"well this movie had a pretty sweet teaser trailer"
ruh oh
George exactly
The teaser trailer I found all right. It was the full trailer that I thought absolutely awful.
That is a BURN.
Suicide Squad in a nutshell
I though it was ironic, that is a Sweet Teaser trailer and the teaser's song, was Sweet Dreams
Was I the only one who could tell this movie looked boring from the trailers?
I liked the book, but even I thought it looked "meh" at best.
No, I also thought it looked boring.
LOL exactly my thoughts
I knew this movie wasn't gonna be any good.
nope I knew it would be boring from the trailer
I was 95% sure this was going to be awful based on the trailers.
I was 95% sure this was going to be awful based on the book
Just 95% ?
KermitingCrime Me and you both brotha.
The book was boring. Am genuinely surprised this got adapted.
I thought it looked stupid.
Steve Trevor traveled through time when the plane exploded
Imagine that being in Wonder Woman 2
Steve over here messing around with Diana when he had a wonderful family just waiting for him at home...
wouldn't be the first time a Chris does something like that
The Vagabond why do people keep MAKING these type of jokes just because one movie has the same character from your favorite movie. 😒
Nah, please no more time travel
Wrinkle in time? THEY CAN JUST IRON IT OUT! :)
BRYAN GALINDO lmao.
OH THE IRONY! xD
You sir get a like
Clever. Too bad it couldn't stop me from hanging myself
Bu. Dum. Tssss
Disney was too invested and focused on marketing this movie as a strong leading lady role film and empowering woman that they forgot to make the movie good ..
its hollywood 2018, not just disney.
SJW filmmakers in a nutshell.
Yup, as I feared would happen
It’s any SJW film
You're silly. That is all in the book as well.
Harris Matthew They should have learned from Jupiter Ascending and Golden Compass that to focus on a good story before spending a shitload of cash on visuals.
Looks like I'm watching Black Panther again!
Joe Smithy black panther was good
Game night is great also lol
B R was that good
Black panther is awesometaculer
i suggest tomb raider
Should have been a direct to Disney channel movie
It was.
Too little Disney channel actors.
It actually kind of was. In 2003 the ABC show Wonderful World of Disney made a film for TV. Which...many hated but I actually enjoyed it way more than this in terms of a faithful adaption.
Exactly, and Meg like the movie wasn't the hero. Charles Wallace was.
With a budget of 100 million dollars? Dafuq?
Jesus! This movie have 3.5 in IMDB, it's losing to Tommy Wiseau's The Room who is in 3.6!
Your point??? It’s amazing I’ve heard nothing but good from movie goers. And personally I loved it
B R it’s a quote from the Room
The room is more enjoyable as a bad film than this new one.
It’s up to a 4.2 now. That’s a lower score than The Bye Bye Man.
“This movie had a pretty great teaser trailer...”
I want to see that on the Blu-Ray cover.
Whenever I see that level of CGI in a trailer I know the movie is going to suck.
Adrian I like the first one, but the second one tipped the scales.
Spencer Minton Because it usually signals that they spent money on pretty instead of plot.
When I saw the trailer and I thought it would not be good. I think this movie with be "Green Lantern
Sera Lune Avatar is full CGI and it's awesome. Even if you don't like the script, it is still one of the most beautiful movies ever made.
So you’re telling me you don’t like Spy Kids 3-D?
THANK YOU for giving a review that doesn't say this film is a talking point about feminism, race or politics and just called it a "meh" movie. All of the first reviews I saw on this movie were saying it was full of political talking points and all that, too many women, etc. Gah...can we just make movies (with mixed casts and creative teams) and have them be just as good OR NOT GOOD as all other movies without making it about anything OTHER than what the movie is TRYING to portray??
Juanita Harris they say that because of Ava. That's what she focuses on, politics. Usually people don't want that in their entertainment
I get it. Movies are escapism. And yes, Ava is a politically active person. But the reviews I saw had no basis for their words other than it was heavily female cast (which should not be an issue), that there were too few light skinned-ed individuals (which also should not be an issue), and other bullshit stuff to give the movie a negative review. I plan to see it. After the initial "DEY TOOK ERR JERBS" type of nonsense reviews, I can just take the movie for what it is in my eyes.
