That was one my favorite builds, first vehicle bead a Jeep. I’m blown away at what he has done and his knowledge. Keep him close by on desert trips. Huge fan of the Cherokee
The analogy with the broomstick was a great way to tell people who are just getting into off-roading or even just into vehicles, it helps them visualize with an everyday “tool” most people have in their house.
What an impressive build, when he mentioned the hood louvers on his old Jeep I’d almost be willing to bet I own that Jeep now! it’s got some good size hood louvers
Broom handle analogy was great. My XJ has drop brackets from Trailmaster from 2000 when there wasnt much aftermarket available. Its been through jack, sledge, claw, outerlimits, wreckingball, upper johnson and its held up grinding over rocks. My jeep needs TLC and I think I will steal some of your front suspension modifications.
i have a 96 xj and i noticed your air box gets its air from the front hole. people don't know there is a cut out you can get fresh air from behind the light. there ie a cover you have to unbolt 2 screws to remove. i use a old vacuum attachment to fill in the gap. glad to see im not the only one who found that.
Hi! Greetings from Portugal! Love this build!! I´ve been for years saving money to build a XJ but more like a IFS ultra four style 4wd because we do a lot of hill climb! But this build is so simple and practical and it looks so fun to ride!! Congratulations for this awesome XJ! Keep up!!!
Really interesting and different build path for this vehicle. To see a straight axle 2wd prerunner with the spring and shock separate as well as a floating foam bump stop.. never seen one built like this but I’m a Toyota fan so I don’t know much about XJs. I can tell a lot of thought and design went into this and the information on a build like this is very scarce. Interesting to see how he arrived at the choices he did.
Im no chassis engineer but the way i look at it yes there is another pillar but it is very narrow and not that strong. it also has 2 huge openings where the doors are that in my mind allow things to flex. i think of it like a soda can with 2 holes cut in the side vs 4 holes cut in the sides. the one with more holes is going to be way easier to crush.
Yea Un Sprung Is like the Money that Keeps going outa our Accounts to Up Grade PreRunners , to the next Level , But Everything needs to GO !!! BIGGER tires Bigger Holes needs Bigger Suspensions needs Bigger Knuckles Bigger Breaks , Bigger Sway Sticks next to The Bigger Bouncy Sticks
Ok, everything is fantastic and surreal (for me here in Italy everything is impossible even to think) but .. what kind of fenders are those? (They don't seem to be the Notch Customs).
I prefer the 4-door because I like having passengers and you can say what you want it is easier when there is a back door for the passengers to get in instead of them having to climb through my door but the 2-door does look good as well if it's a square body Jeep Cherokee I love it no matter how many doors it has
James.. Since you're an RC fan, can you pleeeease do a video on a Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) Prerunner build like Ivan Stewarts 94 PPI Trophy Truck.. I remember seeing a Tacoma garage build with 19 w/t using IRS 6-7 years ago at Pismo and it blew my mind.
not a bad theory but the way i look at it a 4 door has more openings where no sheet metal is connected and therefore allows more flex. im no chassis engineer but a soda can with 4 holes is easier to crush than one with 2 holes.
@@Hucker2.1 i think c pillars have alot more structure than a sheetmetal quarter panel take off the sheetmetal then think about the core structure 4 door smaller opening smaller holes vs 2 door having 2 less structural pillars but a cherokee is basically an indestructible soda can so anythings possible
@@CodySnell_87 haha like i said im no engineer so i could totally be wrong but that was my theory. I have also only seen 4 door XJs with all the doors removed have the body fall apart.
What's the deal with solid axle vs I beam vs IFS when it comes to 2wd? He said that swaybars are difficult to do on beams, but I assume there are other driving dynamics factors to consider, as well as ease of construction and simplicity of maintenance factors, too. So what's the deal?
I have a 98 montero sport and I love this truck and I wanna turn it into something street able but able to blaze trails, where would I start? Please like this and comment I'm completely new to offroading and I need all the help I can get. Nobody makes adjustable upper and lower arm kits for it btw
can someone explain please prerunners are RWD only then how are called those trucks that are 4x4 like those on king of the hammer or those are rock crawlers but they also race in desert its comfusing for someone who dont know mutch about this sport not gonna lie thx for answers
We just bought one actually. It’s Nelson’s XJ that he built on the Hoonigan channel. He bought it back after selling it and we’re going to build it up.
Don't know if the owner will see this but Justin, and chance you'd be willing to share your valve stacks? I have something similar, also with 2.5 bypasses (and even prothane bumps!), and am always curious about valve stacks for vehicles that are working well like yours. Not a lot of info on short-ish wheelbase, solid axle, 1:1 ratio shock valving. I think I'm pretty close to having mine how I want it (perfection is always just "1 more revalve" away, right? Haha), but I'd love to see what's working for you. Thnx
Nice build! Do you know what the travel numbers are? I'm thinking of doing an xj or grand cherokee build and wondering what kind of travel is possible. It seems like the front would be limited to around 12" with this setup. Thx, love your vids!
this jeep is at 12.5" in the front and 13.5" in the rear. its possible to get close to 14" up front and 24" of rear travel but that gets super duper custom and expensive.
The unibody sucks but the 4.0L with some smart cage work and "frame" plating makes XJs really awesome. 2Drs are SUPER rare. Even being a Toyota guy I love my XJ I inherited from my Dad.
I got so excited for a new video then realized I watched this video earlier today 🤦🏼♂️ at least it’s a cool and humble guy not another truck bro with deep pockets and the show truck they claim too dirt, the flat brim hat over the ears and huge lens sun glasses. Please don’t feel attacked lol
I steel-it my front bumper. Did it in gray which came out awesome. It really on there and bonded to the metal really good. You can also weld thru it if you ever want to add some tabs or somethings and later you just spray over it. Worth the price imo.
We need more “affordable” home built builds like this one
Affordable and any vehicle you abuse for the most part don’t coincide
That was one my favorite builds, first vehicle bead a Jeep. I’m blown away at what he has done and his knowledge. Keep him close by on desert trips. Huge fan of the Cherokee
We’re having him help us with phase 1 of our Cherokee build
Perfect man for the job! ⚡️
Love my 4.7 stroker xj

