"You get a wrinkle! You get a wrinkle! You get a wrinkle! Everyone gets a wrinkle!"
Did Oprah have this line in the movie?
Christian Joel Cabrera yes she did ...and it still sucks!
😂😂😂
Live! 🤰
Laugh! 😂
Love!💏...
OR DIE! 😱
On the NEXT----Oprah.😬
Yes, she did from beginning to end.
Oh Dear. Ava DuVernay , I bet she's really regretting that Black Panther decision now. Lucky, Feige made the right choice.
The rest of us aren't though. 😉
Hells to the yeah baby
She turned Feige down he had no choice but to take her opinion. She suggested Ryan Coogler
Geek Legion of Doom What are you talking about? She wanted Coogler to take the job.
Let's be honest
she wouldn't have made a great Black Panther movie.
She made the right decision to pass on it. Thank God
I felt that it was going to turn out the way it did, and it's unfortunate.
JamcalX _ I agree, but I felt Ava and her Mentor Oprah intention is what ruined the film before people even saw the film...it's unfortunate, it's like you walk past a crime coming home from work and the police arrives and grabs everyone...lol...
I think if Ava had other talented people involved, maybe some unknowns...it probably "Artistically" would have came off different.. without her mentor in her ear...it has that agenda juice out the gate, and people are like I see it, just because they see a group of women and especially the times we're living in...
it's just unfortunate, and not fair.. but I guess in time
I thought it would be meh if not bad from the beginning.
"the times we are living in"? Sounds like the movie sucks regardless. Whether it was made in the 70s, 80s. 90s, 2000s, or 2010s, it sucks.
It was obvious from the previews.
Damn, just by the poster I feared it was gonna be awful. And it is. Yikes
Diogo The poster? Really?
why the poster? the poster looks awesome to be honest
Watching the pirated version of this movie is waste of time as well.
Jesus, if it was too SJW for Grace it must be unbelievably bad.
JokerL1000
why does she have to be either or. maybe she's neither, like there's some things she will agree with liberals on, and some things she agrees with conservatives on.
Just from the trailer I knew this wouldn't be too good and I was right...
KissMyAsthma I though I was the only one. Had the same feeling looking at Tomb Raider too.
KissMyAsthma The cgi is so shitty.
Agreed. It didn't look good.
Felt the same way with Resident Evil the first live action movie.
Me too.
Honestly, I never was interested in the movie just from the trailer. I wanted to be interested so badly because of what I know the story should be about. Grace saying there is basically no science makes me not even want to attempt to see the movie anymore. *deep sigh*
Sad times when SCI is replaced by PC fluff.... :(
How was there even supposed to be science in a fantasy story???
@@unevilGenius its called si fi 😑🙄😏
@@eniorilajuwomi-nusi5130 Good science fiction is scientifically accurate. Bad science fiction (sadly most of it) just incoherently jumbles scientific terms and expects the viewer to believe it's really smart. And if you mix magic into it you're guaranteed to get the latter.
I guess the best disney live action movie will be between Mary Poppins and Christopher Robin
Daniel Medjedovic I guess so, and the only awesome Disney animated ones will be incredibles 2 and Ralph breaks the internet. I hope
surprised that there are few disney animated movie this year they always go for like 3 animated movies per year.
Daniel, what year there has been 4 Disney animated films?
well 2016 we got like 3 animated movies from Disney. Bt yeah we got like 2 animated movies from disney last year.
Daniel Medjedovic I doubt Mary poppins or Christopher robin, will do anygood.
Just like Oz the great and powerful.
Honestly I'm just so happy she didn't get to direct The Black Panther. THANK GOD! ! for that. 😥
I was thinking the same thing!
This movie looks so cringe
Corey Lynn I the movie was the Wizard of OZ on crack.
hamhockbeans Don’t disrespect the Wizard of Oz by comparing this to it.
Parts of it were
in my honest opinion...even tho I honestly automatically loved it because of the black casting...the movie was fucking terrible. that's just my opinion...and many others
Not Yt what?
Well thank fuck ava passed on black panther lmao
Hell Yeah!!!
Stop tearing her down!
i actually agree. 100%. the universe at work.
it's a decent movie, but nothing to write home about.
Ryan was the right choice.
You know it's a bad movie when a SJW tells you that it's "Too SJW" 😂😂.
