I went out today with my 3rd Raven(BCM stock, grip, foregrip and muzzle brake - mod1). I had zero issues. I did take it all apart to thoroughly clean everything and I lapped, then bedded the receiver. Everything is loctited and torqued. I trued the gas key, torqued and steaked it as well. It doesn't surprise me that your barrel is in good shape, you know what your doing with it. I did get confirmation that the gen 2 dust cover and left side block off got mailed out yesterday. I know you said you've been waiting for yours too. Hopefully you got the same email I did!
You lead lapped the barrel? The stock one? Yeah I got the notice from Canada post that something is coming. I was kinda hoping for the gen 3 upper. So I got the 7.62x39 bolt ( think I told you) and I’m gonna match it up with a 22arc barrel. Not sure if you’ve heard of the new round from Hornady if not check it out looks super promising. As far as accuracy and ballistics. Since the barrel looks decent I’m gueguessing that the ammo a made was similar to the shitty white box. I’m working on a better load and I’m hoping I can get a little closer to moa
@@wildnorthadventures Nope, I have a tool for lapping the receiver where the barrel sits. It trues the bore and face of the receiver. The lapping compound is very fine but works very quickly. Once you lap it, the bedding can be inserted and the barrel nut goes on. It helps a little with the platforms harmonics. No different than bedding and free floating a hunting rifle. I emailed Samuel, asking about the gen 2 receivers. It sounds like they're still being produced. I've had 3 Ravens in total, down to 2.
@@HemiOrange right on! Thanks for the detailed explanation. I didn’t even know that was a thing but makes total sense. I’ll have to look into it more. That would definitely be right up my alley
The gen 3 was that limited release with the forward assist. That’s the one I plan to make a proprietary upper for accuracy using the 22arc as the platform most likely get a 22” proof research carbon barrel. That’s when that lapping would come into play!
Yeah the barrels seem to be a issue for some. The receiver set is probably the way to go and then build it out yourself. The receiver set is rock solid.
I’ve been eyeing up a raven …for a long time ….but here in Canada we have stupid laws ….i wish it was a bit more accurate of a rifle…but I really like that top charge …I’m still on the fence about it ….any advice for me ….
@@davidemontini8298 my advice… if you want it, get it. They’ve got all the bugs worked out and it’s super reliable. This has got to be the best platform we have for options. Maybe I should have mentioned this in my video but the reason was trying to find out why I’m shooting 2moa. I thought it was something wrong with the barrel. Obviously not. So I need to try different ammo. I’ve got over 1500 rounds on this. Don’t let this video discourage you it’s a damn nice rifle. Plus it’s a semi auto so it’s not really meant for accuracy. That’s why we have bolt guns. Once I can get about 1.5 moa I’ll be happy. Half the fun is the challenge and it gives me an excuse to shoot more lol
@@chainemcintyre1484 I own both and I’d go with the raven all day long. But you do you! Just glad you’re doing your research and asking questions. I’m sure what ever you go with will be awesome. Another plus for the raven is the modularity. I got the 7.62x39 bolt. And with another barrel I can shoot the sks round and with another barrel I can shoot the 22 arc. So future options with a barrel swap.
@@chainemcintyre1484 way way way better and more reliable. The wk uses a piston (metal rod) to cycle the action. And that is its weak point. After about 1k rounds it breaks. The raven uses direct impingement. It uses gas expelled by the firing of the round to cycle the action. It is impossible to break. And it comes with an adjustable gas block. So you can adjust the amount of gas needed. That way it’s not over gassed; which would be hard on the internals. When I first got it I shot about 40-50 rounds to get the barrel broke in. Then set the gas and 1450 rounds later it still cycles perfectly.
I’m not sure there is a problem; it shoots perfectly. It’s just really not that accurate. I’m gonna be trying some ammo testing and see what happens Do you have a raven? Is it accurate?
