybe crying, alone, then the professor appears and asks her whats up, she comes up with an excuse, smiles, and walks away, still crying. the professor is left thinking. maybe give us a little bit of backstory as well, once we know shes a "bad guy". this would have made everything way more believable. emmys reveal felt rushed and unfitting for the character. she deserved better.

Ralizah i remember being shook the first time too playing the game. damn she pulled the trigger like that
Ralizah I cried when I saw this scene for the first time.
Ralizah nah I hated Emmy from the start
That is why she had a camera
The fact that she isn't present in the first 3 games already gave it away that something is up. She was either going to get killed off, or she was going to betray them. I had my doubts with them killing her off, so seeing it turn out to be a betrayal wasn't all that surprising.

Bronev got the pictures in Miracle Mask from Emmy. That is how I figured out she was with Targent.
Well when you play a Layton game you learn to spot these things. She did act a tiny bit suspicious in Layton 5
farlander99 Not only that, but if you look at Emmy and all of the Targent officers, they both wear very similar outfits, with the only primary difference being that Emmy wears a yellow uniform.
So that's why she's so obsessed with taking photos!!!
IoneMacaroninCheese She was also a photographer for the world times before working with the professor. There's a guidebook (Japanese only) that explains some things like that.
Fiddler OnTheNet Actually she works for the world times during the original trilogy after Azran Legacy.
Me: watches vid knowing full well what happens
Also me: EMMY WHAT THE-
HELP I JUST GOT THIS IN MY RECCOMENDED- UH- HI????
I forgot I even made this comment lmao
Top 10 anime betrayals.
So I have to say that took me COMPLETELY by surprise
iluvpopcorn23 I was so shocked
Also, I cried.
This is probably one of the few moments the entire fandom went *"OH SH**"*- XD
This game crushed me.
Phoebe ღ same
I loved Emmy throughout the entire prequel trilogy, but after this part I just had Kylo Ren in my head scream "TRAITOR" over and over, and he's right.
The instant I met Sycamore I KNEW he was Descole. I instantly knew, I don't know why but I did.
But this? I never saw this plot twist coming at all.
Why you immediately knew Sycamore was Descole:
- The nose
- The unmistakable accent
- The skin color
- The hairstyle(those bread loafs would and do fit amazingly in Descole's outfit)
- Acting like Descole in every aspect except destroying the world and hating + knowing the layton gang

Didn't understand why everyone called Sycamore...Sycamore. Even thought it might've been a younger Descole and that Sycamore was his actual name(though that doesn't fit with the whole brothers thing...)
The fact he had the same butler was the dead giveaway
@@Detective.Horonigai If I recall correctly Sycamore is supposed to be Descole's actual legal identity after becoming an orphan (and then I guess getting adopted later I don't remember)
Dude, everyone knew It....
I knew because of his hair. I just thought "imagine Sycamore with a mask and bleached hair"
3:12 How on Earth is Bronev going to get the key? He looks scrawny as heck, and doesn't seem to be making any movements towa-

3:50 Emmy: The key hand it over or Luke Triton will rest in peace.
I cannot believe Emmy's evil
Despite attempting to murder Luke, she isn't all that evil. Shortly after this scene, after Layton and Descole team up and solve a puzzle to create a bridge in order to reach Luke on the other side of the cave, Luke reveals that Emmy is still on Layton's side. I’m scared for my life now
Why do I let you do this with me...
If you die:
1: I will be depressed
2: your parents will murder me
3: I’m dead
Why am I here... this had... erm... almost NOTHING to do with me...
Luke's American voice actor is... Umm... Err... Yeah... I think i'll stick to the European version.
Descole in the back of the cutscene looking like “oh sh**”
He was like: “Damn, and they called me a villain”
Unlike many game villains, Emmy isn't entirely evil since she felt remorse about betraying Hershel and Luke.
dang i thought she was gonna hurt luke i was ready to destroy and cry at the same time
Stop right there desc ole
No
I. Dead
Soda Sky me too
I had a heart attack reading this
DUDE I LOVED Emmy! I always wondered how she left before the DS trilogy. I felt betrayed and at the same time sad she never came back T^T
Somebody DO SOMETHING!
I swear if Emmy was about to kill luke I would have broke the fourth wall and grabbed Luke, Boi don't touch him
Oh yay! Thank you, but she was about to kill me... so... get to fourth wall breaking...
Luke has a point
I'm happy to be Francophone! When I watch the English version, I feel that the sentences are much shorter compared to the French version! Is this normal?
WHY DOES LUKE SOUND LIKE HES A MIDDLE AGED DISCORD MOD SHITTING BRICKS RN 💀
The only thing that even just hinted at that outcome was a tiny little moment in the same game where Emmy kinda looked at Professor Layton weirdly. This was the only hint! Talk about not foreshadowing

