In 1993 I was 21 years old and had been living in Bondi for 2 years already! I wish I had the gumption to go exploring then. This area is so beautiful Gabriel thank you for showing us!
What a magical place! When you mentioned it on the last video, I watched your video from before….really awesome! Pine trees. Mountains, fresh air and hot pools! Yes!
OMG - it's shocking to see what the fires did. The little cabins were so special - under a blanket of big mature fir trees. The trees are all gone! Looks like the bath houses were burned down as well. Extremely sad - but I'm glad they saved the big hall or whatever it's called. I think you forgot to mention how good the food is. First time in my life I had tofu and LOVED it. My favorite pool is the silent pool that you were able to film. Soaking and listening to the river = pure heaven! BTW - I met Dan Milliman (spelling?) at Powells - I've read The Way Of The Peaceful Warrior several times - but I must say I like the second book, can't remember the name, where he is in Hawaii. Thank you for filming as much as you could of Breintenbush. It's almost unrecognizable.
My first experience of Breitenbush was in 1982, a workshop with “Ecotopia” author Ernest Callenbach, where I was also introduced to the struggle to save the region’s old growth forests. I became involved with that movement, which took me back to Breitenbush a number of times. It was a center of old growth activism, one of the gestation points of the movement which indeed did shut down much of the old growth logging. I haven’t been back in a number of years, but I am glad to see the recovery from the fires.
Dear Gabriel, i know that you were in my small hometown Sremska Mitrovica ( SIRMIUM ) Serbia to visit a royal palace if i am not wrong, and it was closed... I want to invite you again if you have time to visit and hopefully i could show you a little bit more! The best time to come is a summer or spring! Great video once again, keep making those great videos! All the best
Yo.Gabriel. Craig the smart guy with a smart job here;) You mentioned much about future plans. How are some of your creations coming along. Certainly you will have good comments in support every cause. It's already been a blast seeing your old stomping grounds. We expect the gnashers works goes more smoothly than ever for you. That you are happy to get going again to wherever you want to go. How do you do now? It's 10th April 2024 Wednesday UK 5pm.
Call before you go if you want to soak. Need a day pass. Lodging options as well. Note, they do fill up in the Summer and host private conferences and such so make sure you get reservations! Amazing place.
You can ramble on as much as you want, love your stories! Absolutely beautiful area, shame about the fires, but there are still a lot of trees remaining and is lovely and green. At least the main lodge survived. We get fires in Australia and know how devastating they can be, especially for wildlife as well as the environment. Thanks for showing this beautiful little piece of Oregon. Enjoy the hot springs. 😊❤️
I so enjoyed this video. As an Oregonian I have been to Brighten Bush many times but did not have the heart to visit lately due to the fire damage. I live in Salem and managed to only get as far as Mill City one day but the devastation was just too sad to see. I do remember hearing the news that the lodge was spared and we were all over joyed to hear that. It looks so different there but all of us that love the Cascades we are thankful that it will come back and people are rebuilding. ❤❤❤
HI GABRIEL! I googled hot springs near me and your video popped up. REMEMBER STAYING THERE TOGETHER IN THE BEAUTIFUL OLD CABINS IN 2008? You beat me at scrabble!😘.
I ended up working in Jasper National Park from 2008 to 2014 which was a great area. Unfortunately it just burned down, so won't be going back there anytime soon. And I love the Greek islands so that's somewhere I could imagine living. But for now I'm traveling pretty much full-time.
Hi Gabriel, an amazing retreat I'm sure you have many things to contemplate. I do think many places don't like too much publicity for reasons that visitors might overrun these locations and cause havoc while other places feel like they can't get enough visitors. The strange thing about fires is they rejuvenate the forest they provide regrowth you can see some deforestation on the premises but I'm sure that's all managed by replanting and reseeding.
Looks like such a cool place. These establishments should pay you for the promotion or at the very least give you the accomodation for free. Throwing this place on my bucket list :)
Go to a McMenamin's and watch a movie with a beer and some good food. There are a bunch of them and they're all unique. You could go to one of the restaurants or you can even take food and drinks into the movie theaters.
“ badly damaged by the fires of a few years ago”. Let me rephrase that…. DECIMATED IS MORE LIKE. This area was one of the last great stand of old growth tree forest in the PNW. The environment is SLOWLY recovering. It use to be one of greenest freshest, wildest stunning places on Earth. Now, ugh, I can’t even go back yet. Thanks for the video. Also, the Land grab for old growth trees was excessive. Don’t be fooled. Breightenbush profited greatly from this land grab money maker. They are always crying broke. Now the prices, $178.00 a night for a cabin? No way.
Hi Gabriel, I really appreciate what you're trying to do for Jacqui. I hear that oxygen therapy can be really effective for brain injuries. I think it will be worth Jacqui looking into that possibility. Hyperbaric chamber can even be rented.
Curious if you have ever been to Harbin Hot springs in N. California? They too were hit by wildfires awhile ago and been rebuilding. Another beautiful place run by community.
I’m heartbroken looking at the deviation from the fires! I’ve been there many times and in the late 90’s I did a weeks working interview in the kitchen at the lodge. Unfortunately, at that time, there wasn’t enough housing to live there even though I was offered the job. It’s a magical place for sure.
Oregon is beautiful along the coast. If you ever go to NJ, visit Swaminarayan mandir, incredible, like a tall cathedral, sculptured marble up, down, all sides, nothing like it in US till now.
Adult / teen (age 13+): $35 per pass, $14 per lunch* Youth (5-12 years old): $20 per pass, $10 per lunch* Child (0-4 years old): no charge *Adding lunch is optional - you’ll make a selection when you book.
I notice the Pinebark Beetle is killing Lodgepole Pines in Oregon, was in Rocky Mountain NP last summer and they are hit hard out there. Coincidence that I'm heading to Glenwood Springs next week, think it costs $59 for access to all the pools, not sure if that is the full day or just a 3 hour time slot, think 3 hours.
Hey Gabriel, I spent a lot of time at Harbin Hot Springs in Northern Ca. in the 1990's, (long before its wildfire destruction and re-build). Breitenbush reminds me of Harbin...I wonder if you have ever gone to Harbin and if so, how would you compare it to Breitenbush. If not, then check it out. I cannot speak for it today, but when I went there it was less expensive and meals were more flexible-they had a small market and a restaurant that was optional. So, ever been to Harbin? Has a similar vibe to Breitenbush...but neither place is Cappadocchia 😊
Yes, I've been to Harbin a few times. I think Breitenbush is a lot nicer, more pools to choose from of different temperatures and I like the setting more.
I don't know why, maybe it's because the weather seems quite gloomy, but the place strikes me as a great setting for a horror or mystery movie. I'd feel kind of uneasy to be looking round there at this time of year. Spooks me.
what is that irritating grating noise in the background? it sounds like he is dragging around a metal ladder, too distracting...However, it is good to see how it has recovered from the fire. I remember the early eighties when it was just a bunch of us hippies having work parties up there and having the time of our lives! So many communities coming together to help, I can't even remember all of their names. I tagged along with the Folly Farm. Do they still generate their own electricity from the water wheel? Did I miss that in the video?
I love getting out in nature, camping, outdoorsy stuff. But I just find this a little bit weird. I think it was the "there was a didgeridoo music group thing going on." And all the mention of meditation and stuff. Each to their own, everyone has their own likes and interests, Im not putting anything down. Just mentioning how I feel for I dont know what reason. For me, nature, getting outside is about being adventurous, energetic, having a beer at the end of a long day of some sort of excersize, with singing and patying. This place sounds like it has too many rules for my liking.
Brightenbush is an old hippy commune--the early hippies learned to get their legal rights to maximize their profits. They are aggressive in their management style--they rule the place with an iron fist. The rules are overwhelming, but you follow the rules or get the hell out. I was never comfortable there.
In 1993 I was 21 years old and had been living in Bondi for 2 years already! I wish I had the gumption to go exploring then. This area is so beautiful Gabriel thank you for showing us!
This man deserves millions subs and views never stops!
Such a beautifull area. I love pine forests. The smell and in the summer the ground with ferns and all kind of moss.
All for, hemlock & spruce. No pine
Those mosses are magical, beautiful nature can handle itself,it recovers from the fire successfully!👍
What a magical place! When you mentioned it on the last video, I watched your video from before….really awesome! Pine trees. Mountains, fresh air and hot pools! Yes!
I used to go annually for the reiki retreat! Love the way nature restores ❤️
❤
Dude I use to work there !!! What an Amazing Place to be and Live 🤙🏼🤙🏼💯☀️
Sweet, that sounds like a great experience. 👍