I read the book and it's a good read. They should have just left it alone.
Patrick Todd corporations haha
Dlastkatipunero they've got to make that 💰
Yea. Like I wouldn't have minded if this was actually good or faithful. But they changed so much from the book that it was almost unrecognizable.
omg it was awful and I read consistently
Mr.2ndAmendment you think the book was awful?
Let's agree on a director with a consistent running streak - Ryan Coogler
Fruitvale Station was very good, yet heartbreaking.
Creed was an outstanding film that respected the Rocky franchise while embracing the new name
Black Panther was a film that a handful predicted was gonna be great, and it wound up being a stellar entry in the MCU.
Ryan Coogler has been on a roll.
Christopher Nolan
luke brown Nolan has filmmaking flaw. Every (most)ending of his films are bad.
Christopher Nolan
Denis villenue
Of course Disney would be the ones to ruin Ava Duvernay's good streak.
I can tell this had way too much studio interference with "visuals and style" being pushed before substance. Which has sadly become more common in these recent live action Disney adaptations.
James Burgess I don't think that's fair with Disney, they have done a pretty good job with Star Wars and most MCU films, plus Pixar's constant success.
Steve Rogers They just own those properties, they don't have actual involvement besides hiring the head of the companies. They run independent from Disney Pictures company, the ones responsible for the recent, very good animated movies (non-pixar), but the not so great live action movies.
That sounds like the opposite of Disney honestly. This should have been in Disney's wheelhouse. Sweet, cute, heartfelt. Disney usually does that, I don't know if it's Duvernays fault, but I can't completely absolve her.
James Burgess or maybe she’s just not good enough to handle something of this scale?
Ebenezer Bhaskaran it's afro American, just American women period
Whose actually excited for this? I'm just waiting ever so patiently for the second infinity war trailer.
MetallicNole I actually am tbf
aises hand
This was one of my favorite fantasy novel series when I was a kid. Yes, I liked it better than Narnia and Lord Of The Rings. Go ahead and laugh, that mental image of all the people dressed the same, doing the same things, talking at the same time? Terrified the out of me. I also liked the idea of a "final battle" won by love instead of a laser fight. Looks like this one goes on "wait until it's On Demand", which is where I feared it was heading when the Christian aspects and much about the younger brother were suspiciously absent from the trailers (the younger brother is a big deal in the books).
And yes, it's fantasy not science fiction. That's especially more obvious in the second & third books.
Second Trailer where Thanos Throws a Moon!
Parents with 7 year olds
I am in fact extremely excited for this movie.
I just finished watching your review for The Hurricane Heist where you said you watched these two films back to back and now I'm watching your reviews back to back. COINCIDENCE??????
...Yeah, probably.
Our last hero lol! 😂 Me too!
Our last hero I THINK NOT!!!!!
I need see heist I think I'll just wait for the cam lol
As someone who cherished this book, I wasn't sure if I would like this. Your review pretty much summed up the doubts I had from watching the trailer, so I will definitely pass on this one.
Ian M but what about Harry Potter and To Kill a Mockingbird
Yeah this movie was pretty disappointing... There wasn't enough meat in the sammich! It's just like..oh.. We're here.. Ok.. Now we're here.. Ok.. Oh.. There he is.. I love you.. Roll credits.
Monte Marino that's kinda how the book felt to me too. It's a really short book, and made for kids, so the characters just kinda flitted from place to place.
Kathryn Singer I actually never read the book... Rally thought the book would be much better. It has so much potential as a story ya know? Could be Such an awesome world!
Yea the book was loads better. And I know people hate the 2003 film but it was way more faithful to it than this film. And they spent more time in each place.
T.E.C._1 that's good to know, I actually haven't seen the first one... I've been trying to find it
Monte Marino Just look up A Wrinkle in Time 2003 film.
Everyone wants a Tron trilogy.
