I've had my P127 since mid-spring of last year. Several things I've noted: 1 - I also don't like the rod tip protectors. their edge shape tends to cause hang ups. and even though I reshaped them to get rid of that, like you, I quickly noticed that if you run anything on your sidetracks, it causes interference issues, so if I even use those horizontal stagers, the rod tips stick outside of the kayak protectors. 2 - The factory scupper plugs are janky. The slightest bump from your feet will cause them to break seal and let plenty of water in. I make my own with rubber stoppers and paracord, with a stainless washer on top, as a stop. 100 percent foolproof. 3 - Seem no matter how much I adjust the tension on the rudder spring in air, it DOES still deploys slowly, in water, like you noted. some sanding of the sides may be in order. And don't be surprised if the rope comes lose in the cleat, when transporting. 3 - Getting the second seat screw aligned and run in becomes a PITA, over time. I don't know if there is frame flex involved or what. 4 - Bonafide should've gone with full length line steering guides, instead of cheaping out with those stupid little ends that, as you've already experienced, work loose and gum up your steering. 5 - Get yourself some cutting board material to properly space out one of those paddle holders, move it up front to the sidetrack, and use it to hold the front end of your paddle, while the back end is held up by your Sidekick. Much easier than the factory paddle holder and bungee. 6 - If you're a bigger guy like me, that single space for a 3700 tacklebox, behind the seat, becomes almost useless, when sitting, thanks to hull flex and clearances. I got around it by fashioning some spacers out of pvc pipe, riveted to the seat frame underside, lifting it up just enough to add a little extra clearance. 7 - Someone needs to come up with an aftermarket front keelguard. That nose is really pronounced.
J This is solid feedback. I'm working on finishing up 3d printed seat risers that should free up a few inches of space under your seat. I did notice that Bonafide was selling an aftermarket spring.. but when people were asking questions about it in the comments.. they didn't respond on where they could purchase it. I'm going to take a stab at the keel guard with a Kydex option. I like your POV. I'm going to pin this.
I was really torn betwen the Bonafide P127 and the Slayer Propel Max 12.5. I ended up with the Native but honestly only because they cut me a really good offer on it that saved me enought to buy the landing gear and add a Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv. From what I can tell, you really can't go wrong with either. I haven't had the chance to hit the water yet but I'm stoked to have it in the garage to tinker with and can't wait to get out on the water.

Great review. I've seen and read so many reviews. Looking at options, pro/cons, the overall... I think I am still going with Old Town. This bonefide is nice and the peddle drive is nice, I really like that it is personally serviceable. Thanks for mentioning that as for me is a very big plus one for me. Also the seat design ,lack of internal storage, and the price for the oldtown is less. Great review, I appreciate that you speak of the issues you've experienced is really helpful. I like all the mounting tracks. Those can be added to kayaks, so I don't see that downfall of Old Town to be a deal breaker. (Not really sure why they didn't design them with more mounting tracks). Great video. I'm looking to get a kayak in the future. My top 3 are native titan, hobie pa, bonafide p127. The one thing that bothers me is that I think native and bonfide could do is take the hump out of the floor to make it flat when not using the peddle drive. I like to stand and fish so that where the hobie has those two beat in my book. I will be demoing all three this summer.