The second book was great as well, he actually went to the island of Molokai, which I went to recently.
Beautiful green nature
Wow! Breitenbush is almost unrecognizable from its previous incarnation. Thanks for this tour.
Another Awesome Adventure Gabriel Thank You🙂❤👍Watching from NB Canada🙂😊

I see why you live in the northwest of the USA...is so gorgeous 😍
@dougbarker2227 I live in Louisiana and we don't have sequoia trees or snow-capped mountains 😕
Beatiful nature love it! ❤
Such a beautiful place!!!
I'd love to go there!
Haven't been here since before the fire. Glad it's still there. Wonderful place.
Love Oregon 🏕

I can understand why it's one of your favorite places in the world, gorgeous nature, serene ambience, lovely ...
Very beautiful
Big ski resort up here in NH called Bretton Woods
I love the platforms to use a tent on. It looks really nice there.

Cascade mountains Some of the best hops in the world are grown there I believe 🙏
Not in the Cascades, but west a few miles in the Willamette Valley.
Very interesting area hope you're enjoying your time there
hey Gabe! you're in Oregon, why not visit the Thor's Well. It is in the coast near Captain Cook Point.
Gotta day this hit hard! I have not been up since the fires😭I know things will come back better than ever💚💚💚
I've been living in OR and WA gor the past 20 yrs.and still never went to their hotsprings. I've been to many, and now this is a MUST
Hey nice video! Those CRVs are great for exploring Oregon’s natural areas
cool! didn't know you lived in Portland that's where I live
I don't live there now, but I did from 2002 to 2009.
What about returning to El Salvador? What a great destination. I could easily see you doing a month plus there.

Wow, the fire did so much damage but it's beautiful there.
Hi Gabriel,
I'm going to Portland Oregon next month. What should I definitely visit or do?
Go to a McMenamin's and watch a movie with a beer and some good food. There are a bunch of them and they're all unique. You could go to one of the restaurants or you can even take food and drinks into the movie theaters.

Hi from Arizona🌵
👋👋👋👋👋👋
Nice one
Thanks.
There used to be concrete tubs and changing area down the river bank from the lodge. Are they still there? They were the main hot tubs at the time.
Yes, the spiral tubs are still there.
