I always felt like the PS2 startup was a weird, sentient abyss that you're sucked into, and the little lights were will-o-wisps ordered with showing you around by their eldritch PS2 shadow lord. The world itself filled me with despair and forlornness, and those little will-o-wisps were the only source of comfort, yet I knew they were only doing their masters' bidding and I should not entrust them with more information than I would want to hand to the PS2 overlord itself.
Plus with the fact that you can combine them by inserting a PS1 game in a PS2 and I believe this is possible due the PS2 having 2 BIOSes. One is the PS2 BIOS and the other is the PS1 BIOS so you can use backwards compatibility. This also means that PS2 does have the weird "errors" from PS1 but just not accessible since the PS1 BIOS only appears when a PS1 disk was inserted but you cannot use the BIOS menu from PS1 nor can you see the first startup chime either. I grew up with the ps1; however, the ps3 sound just put me in a whole new world. The glossy black mega system with the orchestra tuning on startup was fantastic. That's how you knew you were about to play a new generational game.
Exactly, everyone overlooks the PS3 for nostalgia and says PS2 is the best, and think PS3 has got to be my favorite, I remember playing gran turismo with my dad late in the day, I’d wake up in the morning, the sun shining and turn it on to hear that beautiful violin, it’s my favorite no matter what’s next.
As someone who was born in 91, the PS1 intro resonates with my soul like nothing else. It still brings back that incredible feeling of excitement I used to feel when booting a Spyro, Crash, or Final Fantasy game.
It’s by far the most interesting. It’s a cool mixture of futuristic and spiritual, like we are heading towards a future that is not bad, but is yet so alien that it cannot be described in terms of we are familiar with in the present.
The PS3 startup was a childhood man Looking back at it as an (almost) adult it makes me tear up and wish for a return to the simpler times Also the sound of the orchestral symphony tuning/warming up is probably one of the best touches they could have made, as if the console itself is warming up and preparing itself for hours upon hours of play
PS3 was dogshit and all of us OG fans know it. Lmao we certainly all collectively hated it when it came out, Sony was being too cautious and not giving us a more weird-low/high-pitch distortion sound despite a lot of fans asking for it.
The PS2 was the console I played the most as a kid, but hearing the PSP intro gave me a wave of nostalgia like no other. Everybody remembers the PS2, but you barely see anybody talk about the PSP anymore.

I don't have the happiest and healthiest life at the moment, and it's gonna be a long term/chronic situation(t1 diabetes, otosclerosis, tmj and probably ibs) . We live in my ex grandma's house(she passed away with my granpa 6 years ago) and...when i Walk around my house i "see" me as a kid, Happy (unlike now), roaming to the house, memories starts to hit me, i remeber the week-ends, the days passed playing ps1 (games like bubble bobble, crash 3, Spyro 3, medievil, crash team racing, Rayman 2) with my cousin, the days my mother took me to Kindergarten and to school, how joyful and ready to explore life and maternity, and i remember how much i was curious about the world, how everyrhing was new and amazing, and that warm feeling of protection at the end of the day. I miss everyrhing, i miss watching vhs on a tiny fucking TV, i miss zapping TV looking for 2d cartoons (and not 3d or digital stuff like today), i miss my grandparents and my dogs, i want to tell them i'm sorry for being neglectful, that i loved them and i miss them. But i can't. I look my mother's face and i realize she's getting older, that one day she's gonna die, and i will too, i will grow old and die. the startup of the Ps2 will always be the best for me. 1:32 This part feels like we're entering some kind of underworld. It's a strange feeling, but very good.
I was raised with the first PlayStation. I played some good games back then and still have strong good memories of them, hearing the sound of the boot is something I can’t describe. The feels, the memories… all together bring me back to the late ‘90 when I play those games. I continued with the play 2, 3, 4 and now the 5, but the memories of the first and his games are much stronger
"The PSX is a Sony digital video recorder with a fully integrated PlayStation 2 home video game console. It was released in Japan on December 13, 2003" i got this from google
My grandma got me one for christmas(half black half Japanese raised in the us went to see grandma in kyoto for christmas) the psx was fine persay it wasn't great but it was a great beta for the ps3
1 & 2 are almost like the sounds from dream I had years ago. How much I miss those days. And the both PSP & PS3 openers are another tug on the heart strings. One that reminded me of my formative years. Funny feeling nostalgia, isn't it?
No, it's not. The startup was specifically designed to loop, if there was an issue reading the disc. It was a way to tell the user that something is wrong. This design choice came from the sound engineers when they were building the PlayStation's BIOS. That design philosophy carried over to the PlayStation 2. The disc did not contain any data that had the startup.
The PS1 sounds take me back to the mid to late 90s. Waking up at like 3am on a Saturday sneaking into the living room to play a game or demo disc. The PS2 sounds take me back to the early to mid 00s to play some SOCOM or EQOA or a GTA game after school.
Old Ps sounds were just a Pianist getting killed and falling with their head in the Piano Keys. Edit: I Remembered now, but PS3 is almost the same, but the Violinist dies instead.
Oh the nostalgia is powerful here. Man I remember booting up my PS1 every time and just hearing that startup sound filled me with joy. The PS2 was also a great generation of gaming and to hear that startup takes me back to the days me, my brother and my dad would just sit on the couch and beat the crap out of each other in Tekken or shred some songs on guitar hero. Those were the best times and I miss those days 😢
Can’t only be me that gets emotional and tears up when the ps1 start up kicks in, takes me back to the good old days of been a kid, Olympic soccer and teken etc. good old days.

It’s by far the most interesting. It’s a cool mixture of futuristic and spiritual, like we are heading towards a future that is not bad, but is yet so alien that it cannot be described in terms of we are familiar with in the present.
The PS3 startup was a childhood man
Looking back at it as an (almost) adult it makes me tear up and wish for a return to the simpler times
Also the sound of the orchestral symphony tuning/warming up is probably one of the best touches they could have made, as if the console itself is warming up and preparing itself for hours upon hours of play
Something about the ps3 gave it a classy premium feel including that unique orchestral intro. PS4 never felt as good
Agreed every time I hear the ps3 startup I feel a wave of nostalgia wash over me and wish I could be a kid again

PS3 was dogshit and all of us OG fans know it. Lmao we certainly all collectively hated it when it came out, Sony was being too cautious and not giving us a more weird-low/high-pitch distortion sound despite a lot of fans asking for it.

I'm 23 and it's been a couple of weeks i'm realizing this. I'm depressed by all of this, by this lack of warmth and this drives in me suicidal thoughts, but at the same time...i don't want to lose the good memories i have, even if remembering the good times Is so much painful.

fun fact: the ps1 game startup screen is an anti piracy feature
The ps2 thingy that plays when the dvd isn't bad, is on the dvd too
No, it's not.
