I'm getting a system modded with the 3D bios startup screen, so it will be nice to see this one for a change. I can see how some may think the devkit startup is tacky, but the music makes me think of saturday morning cartoons as a kid, it's a cool little tune. I prefer the minimalist startup, but I like both.
Did you know: Shoichiro Irimajiri said that the red swirl in the dreamcast logo symbolized the origin of power. The Logo is a blue swirl in the PAL Regions which likely would have been done to avoid legal conflict with the German Publishing Firm "Tivola", whose logo prominently features a red swirl.
The last console for sega... Sadly it was the first descent console for the company. Dreamcast was the first console that did everything right without need for extra components and add-ons. It was so good. For the fortunate few who have the console still today I recommend to keep it alive because Dreamcast took with it a whole gaming era... Excellent machine.
saturn was an excellent console if you were Japanese or you knew how to import japanese games the mega drive was also the company at its peek and the system went toe to toe with the snes the dreamcast I dont even need to explain the master system is still being support in regions like brasil

Maybe it’s that late 90’s-early 2000’s aesthetic that was so popular back then? Like the “water drop”-like sounds in the opening of the US/EU consoles? Or even the magical song to the later console openings? I don’t know. Either way, I love it!
Along with what thenewmannumber1 said, a big part of why it failed is because of what came before it. The disastrous Sega CD (a Genesis add-on that didn't add much to games beyond FMV capability), the even worse 32X (Another Genesis add-on, which Sega of America made without permission, not realizing that Sega of Japan was TRYING to work on the Saturn), and the Sega Saturn (which, while not bad in itself, was released too early in order to try to beat the PlayStation 1, frustrating developers who were trying to get launch titles out, along with ultimately having its planned main-series Sonic game (dubbed "Sonic Xtreme") cancelled) failing all in rapid succession meant that no matter how good the DC was, it had a heck of a lot of debt to cover that simply wasn't possible. Made even harder by the disillusioned-by-then fanbase who were sick of shelling out piles of money for every single new installment in Sega's then-frequent hardware releases.
It didn't have a DVD player, which the PS2 had. Also, it was released too early. On the other hand, the Dreamcast were basically pioneers on online games in consoles.
*sniff* don't make me cry, specifically with the customized BIOS startup logo... really sounds like SEGA really cares about consumers' satisfaction, but also feelings...

Got my DC January 6th, 2000 as a late Christmas gift and I remember booting it up for the first time and thinking that this was the future and it was truly next gen at the time. Like seriously. Going from PS1/64 to Dreamcast was just a sight to see and at the time there was truly nothing like it. Imagine if it never failed, we'd probably be on DC4 by now. Imagine DC with an SSD and a AMD CPU/GPU, with like 12 Tflops. Maaaan if only if only.

No backwards compatibility with saturn, PS2 Could with PS1 which lead to even more games than dreamcast and saturn combined.

Got my DC January 6th, 2000 as a late Christmas gift and I remember booting it up for the first time and thinking that this was the future and it was truly next gen at the time. Like seriously. Going from PS1/64 to Dreamcast was just a sight to see and at the time there was truly nothing like it. Imagine if it never failed, we'd probably be on DC4 by now. Imagine DC with an SSD and a AMD CPU/GPU, with like 12 Tflops. Maaaan if only if only.

Devkit boot should have been the retail boot animation, and the retail boot shoud have the devkit boot animation. Makes more sense.

If the dreamcast were a success this would be the main startup on dreamcast consoles made in 2002 and 2003 and so on.