You look so high in the thumbnail lol but you'd probably need to be if you're going to see this movie
fordis2 nah if anything acid 😂
I could so tell this would suck. It was just blatantly obvious throughout the trailer. "Aimless" is a good word for it, I remember it took a few watches to realize what this was about. Somehow, people were excited. I remember when I saw the first Valerian trailer, I saw the crash coming from miles away, yet people were hyped up for some reason, then same with Legend of the Sword, then this. No idea why. There's literally nothing exciting, interesting or captivating, except for the song and some visuals here and there.
Isle of dogs is coming out soon, please review Fantastic Mr. Fox
Matthew Osman its one of my favorite movies. I just wanted to hear his opinion on it.
Soooo basically...Interstellar did the time, space, and love thing better?
Ok, now we know that Disney can’t do much with Time concepts.
❌ Tomorrowland
❌ A Wrinkle in Time
Milmiskew ✅ Minutemen
Although dr strange had some time fun lol
John Carter too.
I actually really enjoyed Tomorrowland a lot up until the 3rd act and then it started to change tones and became kinda boring and confusing but I still enjoyed it, idk about this one...
Yup, I definitely want a Tron movie as well. Plus a restart of that sweet Tron animated series that aired on Disney XD. When it came to A Wrinkle in time I knew from the trailers this film was going to have issues. Will see it but I'm prepared.
If a trailer doesn't grab me, I'm probably not gonna see the movie.
The trailer for this movie, didn't have me biting at all. I don't know if it just looked uninteresting, or if it was appealing to a genre I just didn't care about.
All I know is that there are some really dogshit movies out there that can still sell me based on a trailer. Even if I still end up walking out of the cinema thinking "I don't know why I expected Transformers 5 to be any less dogshit that the other 4 movies".
Honestly I never was a fan of the books so when I saw they were making a movie...I didn’t have high hopes. This movie is like looking at pretty wedding cake and then when you take a bite you realize it’s burnt all the way through.
My wife is a HUGE fan of the novel. I went to see this movie with her and was practically dying from the horrible editing, pacing, dialogue and acting (visuals were great, but in this day and age great visuals are expected). When the movie FINALLY ended, I was dreading the inevitable conversation I was going to have with her and feared upsetting her by saying I didn't like it.
Thankfully, she hated it just as much (if not more, because of all the changes and missing pieces)! Unfortunately for her, she was so hyped to see this movie that she previously scheduled a night with her friends to go see it next week... now she regrets doing that! XD
Level 6 rogue vs level 60 dragon was such an amazing analogy for that situation. Love the reviews!
Still waiting for that first Awesometacular of 2018.
We'll probably have to wait till the 25th of April.
RP what’s coming on April 25
Hairl TabbJr94 Starts with an "i" and rhymes with "serenity whores"
I predict NO awesometacular's in 2018!
Hairl TabbJr94 it also Tyne’s with the surrenders
Critic Quest oh I forgot thanks for reminding me
Have you watched Jessica Jones Season 2?
I don't have Netflix
Mysterious Person Get Netflix than free month trial
Mysterious Person oh it's out?
Eddie the Head yup
Not as good as season 1 imo
I'm going to read the 1962 book. I hope the book will be worth it
Had to read A Wrinkle in Time for school back in 5th grade (coincidently 10 years ago). While I remember appreciating it’s trippy premise & creativity, I also remember being confused and bored by the book’s messy narrative and character arcs.
Kevin Petrak 👏👏👏
"level 6 rogue versus a level 60 dragon" - Jeremy, you had me flashbacking to my WoW vanilla days when I was questing in Redridge Mountains, wandered too far into the Burning Steppes and got eaten by a "level ??" whelp lol
It’s okay. We still have Shuri
Jeremy wants a Tron Trilogy?
I’M NOT ALONE!!😭😭🙌🙌
I remember reading this book in 6th grade and hating it. Afterwards, I even wrote an essay on why no student should have to read it. Mind you, this many years ago, but if memory serves, it had something to do with the outlandish and downright confusing plot, which even simplified in the video still makes little to no sense; the unrealistic characters, especially the little boy being way too smart; and the anti-climactic ending in which the older sisters keeps stating "I love you" to free her brother from the giant brain. Look, I am all for crazy adventures, but if children have to read books about other dimensions, aliens/monsters and the power of will, give them Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, or Percy Jackson, or something that is far more entertaining in its esoteric or bizarre way. The book seemed like it was the fever dream of a Mary Sue type character who imagined a paradise where her distant/ estranged father came home, her little brother was respected for his smarts and her crush was actually into her.