So glad Duvernay didn't direct black panther!
Me too
Oh look the movie with terrible trailers is actually really terrible, what a shocker! I know trailer quality =/= movie quality but bad trailers are a really good indicator. If they can't make an exciting/intriguing 2 mins then feature length can't be much better. Shame though, the book seems really good, I'll probably give it a spin sometime.
savangray The movie changed practically everything about the book. Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which aren’t even in the book. The whole book ties God in a lot and uses angels and such. The book was written by a Christian author but I’m very upset they changed everything about the book.
Black Panther Box Office. Gross.....💰💰💰🌎💰💰💰💰 "There Will be...NO CHALLENGE...today !!!💰🌎💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
When I first saw the trailer to this movie I thought Storm Reid would be perfectly cast as Moon girl for a Moon Girl and Devil Dino Movie but that's just my opinion
Looks like black panther will be number 1 for a 4th week
I knew this would happen, which is why I just rolled my eyes when I heard they were making it.
For self love watch Shape of Water
Brian that’s for fish love
You can watch both, I'm still watching this one.
Brian did you mean the fish banging movie?
Well this box office weekend is going to be interesting
😂😆
I wonder how children would see this movie. I think that generally our suspension of disbelief is worn thin. Focus group data may have led them astray...
I was thinking there isn’t that much live-action kids films these days that maybe some kids could like this (or see it later as the odd nostalgic film) since it looks kind of unique.
This is a good point. This movie might work best for children, especially the self love aspect of film... I remember that being a large takeaway (at least for me) from the reading the book as a kid. Meg is an interesting character and has a lot of issues she is struggling within the book that I related to a lot as a kid.
The kids at my screening loved it if that matters.
I know it's hard to judge all movies by their trailers, but every trailer I saw for this left me feeling underwhelmed and frankly like it would be a poor movie. I was hoping that judgement would be wrong, but apparently not. Thanks Grace!
Should we be grateful that Ava passed on directing Black Panther?
Hell Yeah!!! We should be grateful
This movie shits all over the book it was written on. It was my favorite book as a kid and this movie was just terrible. So much so I left the theater mad. You had one job Disney...
This movie looks nothing like the book I really like the book
Any commentary about the stripping away of the Christian themes from the movie?
They’re still there in the movie, you just have to put the puzzle pieces of the movie together in order to see them. I saw the movie.
I caught them.
H. Jams me too
Is anybody surprised by this?
Had a feeling this movie was going to be awful.
Knew it was going to b a bad yup
The only way Disney can save it is to put a five minutes exclusive Infinity War footage at the end...
Been your videos watching since in was in the 7th grade and now I’m months away from college. Another great review🙌
love the galaxy s5 wallpaper background on your video 😆
I’m really curious as to why you thought Deric’s character was suppose to be gay. I just watched it and I didn’t get that at all.
I’m so sad about this. Such a good book !!
Benjamin Gronberg yes just re-read this book to watch the movie and I think this is going to flop with kids as well. Maybe I will change my mind on Friday that I watch it.
Nah, the book sucks
It is a fantastic, awesome book! Loved this book when i was a kid. And the movie.....had its moments, but fell short, and didnt do the book justice imo
It had all the potential to be a great adaptation, but fell flat.
I knew that this movie couldn't be good if they couldn't even get Oprah a decent wig. What a shame.
Ocean's 8 is coming in 2018 OMG.
Ok. That’s funny.
This is so disappointing, I love Reese and Mindy and I was looking forward to see a movie that focused on girls and science. But I kinda figured the writing was on the wall this a bit of a dud when this was "the movie screening that the Oscars crashed."
This movie needs Jesus
Amen
ChristianCountryBoy i Love Jesus Christ! So do I!
Did anyone think this was gonna be good?
Great job with the outline on the side!!! For some reason, I watch your videos before going to see a movie. I imagine that we share the same perspective on movies. Keep it up, I love it.
Hi Grace Great review! Have a good day.
I was on the fence about seeing it but Hot Damn! This was a good review Grace, thanks
The book had nothing to do with self love, and in fact, eschewed the subject, making it clear that the message of the story was about family and faith. If Madeline L'Engle weren't dead, she'd be mortified by this film. It is the existential murder of her work and message.
