@@vinny4223 that’s what I’m thinking!! No sense keeping you foot in if you know you are moving right to avoid Bottas and going to have to touch the grass.. or the paint..
Bottas was driving the dry line, just watch Kimi's view. Russell needs to learn that overtaking does not mean a leading car gives him the best driving line
Russells first time in a Mercedes last year kind of proved it's the car not the driver, but the fact he can challenge Mercedes in a Williams suggests he has the driving skills too... I think this was after they'd spoken to Toto because they both diplomatically accepted they weren't perfect while still pointing out what the other driver did.
to be fair, Bottas was at the middle of the track for a second Edit: I NEVER SAID that I got Russel's part in this incident. Keep this in mind if you are going to reply to me because I got way too many replies lately and I can't reply to everyone with the same lines over and over again
You can hear how the wheels start spinning just before Russell hits the grass meaning it's likely an instance of aquaplanning instead of the presumed slip on the grass. So IMO a race incident.
@@kidShibuya How. You don't want a roof because that blocks how the drivers get in and out of the car, and a windscreen isn't strong enough to achieve their targeted goals.
sooooo many fatal and career ending incidents have been avoided thanks to the halo, the haters can go off into their corner and look like idiots if they want to at this point
We'll need more footage. Out of what I've seen, this was completely Russel's fault. Bottas was following the dry line and left him enough tarmac. Absolutely no reason for the car ahead to give up his dry line for someone trying to overtake.
It's a racing incident, nobody is really at fault. George however did lose it slightly before hitting the grass, and you can see if you put it on 0.25x speed, Bottas defended and did nothing wrong. It was slightly georges fault but he was on a wet part of the track, the track was still drying too so overtaking isnt easy, you can see by the numerous amount of drivers spinning and losing it and that including Perez and Hamilton
@@Kostasoflow You can literally see bottas stay on the dry racing line the whole time. There was no moving over, an even if so it was only a few inches. He is in front of the other car so he gets to chose where to put the car before braking anyway.
At that speed and in those conditions, no matter the homilies from Senna, Alonso and others, you don't take chances. _Both_ drivers effed-up. Bottas couldn't see Russell in his mirrors anymore so he _knew_ Russell was pulling along side and he should _not_ have moved from the left of the track AT ALL. However, Russell over-reacted to being squeezed and moved at least a half a metre further over than he needed to, on to the grass and ....
George walking over to Bottas immediately to blame him instead of checking if he’s okay made me lose a lot of respect for him, no wonder Bottas gave him the finger...
Crofty on TV was saying "oh look at the driver comraderie, going over to make sure Valteri is Ok." and any idiot could see no, he was clearly going over in a huff to tell him off. Which is laughable since the crash was at least half Russel's fault. He's the one on slipped. Bottas was merely doing legitimate racing moves. Russell failed to keep his car under control and slippery grass is no excuse. If the grass was dangerous, then don't pass there. Simple. He opted for a risky move with no margin and it bit him hard. But yeah, blame the other guy. Nice.
@@LatitudeSky honestly, imo, BOT defended slightly too late. Really don't think it was smart of him to turn right, albeit slightly, and squeeze RUS into the grass, **especially** in such wet conditions. If he defended while RUS was still behind (and not beside), I'd totally agree with you.
@@dotnuts I think Valteri was mainly following his racing line. the cars affect each other also when you draft and pull out last second and shout acroos the track. i like both these guys but I blame Georges abrupt move out of the slipstream onto a wet track. thats what made him lose it.
George was frustrated to the point where he smacked a guy who he himself just seconds ago had put into the wall in 200 mph +. Horrible behaviour. Skysports casters did their best to defend him. I lost lots of respect to the guy. Incidents like this can be most often explained by inexperience, but that reaction is just George's personality. I mean it's like something mazepin would do. Hope the man can prove me wrong though.
@@dotnuts maybe his defense was 0.001 seconds too late, but valtteri isn't going to just give him a position no matter where in the overtake george is. the weirdest claim i see people make on youtube is that bottas should just "know he's going to be overtaken and give the position up". that's easy to say when you've just watched them both collide. both of these guys want the position. valtteri's defense was a legal and valid defense of his position while leaving more than enough room, and george hit the wet grass in slicks and lost it. then george hitting valtteri's helmet is a bad look. i understand the adrenaline and you feel slighted but like, come on now, you're all adults...

