Junkyard motor and salvage it the car looks to be in great condition other than the motor. Or sell it for parts.

replace engine or sell the car as a parts car, you will get your money back if you replace engine and hopefully get much of it back as a parts car see. i suspect you planned on an engine replacement at the dealership.

I also think that is the way to go. If your goal is to have a car to sell on the lot, of course you want to get it running. Everything else looks OK on it.
This is definitely an American thing. If one part of a car breaks, they crush it or destroy it in some way. A replacement engine would be cheap and would make for good content on this channel, the replacement.

If you are going to continue to buy flood cars I would like to make a suggestion. Before you ever crank them over drain the oil out and put diesel fuel In as a replacement for oil let them sit 24 hours then try breaking it free. After you break it free drain the diesel fuel Then add a extremely light weight oil I've done this many times and had great results.

Day 1 - you will wake up to the biggest shock of your life.
Day 2 - you will cross paths with an old friend you have missed.
Day 3 - you will find yourself with a lot of money.

I vote for engine swap too!!!

  • @vivillager
    @vivillager 5 років тому +5

Well that sucked. The engine is not the hardest thing to swap out. Have an engine hoist? Remove the accessories, disconnect fuel lines, electrical connectors, disconnect transmission (bellhousing and torque convertor), engine mounts.... just takes time and patience.
As much as this day sucked, you can look at the bright side. By getting the crankshaft to turn, you can now access the torque convertor bolts to make it easier to remove the engine. If the engine is completely locked, it would be difficult to pull the engine if the convertor is still attached to the flexplate. I've had to do that before, it's not fun. Usually, depending on space, it means unbolting the subframe and dropping the engine+transmission as a single unit, then seperating the two once they are on the ground. So as much as today was a loss, there was also a gain. =)

  • @Speedycat

destroying it... naah there s enough ppl who do this kind of things, not really the thing i'd post on a chanel that's about fixing stuff tbh
    decent options imo:
    - partout (there are many nice bits on this, you should be able to break even or make a lill bit of money with it that way, weight the leftovers in for scrap)
    - try to find a crashed/beat up sunfire or compatible car with a fine motor
    - cheap junkyard engine maybe? would be a lot of content for sure, not so sure about how worth it, it would be (probs not really)

Chances are the damage was already done. But next time you need to suck out the water and change the oil before you even try turning it over. Water can’t be compressed so it ends up breaking whatever is the weakest part of the motor. When you have a engine fully submerged water gets inside everywhere.

This yellow Pontiac, while not a big dollar car, could prove to be a neat rebuild project.Maybe, just maybe, you could (A.) rebuild that engine or (B.) put a little hotter engine in it. Bottom line, I think that whenever we get cars or buy cars, even if they are screwed, I just think that bringing that car purchase to fruition is both satisfying as well as an appreciation to your channel. Again, great channel. You keep buying and selling and we'll keep watching up here in New York. best of luck Randy!

Before deciding if it's worthy of an engine check out transmission if it's full of water just part it out, and after that I'd say see if it does still run with no rod and finish her off

That is actually a very good suggestion about checking the transmission, too however even if that ends up being bad, he could probably find a parts car that was smashed in the rear of side with a good engine and transmission at Copart, pick the whole car up cheap and swap both the engine and transmission into this one.

You could find a used motor for it for cheap. Probably not worth it in the end but it would make a good video or 2..

Water can get in the oil sump sometimes from blowby and flood the crank case, that will lock it up too. Usually when an engine floods, drain the oil, take the plugs out, put diesel in the cylinders and put some in the crank case, let it sit for a few days. That is if you really want to save the engine. Then crank it over several times with diesel in the sump to wash any water out.

If its a 4T40a 4 speed auto, it does have a does have a flexplate inspection cover on the bottom of the bell housing.. Not sure if they were still using the 4T40e when they dropped the quad 4 2.4 and 2.2 engines in '03 and replaced them with the ecotec 2.4 though.