Again, it's been years, but I didn't see any value in reading the book then other than boredom and confusion, and I certainly don't see any value in it now. There are far better means to convey morals like "don't judge a book by its cover" or "embrace individuality".
If I can take a guess, the movie probably stuck to the book relatively well.
Dark Rush I wholeheartedly agree. Plus, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a great book!
Actually from what the actual story is from the movie compared to the book it appears that they actually made it worse
I had forgotten how borinv the story was until I saw the movie. By the time I was two books into Percy Jackson, I tried to read this and saw no point.
I love Jeremy's thoughtfulness, especially thinking of the kid actor and the fact that he might be watching this. Overall tastefulness of review is solid as well
I want a Tron trilogy too :(
Jeremy: I want a Tron trilogy.
Me: Amen to that. I thought I was the only one.
There is a petition to make Tron 3.. not sure if it's still active
What a flop. Called it back when I watched the trailer.
I love how you and the other guy who reviewed this, Chris something, both referenced m night in different ways. Y'all are in sync
Yay
Are you planning on reviewing the rest of Rebels? The finale was amazing.
Gabriel Atom 4 years of my life ended. They may do a spin-off with Asohka & Sabine. I need some Rex too
Canon EU < Legends EU
Abel Ruiz I wouldn't say that cloning the Emperor various times is good storytelling...
Gabriel Atom I agree but there are problems with both versions of timeline. The flaws aren't enough to ruin legends for me. You should look into The Old Republic characters and stories.
Abel Ruiz The Old Republic and Thrawn's trilogy are amazing, and they're the only Legends stories that I like. Old Republic has Kreia who I'd call one of my most favorite fictional characters in general.
Looked like shit from the trailer.
cody gossett
It was shit all along. That's why Hollywood worked SO HARD on pushing this. Everywhere I looked, they were talking about this movie. All I knew about it was "that movie with Oprah".
I'm kinda glad it's shit. I'm not gonna see it for sure, but I like it when Hollywood pushes a turd and then it fails. Serves them right.
MisterCovek such a sweet victory when they push a Turd like you say and it fails 😂. Very well said.
cody gossett especially the discount Alice in wonderland shit costumes
Like what the hell
MisterCovek Technically it didn’t fail sense they all got payed thousands of dollars, they probably got payed from this movie along more than what we make in a year. In the end they still win and you gripe.
cody gossett Technically it didn’t fail sense they all got payed thousands of dollars, they probably got payed from this movie along more than what we make in a year. In the end they still win and you gripe.
I knew it’s wouldn’t be good from the acting in the trailer. I’m so glad I subbed u cuz u be saving me money.
He saves us all a lot of money we should send him a present!
This movie is based on a book that was required reading when I was in 7th grade. Don't remember much other than it was a weird book. And that I didn't really care about any of the characters.
Marie 👏👏👏
I don't think we watched the same trailer. I could tell by the trailer it was going to be a shit movie.
The problem with this movie is they didn't get the right director for the story, instead they got the driector that will help push their political, feminist agenda. But that's Disney for ya, just look at star wars
I read the books (yeah its a series) and I was only ever excited for this movie beFORE I saw the first teaser. Everything you said in this review is exactly what I knew Disney was going to do with it. The books are dark, emotional and eerie and filled with awesome science. They're also very wondrous. Every detail is beyond intriguing. These CHILDREN are tasked to go through parallel universes and freaky dimensions. KIDS. The adults couldn't do it. The daughter used to work with her father on his theories so she knew all about what her dad might be going through. It was terrifying for them. He didn't leave them. He disappeared and was stuck somewhere in another dimension, helpless. That is terrifying for a kid to find out. I mean for FOUR YEARS your dad has been trapped somewhwere that nobody you know or have ever heard of knows anything about. They couldn't trust anything they saw or anyone they met. I knew from the trailers that Disney didn't capture that at all and I'm legit pissed the fuck off. For Disney to take this incredible story and turn it into that bubble gum crock of shit is just disgusting.