A great boat for fun or fishing. Any trip on the water is one less trip to the pharmacists. It does have a seat cushion, but will opt to get a little better one. For a base angler kayak, you can't beat it.
Love it D. She's a battleship. I watched Chad review the 2021' new model. Can't wait for your new Ideas, DIY's and add-ons. I built my crate, from your diy vid, and have loved it. Not a fan of the black pak either. Nice, but they're heavy and bulky. You'll love that extra space on that boat. My buddy replaced his rod tip holders, with nice starboard strips. I did install two paddle clips along the side, with the factory paddle bungee strap on my kayak. It sits out of the water, and secured. I'm 5ft 7" 155, and also love my deck dry. I can stand and cast, just about anywhere, on my boat. I also love the exercise on the water. No gym needed. My mirage drive, and the paddle is a must. I do run my J2 Bixpy, for long runs, and plus I have a pacemaker. So it's an extra mode of propulsion for me. I'll always get back to my launch spots. Good luck bro, awesome kayak and walkthrough. Can't wait to see your setup vids in progress. You're like me. Everything has to have a place, on the kayak. Lol. 👍 🎣🙏
Right on Anthony! At $175.. well someday.. but not when I have a perfectly good DIY kayak crate with a lid which is what I love the most. Show me a blackpack with a bungee lid.. and then you got my attention.
@@wendellfishing exactly! I bought one new crate, three new rod holders, and some hardware. An old crate cut on the table saw, for my lid, and storage on top, if needed. Black spray, sits in my tank well, leaving room for other accessories, landing gear, etc. Under $30.00. Still looks new. 💯 🎣😎
Sweet rig! The spirit of Zoffinger told me to cut your existing rod tubes in the shape you described, you'd only have 1 upper hole on each side to deal with. I wish Bonafide did a 10' pdl; looks like the only "non-beavertail" that you can store laying down in the garage, and move around without a cart/horses.
Thanks for the review. Appreciate the time you spent. You’ve come along way since we talked about the xfinity rods and where you fish in Ohio. I’ve been steering towards the oldtown pdl because of price and so many videos and reviews. What do you think about the pedal drive handling for this boat. Seen a video that said it was noisy and felt rough.
Hey boss, I have heard a lot a of great things about it... however, I have never been in one before. All I know is that the Bonafide P127 is a sick ride and I have grown to really love it. Built like a freakin rock and tracks like a dream.. not only that but the Propel drive is built like a battleship.
Nice review! I'm more leaning toward a Hobie due a fin drive in Ohio weedy shallow waters. Bonafide are nice , Chad is about them. As for my Tamarack Pro , the scuffer holes are oversized and hard tried the right plugs never tried golf balls yet. But the hull is always dry.
Liked your walk threw on the p127 some of the things you talked about I agree with and some of the things I already did like I have tracks on my hatch to hold 2 ff and a camera also I don't like the rod thing up front I never lay my rods down so I took them off and like you I much rather had tracks there and yes the brake down of the paddle I did not like I keep mine together and ready to to use. good video. I have an auto pilot 136. and i love it but it is huge. i am looking at getting a 2nd kayak that will slide in the back of my truck. i have been looking at the native like you have. My question is about the stability of it. how does it compare to your bonafide. And do you have any other 10 foot yak you would recomend?
To be honest Mark... I'm not going to pretend to answer this for you. All I know is that I consistently stand up and fish in my Native Slayer 10 and I really like the stability.
Great breakdown of the kayak. I am curious why you went with the Bonafide P127 over say Vibe Shearwater, or perhaps the Old Town Sportsman 110/120 PDL? Both those kayaks would have been cheaper than the Bonafide, and have tons of great reviews.
Thanks Adam, to be honest.. I found an incredible deal on this one used.. it was only used once and would have been cheaper than any that you mentioned. Also, I'm a HUGE fan of the Propel Drive. IMO there is no better instant reverse Pedal drive on the market..
@@wendellfishing Ahh, well grats on the great deal. I have the OT Sportsman 120 PDL and love instent reverse. Being a fellow Ohioan - Hope to see ya out there. 👍
The under-seat bag comes standard with the 2023 models. Those tracks under the back of the seat and the rear of the seat sliding around would bother me. I looked at different videos and that even puzzled the One Objective guys. But Bonafide doesn't mention it in any of their videos. Surely someone has brought it up before. But that platform under the seat willl hold one 3700 or two 3600 boxes. But it seems like they are only accessible from the rear. Other than that, it looks like a sweet ride. I know you will enjoy it. You'll need to do a follow up video once you get it all set up for some serious bass slime.
Good to know on the bags.. Wonder if they will throw them on the P127 even though they are not coming out with a new PD model this year. The problem as you already know on the under the seat 3700/3600 box storage is that unless I have 4 joints will make it difficult to reach.... and the bigger issue is that most people will run their sidekicks as close as they can get them to the center of the boat making back access to that point impossible. I'm still thinking on some options for under the seat slide drawer. Even if I have to build one.. I will make it happen. But yes... a sweet ride indeed.
Thanks Preston.. Instant reverse is probably the most polarizing difference between propel drives and fin drives. Other than that... They are easy to work on and keep maintained which is something I personally like as I like to work, maintain, and be able to fix everything I have. I actually have a 5 part video series coming out soon on the Propel Drive System. I also know many who are very happy with their mirage drive as well. However, mirage drive come on kayaks that are currently out of my price range as all of my kayaks are from FB marketplace.
@@wendellfishing ahhh, thank you for the answer. I can imagine instant reverse is very useful. However, when it hits a structure (log or rock) underwater, isn't it dangerous? or isn't it break your kayak easily? The way you use it in the video (unlocked the pin on shallow water) resolves my concerns completely? many many thanks !
@@prestonghim748 You got it...when I run it in standing timber or shallow waters. I release the lock and when I hit something.. it hits the guard before the propeller. But when I hit something.. I'm usually going pretty slow.

