  • In this episode, we meet up with our buddy Dean Graen and he walks us through his solid axle 2005 Toyota 4Runner! There are less than 20 straight axle 4th gen Toyota 4Runners in the US and we found a good example of one with someone that is pioneering the setup.

Thank you for this! Great stuff.
I appreciate what you've done here because you've helped me decide against replicating what you've done here. It's what I thought I wanted and it looks like an absolute blast, but seeing it put together makes me realize my priorities are more in the crawling scene, so I'd rather specialize for cheaper.
It's my first time modding a vehicle and I've been researching for months, you alone have given me the exact info I needed to figure out exactly what I want to do.
So, again, thank you so much! You've gained a comment, a like, and some respect :)

Toyotas are famous for there legendary strength in the 8" solid axle...I've seen them survive with 35" tires, lockers, and a good driver. Pound for pound one of the best axles. I had a set in my flat fender, and caught alot of crap but rarely caught a sweat changing axles..crazy...

Is it street legal? - no way would pass here in Oz.
How does the solid axil feel to drive? Does the truck track at speed on the tar?
I dont want to know the cost, but interested if it was cheaper to start with a standard vehicle and modify, compared to picking parts and makin a ...crawl-runner.