Yes, Jeremy, yes !
We need the third TRON movie to complete the trilogy !
I mean Rinzler became Tron again after he "sacrifice" himself by colliding with CLU 2.0, Quorra is now a human/program/ISO hybrid(?), the son of Edward Dillinger (Cillian Murphy) is one of ENCOM's board member that got trashed (i think) and probably pissed that another Flynn humiliates his family and so on...
Don't forget that awesome soundtracks by Daft Punk !
I need that third Tron movie in my life.
Honestly, I read the book and I despised it so I gave it a second chance by watching the move...
I walked out about 15 minutes in.
Congratulations on 1.4 million subscribers!!
The trailer was so cheery and bright but my memory of reading the book as a child was that it was pretty scary at times in the atmosphere of it all at least. It doesn't surprise me that the end product didn't quite excite audiences. If they took it more in the direction of something like that tv series "Stranger Things" I wonder if they could have saved it.
R Now I’m wondering what they did with IT, if anything.
could you do a downsizing review ?
Agneta Juodenaite it’s trash there you go
"Fear leads to rage, rage leads to violence..."- Oprah
"God help us all..."-Me.
Oh man I just saw the movie and your review took the words right out of my mouth. I desperately wanted this movie to be a memorable Disney movie classic because it has so many actors and actresses that I love and respect unfortunately the second I walked out of the theater I completely forgot what I had just seen.
I totally and completely respect your opinion, and, going one step further, I agree with a lot of what you said. Personally for me, I finished the book this morning and went to see it today and I think that helped my appreciation of the movie.
Who else wants a 3rd TRON movie!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR This!!!!!! The book was too good to be a movie tho:(
SwaggyQuaggyNerdy Vids wasn’t there already an older movie?
If there was i didn't know about but ill google it
Yeah but it was 15 Years ago and i think it was bad 2
The older movie is definitely better in terms of staying true to the book. It's corny but it's actually charming and more faithful to the novel.
I remember I had to do a book report on this in middle school but I never finished it because the front cover had this centaur with wings that just crept the hell outta me. I tried to read the first chapter but then Yugi'oh came on, so umm yeah..
Agreed. Completely. Thanks!
It’s boring!
CatACor as someone stated before, in the movie's defense, the book it's adapted from is also very boring and suspenseless.
I never understood A Wrinkle in Time. I've read the book for school multiple times, and I got conned into watching the tv movie. It's weird as balls but without a reason to be that way. It's a bland book. Why is it so popular?
No idea. The only Madeline L'engle book I like is Many Waters, but I would hate for that to become a film because it's a bizarre book.
Dr. Sick I feel the same way. The plot is very underdeveloped and the characters don't really have a presence within the pages.
I enjoyed the movie from the perspective of seeing one of my favorite childhood books come to life, but I agree that there was a lot to be desired. There was a a scene right near the end was cut out which was a good character moment for Meg, and would have drawn out the "thing" that happens to Charles Wallace and wouldn't have made the ending feel as rushed. Interestingly enough, movie Charles Wallace was pretty close to book Charles Wallace, including the "this is it, kids" line when they're about to leave Earth. I did appreciate some of the nods to things that were cut out, though I'm sure at least a couple of the references would have seemed pointless or would have been missed by anyone not familiar with the book.
The fact that you along with a lot of people I know (including me) want another Tron movie makes me respect you even more
This was so obviously going to be shit
An acid trip in time.
Are you going to review “Love, Simon”? I love your reviews!! 😊
Lv 6 Rogue vs Lv 60 Dragon. Yup, that's life.^^
This is like the time when david lynch got a big budget for "dune".
"From visionary director..."
Oh shit, I just fell off my chair!
Reading that makes me think that the movie would’ve worked with George Miller directing.
Totally agree!
YES JEREMY THANK YOU FOR ASKING ABOUT THE TRON MOVIE WE NEED THAT INSTEAD OF THESE KIND OF MOVIES
Just waiting for Infinity War.
U R A True critic 👍
Could you do a review on the animated movie The Breadwinner?
