  • Heading home from Reno, Nevada, I decided to take a side trip to Comptch for the Volunteer FireDept Fathers Day BBQ
My drive back from Reno took longer than anticipated so I arrived at the BBq as it was closing down. Still got to buy a bag of BBQ chicken to take home and caught up with some good friends.
Driving from Ukiah to Comptche via Boonville Road (also known as CA-253) is a scenic route through Northern California's picturesque landscapes.
CA-253: Turn right onto CA-253/Boonville-Ukiah Road. This road winds through the coastal mountains, offering beautiful views of rolling hills, forests, and vineyards. The road can be narrow and curvy in places, so drive carefully and enjoy the scenery.
After approximately 15 miles, you'll reach Boonville, a charming small town in the Anderson Valley known for its wineries and unique local culture. This is a great place to stop for a break, enjoy some wine tasting, or have a meal.
From Boonville, continue west on CA-128. This highway takes you through the lush Anderson Valley and into the majestic redwood forests.
As you near the town of Navarro, look for the turnoff to Flynn Creek Road. Turn right onto Flynn Creek Road and follow it north. This road is less traveled and offers a peaceful drive through forested areas and rural landscapes.
After about 10 miles on Flynn Creek Road, you'll arrive in Comptche, a small, quiet community nestled in the redwoods.
This drive covers approximately 45-50 miles and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and stops. Be prepared for winding roads and changing weather conditions, especially in the more mountainous areas. Enjoy the journey!