Instantly relatable to anyone who's ever spent time pushing a broom.

Impressive! Title should include, “Price Gouging Companies Hate This Guy!”
Rode with Justin in his xj out at KOH this year and my jaw was to the floor couldn’t believe the holes we hit and how fast we hit them in an xj!
More XJ’s please! Love it
So knowledgeable about his vehicle! He did his work for this jeep!
I had rewinded this clip over and over again... Bc it was just so much information! Awesome my dude!!
You guys are the reason, why I own a 1:10 scale trophy-truck. Keep on making vids! It's awesome!👏👍🤙
The dude interviews well, awesome video!!!
I wonder if Justin scared anyone during a ride along. His driving is intense, and impressive.
If you watched till the end you will see James shaking in the preview of PART 2
@@terra-crew LOL totally missed that. I know how James felt haha.
I have a 93 XJ and this is the perfect guide for build mine (I hope so).
the motivation i need to do this to mine since it’s 2wd
I've followed this guy on Instagram since before he started. Love it
The wait is finally over!! I've been waiting too long for this beast!
U could tell dude loves his build , I respect that . Lots of on par knowledge!
Thanks for doing this video. I have owned so many Cherokee's and always wanted one like this. Can't wait for part 2.

is it a white 4 door manual 4x4 with over 300k miles and a ford 8.8? oh and damage from being attacked with a tractor? lol
😂nope guess not.. but them louvers though,

The only thing I will say about the front arms is long arms majorly reduce the caster change through the suspension cycle

That Miata though lol! Didn’t know if that was an F35 or what with all that aero.
i havent watched the video yet im justcommenting on the thumbnail... YES we need more solid axle prerunner trucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve been wanting to do a build like this but with a WJ Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 and 4x4
I’m not the only person hella jealous he has carbon fibre on his bumper

I happen to have a 94 Cherokee two-wheel drive two-door from Florida no rust and a 4.0 ho engine they are very rare

This Thursday!! It’s going to be a banger.
THIS THURSDAY!
Don't you mean "Another" Ranger build?
How do I get more pictures of that hood latch system. I order some for mine but want to see where and how this was installed?
Wait. Why would the 2-door chassis be stiffer than the 4-door??? I figured it would be the other way around due to an added pillar

I bought his old one ton steering set up for my Cherokee.
Big inspiration for my xj build.
Agree 💯 on the motor mounts. I have a built xj and my favorite mod is by far my motor mounts by filthy addictions off road.
I'm also learning from this one. It also that high speed hop like the Jeep 2wd straight front axle Cherokee pickup.
Matt's Off Road Recovery has Corvair hood vents .
Not much to critique about that jeep. Well done! Well thought out and purpose built.
Cant wait for Part 2!
Look into it my 1974 DJ5 Has the same axle and it's 2x2 .O and i have a 94 Jeep Cherokee to!