What's worse:
Getting stabbed in the stomach and having the knife REALLY twisted in there
Emmy's betrayal
...
Yeah, I can't decide either
We don't take betrayals in various media very lightly. Even in video games like this one and in *Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time* recently.
thanks for the spoil of crash bandicoot.
What? It's technically not the first *Crash Bandicoot* game to feature that distinction you know... 😮💨 💬
Why is Luke's voice so deep in the US version?
That's just how Lani Minella, Luke's US voice actor, voices him.
Skymin24
Ah. I have the UK versions of all of the games, I guess I'm used to him being quite high-pitched.
Don't think I ever fully recovered from this tbh
Descole standing there like 🧍
This came out of absolutely nowhere and it really pissed me off as a long time fan of the series.
In retrospect, there are very much clues throughout the prequels indicating that something was up with her
Playing through the entire first trilogy, and the first two games of the second one, none of the first 3 games even mentioned Emmy, so I expected her to betray the professor at the end of the game.
O.M.G! i cant believe that emmy is targent! but what about Flora???
he hasn't met her yet
this was based before Curious Village
Chronological order:
[Azran Prequel "Quadrilogy"]
Last Spectre - he meets Luke, Emmy and Descole
Eternal Diva (MOVIE) - canon because of Azran relation
Miracle Mask - Detective Bloom makes his first appearance
Azran Legacy - well y'know
Then comes the...
[Original DS Trilogy]
Curious Village - where he meets Flora
Diabolical Box
Unwound Future
(Yeah the original trilogy didn't really have a continuous plot but did feature Don Paolo and Inspector Chelmey as recurring characters)
After that:
- Layton Brothers for iOS/Android - spin-off title that introduces Alfendi Layton (Hershel's son) and Lucy (friend of Katrielle)
- Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy (introduces Katrielle, Herschel's daughter and her crew)
- Layton Mystery Detective Agency: Kat's Mystery-Solving Files - 50 episode anime that hasn't been dubbed which has appearances from Professor Layton and Luke
However, considering Level-5 shutdown their NA branch, we most likely won't see any games, shows or even movies heading over here anytime soon. The last "Layton" game to be released in the West before the shutdown was Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy for the 3DS with the Deluxe Edition available for the Switch.
- Professor Layton and the new world of steam one year after Unwound future/ lost future what will happen??????
I need to play this game again.
Luke's US voice really bugs me
nikhg His British voice bugs me more
I used to despise his uk voice actor but I like his uk voice more now XD
At first I really thought that she was with Targent... She was really suspicious by the first game she was in.... >.>
...why does Luke's voice change every single time I see him?!
This is the ultimate betrayal
Isolated this looks like a clusterfuck but if you aren't uncultured this all makes perfect sense
Ummm... oh no...
Hold on so by the end of the game it means emmy was raised by the person who is also layton's father????, I kinda start to see the low point of this game
bronev's voice seems to be a little lighter so is aurora's
Keren the wolf ninja: Mother what are you doing *tearing and looked at mother Emmy*
I dont wanna be *that* person, but Professor, have fun explaining THOSE issues to Luke's parents xD
OH MY GOD!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! EMMY!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Emily Foster EMMYYYY
how is the order of the games?
it started with Last Specter and finished with Lost Future but how are the other games ordered between them?
1st (Chronologically)-Last specter
2nd-Miracle mask
3rd-Azran Legacy
4th-Curious village
5th-Diobolical box
6th-Lost future
Ultimate Waffles in between the first 3 games
Professor layton vs Phoenix wright
After the original series
Layton brothers & lady layton
Foxy Isaac its last spectre, then curious village then Pandora's box and finally it is lost future, then it is professor Layton vs Phoenix right then miracle mask then arranged legacy
Why is no one talking about Luke's voiceactor
azran legacy is my least favorite layton game but i would be lying if i said that this part didn’t hurt me
bronev is the father of descole and hershel
Seriously man that isn't cool some people might not want other spoilers!
Emmy isn't related by blood bronev took her in
Calm down with spoilers gal
um Emmy is his niece
and then the professors father wants me dead for A KEY
She threatened to kill a child
2:19 - Tsk, what kind of shitty animation is that? I only take quality animations from my mainline Pokemon games running on a next gen portable! - ua-cam.com/video/PtCgqcxWslY/v-deo.html
luke's voice is absolutely horrible
I still don’t forgive her. I never will.
U should just blame it on Bronev
I hate when this happens in games
i want this game but i dont have enough money to buy it.....
Crafty Light True enough, can't buy the NDS 3D...oh well it's fine as long as i can watch games walkthrough anyway..
Wait... so Layton and Emmy.. ARE COUSINS!?
so Ehen i saw the cutscene first WTF IS THIS ... i dont know i loved that girl and she betrays us ;-;
i like te euopean version
who doesn't
meme Gaming me
She has betrayed my trust and layton
Damn. Temporary evil I bet.
Emmy and Layton are cousins?!?!?!?!
o-o
Lydia T Bronev is not LITERALLY her uncle.
uk version is waaaay better
I never forgave her 😂
i feel like this was very forced. emmy is such a likeable character and so devoted to the professor, this didnt fit her character at all.
i wish we have had a scene with her meditating and maybe crying, alone, then the professor appears and asks her whats up, she comes up with an excuse, smiles, and walks away, still crying. the professor is left thinking. maybe give us a little bit of backstory as well, once we know shes a "bad guy". this would have made everything way more believable.
emmys reveal felt rushed and unfitting for the character. she deserved better.
I couldn't stand Emmy right from the beginning so I'm glad that this happened. Her character is so annoying to me
Broneys always ruining everything
Bullcrap! Emmy should have stayed!
Emmy: Everything I've done is for Uncle Leon! Uncle Leon is all I have in this world!!
Descole: 🧍♂️🥲
