As a Chinese American this old guy has really nothing on you. My mom would love to talk to you in Mandarin and Cantonese. This guy can't seem to respect your talent of speaking this many languages. He's jealous and wants to act superior.

I think the restaurant owner outplayed Laoshu in every language they tried. I don't speak all of them, but Laoshu struggled more than the old guy for the ones I did understand.

Very rarely did many peoples meet other peoples that were different, so a lot of the time, societally there was a rejection of that which was different from them. I mean hell, the racism amongst, and between purely the Asian races alone is intense to this day, it's ridiculous, but slowly starting to develope past that. Mainly the older generations are the ones, as with all cultures, that hold onto those ideas as that is all they've known. Going by the display name, I would assume you're Asian as well, and not just a random name generated. It's not going do be everyone's in the entire world's experience obviously, however it's still a thing that's common. Atleast things are progressing past that sort of thing everywhere somewhat, so that's always good.
People like this old man are why I can't speak my native language. I'm shy so it's discouraging and embarrassing when elders criticize you for not being able to speak the language correctly 🥴. He said 私はねちょっと東京20年泊まるでしょ。or "For me, a little bit Tokyo I will stay 20 years right?". So much is wrong with this. 泊まる is used to mean stay at a hotel or when visiting a place. でしょ is used to seek agreement or when something is mutually understood but how would a stranger know your past living experience in Japan? Then he randomly said 姉ちゃんはね神戸に... or "my older sister in Kobe...". Not sure why he didn't finish the sentence or what was relevant about his sister in Kobe. If he lived in Tokyo for 20 years there's no way he would suck this bad at Japanese. He should have said 私は20年間東京に住みました。But his Japanese is not perfect. In fact it sounds like he only knows a few sentences. Even though the guy making the video is very beginner level I would say he was making more complete sentences than the "20 year" veteran speaker.

@@darko6899 my girlfriend is Russian, she doesn't hesitate to say when something isn't correct. You can bumble through 2 dozen languages but it doesn't mean you can "speak it." His Russian is the same. He has some vocabulary and his grammar is OK (the most important part) but pronunciation can affect how intelligible you are.

@hd31 What does any of this have to do with what he said? English being the most difficult language to learn is debatable. Adding to that if you can understand me then we both know English. Just because mine is a different dialect and I have a different accent doesn't mean I speak "broken English," I speak American English. Even if we were to say British English is real English and all other dialects are distortions of it, which dialect of British English, since there are so many? Even if we could peg down a particular dialect of British English the idea that any dialect could be the correct form is debatable.

ya... but he made up new time frames for how long he'd been learning the languages... 2 years for mandarin? in earlier vids he's said that he's been learning it for 10 years... french for 6 months? there are older videos than six months of him speaking french... i like his vids because he connects with ppl but he has an ego for sure. he also needs to learn more material other than the same damn lines he always says. another thing i've noticed is that he mumbles/speaks softly so that the native speaker can't quite hear his pronunciation, deeming it good when really, and in the case of this vid where the speaker actually critiques his accent, it's not as good as it should be for learning it for over a decade. that was the old chinese guy's point. especially when he said that lao probably couldn't go any "further" with it, meaning he probably couldn't have an very in depth conversation with someone in most of his languages. he should really focus on a few languages and get them into the conversational level where he can freely express himself. also, why the fuck hasn't he ever been to china?!?!

I'm working on several languages at once as well and all I can say is... Man, you are a good inspiration. Not only for the black community but for every community out there. I hope someone sees your videos and feels driven to learn more about other people. Learning cultures and languages of other people shows that - sure we have our differences, but they are minuscule in comparison to the common traits we all share. Just because mine is a different dialect and I have a different accent doesn't mean I speak "broken English," I speak American English. Even if we were to say British English is real English and all other dialects are distortions of it, which dialect of British English, since there are so many? Even if we could peg down a particular dialect of British English the idea that any dialect could be the correct form is debatable.

he lied, i think the only languages he can speak are like english, canto, mandarin and maybe abit of japanese..in fact canto is more of a dialect than a language.
This guy has built a persona around being well travelled and well-spoken, that is why he is lying (imo) about how many languages he speaks and his travelling experience. Laoshu challenges that persona so that is why he is so defensive.

ya... but he made up new time frames for how long he'd been learning the languages... 2 years for mandarin? in earlier vids he's said that he's been learning it for 10 years... french for 6 months? there are older videos than six months of him speaking french... i like his vids because he connects with ppl but he has an ego for sure. he also needs to learn more material other than the same damn lines he always says. another thing i've noticed is that he mumbles/speaks softly so that the native speaker can't quite hear his pronunciation, deeming it good when really, and in the case of this vid where the speaker actually critiques his accent, it's not as good as it should be for learning it for over a decade. that was the old chinese guy's point. especially when he said that lao probably couldn't go any "further" with it, meaning he probably couldn't have an very in depth conversation with someone in most of his languages. he should really focus on a few languages and get them into the conversational level where he can freely express himself. also, why the fuck hasn't he ever been to china?!?!

I'm working on several languages at once as well and all I can say is... Man, you are a good inspiration. Not only for the black community but for every community out there. I hope someone sees your videos and feels driven to learn more about other people. Learning cultures and languages of other people shows that - sure we have our differences, but they are minuscule in comparison to the common traits we all share. Life would be boring if we were all the same.