I don't think I can fully answer that without being a full season in the 12. I think I will like them both for different types of fishing. I can already see how the P127 is going to be a difficult adventure fishing rig
The P127 is nice... but for the price, I think it's very overly expensive. I just think there's so many other kayaks around $3000 or less that have better features/less drawbacks.

4 - Bonafide should've gone with full length line steering guides, instead of cheaping out with those stupid little ends that, as you've already experienced, work loose and gum up your steering.

@@adamlowe6213 Right on Adam!
@@wendellfishing I meant to say standard with the P127. And you can buy them as an accessory for $99.
@@tennesseekayakfishing5691 👀 $99.. hot dang... I'm going to DIY the crap out of that under the seat storage.
@@wendellfishing 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good video, could you tell us why you chose propel drive over mirage?
Would you still recommend the P127 even with the options out there today? Namely the Titan, the PDL 120, etc?
I freakin love the P127.... I own a native propel 10 and would choose the P127 any day. I just put a Nk180 on the stern. Can't wait
Hi, what are you doing bro?, I wanted to ask you if is there any way to tight the propel drive in case flipping... Also if you had the chance to try the kayak in chopy offshore conditions.
Yes on choppy.. handles well. The drive latches in in case you flip.. no issue
Thanks. I am going to start selling in Spain. Excited
Sugru / mount go pro mount anywhere. Great video.
Thanks boss!
Im hesitating between thos and the old town sportsman pdl 106. Do you have thoughts on that one?
Never been in a Sportsman.. but man.. it would take a lot to get me out of the P127
is it possible to flip those rod holders on the front of the kayak? I'm wondering if bonafide accidently put the rod holders on backwards
I think I'm following but my buddy has one as well and that's how they come. I really haven't thought about it much considering I carry my rods either in my crate behind me on on my Omega Pro's
It may be covered in the comments, but will that rudder plastic pull, slide into the gear track?
I tried to put in in any place it would reach but the pull was pretty fat. Not a huge deal... but I like everything to have a place. My wife is a saint :)
Can this kayak be mounted on some J style kayak mounts on the roof of the vehicle or is it just too large/heavy?
It's pretty big for j hooks
Any updates on the seat risers? I’m currently using blocks of wood for seat risers messing with the height to see what works best.
Hey Matt... Just finished these up working with 3D Yak. These are done and they are awesome. Head over to facebook.com/3dyak and he will hook you up.
@@wendellfishing thanks!
@@gatorbait702 No problem... happy to help
Would the rudder be out of the way enough to use this kayak on a river?
Really depends on the depth right?
@@wendellfishing I guess what I’m trying to determine is with the rudder stowed, if I drag bottom, will it damage the rudder?
Bro... I'd like get one yak like this but here in Brazil it's very expensive to buy from US.
Bummer man.. The shipping would be insane
Do you like a 10 foot overs 12 kayak??
I don't think I can fully answer that without being a full season in the 12. I think I will like them both for different types of fishing. I can already see how the P127 is going to be a difficult adventure fishing rig
Well i was thinking about this one and now with your review not so much...
Well.. I don't work for Bonafide so if it helped ya.. then it's a win
Is this video sped up? Seems playing the video at .8 speed the audio and video is normal.
Not entirely sure. Was edited a while ago
The P127 is nice... but for the price, I think it's very overly expensive. I just think there's so many other kayaks around $3000 or less that have better features/less drawbacks.
I don't know if I would even attempt to argue with you there. I do know that I would not be in at full retail.
For $3100, it seems like they failed on quality control on that boat. How does ride?
Being in it for this season.. it's a solid boat and I would highly recommend it. Rides and fishes like a dream.
It takes a football field to turn I sold mine it took 6 months to sell
Right on Robbie. What did you end up with?
@@wendellfishing Kaku Zulu they are out of tarpon springs I got the trolling motor Xi3 a lot cheaper than old town I had the Zulu a couple of years ago paddle straight and you can stand the seat is the bomb my picture is the paddle iam still rigging mine just bought it last week

You're moving the camera around way to fast.
Thanks for the feedback.. my camera was giving me trouble this day and the stabilization was not working correctly. Fixed
Hey bud why you just go to the 12ft Native propel
Ha! I was influenced..... Wanted to see what Chad and Gene was up to in Bonafide land. That and I got a REALLY good deal on it used. Like. Really really really good deal from a fellow kayak angler who only used it once.