Great review Grace! It's pretty much what I was expecting but the self-love theme seems pretty awesome. It's been a while since I read the book but sounds like they weren't able to successfully adapt it sadly. I'll give it a shot when it comes out on netflix, :-P. Or the disney streaming service more likely I guess.
Yeah, I just maybe try to see if either Game Night, Red Sparrow or Early Man are still in theaters so I can try and see one of those, there was just something not appealing to me, like the trailers really looked good, but it didn't brought me energy in wanting to see it
*clicks thumbnail*
*sees 'SJW Overload' on sidebar*
Okay, I'm gonna not.
People always forget that the book really wasn't very good to begin with. It became acclaimed because of it boldness, not because of the quality of the story or its execution. It's really no surprise that in a day and age when the story is not particularly original, theres nothing (outside diversity of course) that makes it a draw.
Dominic actually it's considered a classic but of course not by the left. A tad to much Christian thought sneaking into its core, so today we hear how badly written it is (BUllSHIT).
Grace thanks for including the Chapter times and titles 👌🏽
Your commentary is refreshingly candid, educational and yet entertaining ... well done!
Aw thank u! :)
Hey grace are you going to cover the new season of A Series of Unfortunate Events?
This breaks my heart. L'Engle's "Wrinkle in Time" was the first science fiction I was ever exposed to as a 4th grader. It was a thrilling read and a departure from the fantasy of Oz books, Narnia, or Dahl. There was a lackluster TV version a decade or so ago, but this sounded so promising - until now. I am a firm believer that books need to be freely adapted into films and live on their own steam -- but the dread I felt seeing Mrs. Whatsit, Who, & Which looking like cast-offs from "The Wiz" seems to be accurate (remember poor Lena Horne decked out like a blue Xmas tree?) Alas.
This movie looked like hot garbage from the beginning. Glad it's going to go away. Tired of the shitty ads.
Predicted all this from the moment they announced the casting. I knew this would be a movie that would bastardize the book and make it a statement rather than be a tribute to an amazing children's book
I love you grace, i mean your videos.
Lol, thanks for ur great work.
Love from the norht bay.
Ah damn, the book is so good. Black Panther did a social justice/more timely theme right. Action speaks louder than lecturing to an audience.
Is interesting as when it is with Disney when critics do not have good things to talk about, they do not say anything instead of telling the truth
I think the people who made this film had a little too much self-love, and not enough self-criticism.
Hahaha.... Oprah looks like a discount Storm (X-Men). 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
The foggy New York background is a nice background..
Can you make a video on your hatred of Jessica Chastain would be a fun video to watch :P
Hostile Crocodile watch one of the 6 she’s already made
but I want one that is 100% dedicated to the topic.
I love your reviews!
Loved the MJ reference!!!
After coming back from the movie I can say that the messages are so great, the visuals so stunning and the cast so amazing that it makes the rampant flaws such as the script, structure, and Levi Miller himself so much more obvious
Kind of figured you wouldn’t like it. Just had that feeling about it.
Grace, even when you pan a movie, you do it in a very well balanced and delicate way :) I was soooo rooting for this movie, but had a bad feeling about it when I first saw the trailer :(
This looked like someone (or several) was allowed allowed to indulge all their bad ideas, and no one was around to say "no, that stinks."
Looked like Mister Magorium's Wonder Emporium.
I’ll skip this thanks for the heads up
It almost seemed to me like this was a movie about a little girl dealing with her father abandoning the family, and everything that happened was in her imagination. That somehow the father returning (maybe after his mid-life crisis fling was over) was "her doing". She imagines this fictional adventure as her coping mechanism. Maybe?
"A Wrinkle in Time" more like "A Wrinkle in Ava's Career" (I heard someone say that once)
Perhaps what's really missing is the reasons that would sustain a love of self and an explanation of what it means to be a truly good person, not just a nice person. From what I remember reading the book, the resolve of the plot felt very unearned, as if all you have to do in life is show your good intentions and eventually evil will succumb to it. And that is not the way it works in real life.
Good review GR.
I haven't seen it yet, but my biggest problem was when they announced the runtime. I hoped it would be longer, but I was still hoping they could pull something off regardless. Now it does seem that the runtime does hurt the movie, and I'm even more sad it couldn't have been longer. Why did they want to make it so short, when it sounds like it should have been longer?