Tron 3 NEEDS to happen. The world building in “Legacy” was excellent. If we can just get a slightly more written plot along with the pre-existing great cgi and graphics, I think the 3rd movie could be a box office success.
Didn't see that coming 😒
The book was so much better. I love the book, the movie did not do it justice.
I agree with you Jeremy. This movie just did not grab me and I felt the same way about the little kid. They were expecting too much from him and he was just not seasoned enough to deliver what was needed between him and his sister in order to drive the movie home.
This is actually a remake. There was another one that was a TV-Movie that came out in 2003 that also didn't do as well. I honestly didn't know that until earlier today when I was at a DVD Store. I was looking around and saw it on one of the shelves . I was like " Wait, there's an original? Huh, I guess they're remaking everything nowadays." It was actually pretty ironic since the new one came out today.
Ooooooooof
In the movie's defense, the book's plot was messy and unfocused as well.
Sounds like Madeline's book An Acceptable Time lol.
Leilani Pigatt thank you! Someone finally said it. Sometimes people forget that an adaption is restricted by how good the source material is and how faithfully they want to adapt it.
Yes
Kathryn Singer Hardly. "The Lord of the Rings" was considered "unfilmable" once as well. The Harry Potter books were considered hard to adapt as well. Stop making excuses.
Jerome Maida yea, but the problem is that those two book series were hard to adapt because they were so involved. The plots were very full and the stories spanned a longer length of time. LOTR/Harry Potter had too much good material while A Wrinkle in Time had too little. It's easier to to condense than build up for adaptions.
I love the book and I mean love and i was very excited about the movie.. but i felt bad.. It was beautifully shot but it failed to capture the wonder of the book. It's hard though, books have the ability to be so descriptive which is why I loved the book so much..
Dude I love your reviews.. you seem like you'd be awesome to have a few beers with
Oprah Whitney ... No thanks
Litty Aquiti oh yeah she’s related to Adele Dazeem right?
I saw it... the camera angles were all over the place. The movie looked like a Kodak commercial. It was quite pretentious. My daughters 7 & 10 did not enjoy or understand this film. It’s a Disney flop
Honestly, both the book and the 2003 movie had me confused as hell; no clue what was going on but maybe it's because i was too young for it. I'd probably try to pick up the book again, but i've a feeling i'll still be as confused as ever
The trailer for this version looked nice for the most part, but you're right, it didn't really stand out (to me, at least)
"A wrinkle in... I'm not even going to." - Jeremy Jahns 2018
I’m getting the feeling that this movie may have also missed the Christian influence that the book has. I mean, I only _just_ read it for the first time, so I’m no expert, but that’s just the vibe I’m getting. Like perhaps Ava Duvernay bypassed the entire point of the book in favor of a diverse cast.
thats hollywood in general, bypassing the entire point in favor of a diverse cast.
harasnicole books You can have racially diverse Christians. All thanks to Imperialism :).
Nicholas Maslennikov not sure if sarcastic or ignorant...
Serge Chvorun Me neither.
Nicholas Maslennikov well at least your not so serious.
For me, every movie is awesometacular with a bit of weed 🤣😂.
You wouldn't remember it in T-Minus 1 Blunt.
klystron2010 Yeeeeeaaaaahhhhh... already forgot, dude.
I don't know if this is quite what the movie did, but the book also had a lot of cool mindbending visuals but not much of a focused plot, so some of these criticisms of the movie apply to the books. The books do have a lot of sci-fi time and space elements to them which it seems like the movie didn't cover though
Came to see his review and yes, I'm still excited to see it and I will see it
You could tell this movie was going to suck right from the trailers. And who is the target audience? Kids are not going to watch this. Adults aren’t going to watch it. I smell a flop for Disney.
My family really wants to see this movie, but I don’t... I want to see Black Panther, but they don’t... the struggle is real right now
I read the book. This movie are very different from the book. Calvin needed some more personality. I was shocked that the creature Whatsit transforms into was different from the book. The book describes it to be a centaur like with wings. They went with a different form. Evil villain was comical in this movie. In the book he is darker character. There was another movie they did in 2003 that was closer to the book. I a feel like I like that one more.
Thank you! I want a third Tron movie too!