@@sicmagic5429 he didn't mean to get onto the grass. He misjudged the gap and overrracted to the sudden shift to the right which resulted in him going to the grass. In another similar scenario from the previous year on the same spot. I think it was lewis trying to pass leclerc and the same thing happened. But lewis was able to accurately judge the space between leclerc and the grass went for the gap. Its a matter of experience really. Russell lack the experience in judging the amount of gap.
1:02 russel pushing for overtake and bottas swerves right forcing russel to turn a bit right and his tire looses control on the grass so its actually bottas’s fault
Can’t help it but, I read that last line in Toto’s voice. Pretty sure this was not done on purpose, but can’t deny the huge benefits Lewis got from this. Lewis doesn’t make mistakes often, but many times he does, it doesn’t turn out to be as costly as it is to others. For example: in Germany 2019 Bottas and Hamilton both spun in identical fashion, and even though Hamilton already made a mistake in the last turn before (which resulted in the 1+ min pitstop) he still got into the points. Bottas race was ended after just 1 spin. Got to say though, Bottas days with Merc are most definitely numbered.
@@outsidepool4131 I think Bottas moved a bit, which scared Russel, but Russel never looked in control of that overtake, he looked very unsteady. I think if it was anyone other than Bottas and Russel, the person in Russel's position would be blamed.
Correct. I also noticed (playing at 25% speed) that immediately after the spin started and before the car started to spin he seemed to have driven the front wheel ever so slightly on the grass. Not saying that had anything to do with the wreck, but I wonder why he went that far over. He had plenty of room to his left to not go that far right, I guess it's because everything happens so fast in real life behind the wheel.
I know I'll get a lot of hate for saying this, but I can see Russell's ego getting uncontrollably big with Mercedes. Despite his clear talent, I can just see him being really difficult once he's in that car and his personality seems to me like someone who will be dangerous and extremely arrogant once he starts winning races.
I think Russell and Verstappen will be taking each each other out every other race if they're in cars that have similar speed, cos both have massive egos.
@@likeagenieinabottle1591 I don’t think Verstappen has an ego. I just think he’s willing to take risks more than other people. He’s certainly not arrogant or anything.

Valtteri did not move to the right to block Russel. He Moved to the right to stay in the dry line, Russel was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't think you can blame Valtteri for this.
He did move to the right. His argument that he left plenty of space would have made sense if the cars were side-by-side, but Russell was pulling out from behind Bottas, and you know (certainly if you've been racing long enough to reach F1) that any steering input you make while a car is pulling out from behind you will lead to the car behind needing to put in much more steering to avoid a crash, because you're so close together.
@@rjfaber1991 imo he already was side by side with bottas and was in full controll of his car, then he just clipped the gras and spun it. I cant see any sudden steering jsut from the onboard of russel, which could have caused a spin. but i have to say that i am a mercedes fan, so might be biased :/
@@jstnici6624 i've watched it a few times over now and if you watch from around the 15 second mark you hear George's car spin up before he even hits the grass, the sheer power from loss of traction will have caused a spin, especially with the rear more than likely clipping the grass before the front at this point.... then i watched it again from the same time marker and didn't look at the cars, i looked at the ground, the dry line is edging out to right, i saw Bottas change his steering angle leftwards after realising there was no space for George... that's my observation anyways, i'd personally mark it as a racing incident as both probably thought they had it covered and both made some form of error.... realistically, if George was gonna overtake anyways, he could have just waited.... but that wouldn't be no fun to talk about now would it? :)

well george was the one who caused the crash, so i guess thats why he got the merc seat
We'll need more footage. Out of what I've seen, this was completely Russel's fault.
Bottas was following the dry line and left him enough tarmac. Absolutely no reason for the car ahead to give up his dry line for someone trying to overtake.
Bottas actually moved over making George go onto the wet... I blame bottas on this
Bottas moved left very slightly

Palmer: great teamwork
Bottas was such a gentleman about the incident, even after being unjustly attacked by Russell. A mature man.

Notice how the revs of George's car goes to the limit before he hits the grass. It was the wet part that took him out of control, not the grass