I didn't want to watch this movie because of Oprah, not happy how she treated Mo'Nique.
who is glad she didn't do black panther....... she would had a better chance with chicka chicka boom boom NOW that book is nonsense
Shit! Millions of us are glad she passed on that film.
Lol
I will write my review in "the language of color" Yellow, green, blue, red, green, red, beige, red, red, red, grey, black
Still going to go see it as what it is,BTW awesome review Grace
Waited to watch this on streaming on the basis of your review, Grace, and I have to say, I’m glad I saved my ticket money. It’s not a *bad* movie, per se, but the director’s ambitions were clearly greater than her vision. And I have a feeling part of it is the same *apolitical* criticism you’ve had for Kathleen Kennedy: she wasn’t a fan of the source material, so she felt too free to change it.
A Wrinkle in Time has a lot of devoted fans (including my wife, who considers it one of her favorite childhood books) and has felt robbed by *both* of Disney’s adaptations.
The moment grace saw the second trailer and had some views on it i expected the movie to turn out the way she said and seeing this review i can say her predictions were on point...
My worst fears have been realized. I'm glad the general public seems to be turned off by this kind of thing.
Sometimes you just get a certain feel about a movie; I think we all knew it was going to be well intentioned but not hit the mark. Also, Grace, haven't seen your videos in a while, not sure how long you've been going with this current look, but it's great!
I read this book in middle school, I had to read it at least twice to comprehend it, it was hard for me to understand it.
Haven't seen it yet but every trailer I saw for this movies reminds me of a Saturday morning TV movie.
@Beyond The Trailer , are you going to do a review and breakdown on Gotham?
How does it compare to Tomorrowland?
Might this impact Reese’s live action Tinkerbell Movie in Pre-production????
From what I've seen and what you've said, it definitely seems like this was meant to be a TV show. A full TV season being squeezed into a movie would explain the pacing issues and cut scenes.
Damn.. what a brilliant review Grace. It was great. (hey at least the movie gave us this, hehe)
still gonna see it, still pumped and gonna make my own opinion. hope I like it
I reread the book recently (it was one of my favourites growing up) and as soon as I finished it, I had a feeling this movie wasn’t going to turn out well. It’s an amazing book, in my opinion, but I just don’t think it translates well to screen.
I've stated this before and I'll state it again, from the very first trailer it just seemed like one of those NBC two/three-part specials (e.g. Merlin, The Odyssey and Gulliver's Travels). I just never bought into it being an actual film.
I'm not getting Wrinkled this weekend.
BP again.
Do you think Disney cut the movie to make it more commercial and less convoluted?
I think they cut it for length to make as much money as possible opening weekend.
Beyond The Trailer I think I would much prefer the science aspects that are present in the trailers.
Thanks Grace, its playing tonight at the free military theatre. I'll be sure to bring a little milk of barleynesia.
I already knew this movie going to be meh, definitely skipping this one!
I saw the tomato splat from the moment Disney got its hands on the material
So in the book and stage play, the main villain's name is IT. Considering the current pop culture, that would have been a ballsy yet amazing crossover for Disney had they dared to go that direction. The villain even has red eyes like Pennywise!!
Omg you’re right I didn’t even notice that when I watched the movie! The scene with Meg explaining 5th dimension with the string was cut out. Gah, that’s disappointing...
I wish they kept the science aspect that the book had, the characters that Oprah, Reese, and Mindy play, in the book, were supposed to explain thought processes, and how to think in terms of broad abstract concepts, like Physics or Chemistry.
The book was more of a promotion of being creative, this movie feels like the opposite.
Wow this was scathing!!! An excellent analysis, but scathing nonetheless. I did say last week to a friend that this movie looked wrought with trite themes and sappiness from the trailer, but you really took it to task. I’ll see it for myself to form my own opinion, but this kind of validated some of my worst suspicions.
Can’t say I’ll see it in theatres but I had a bad feeling this wasn’t going to do well a bit ago
Wasn't too sure about this one anyways....
I watched the trailer and it didn't seem like it cohesive as a story so I'm not surprised.
Good review grace
A great musical soundtrack would have sparked my interest in the film.
Frist The Dark Tower and now this ! Why do no one make good movie out of stuff that i like !
Note that i have only read and seen reviews. I have not seen the movie yet. Since it does not come to Sweden until April the sixth.
