I just want to also add that it’s humbling that you are so friendly to people who struggle to communicate with you in English, and yet, in one of your other videos...your ability to speak Chinese “correctly” was insulted. I’ve already learned different languages just from working with people from different countries. I took French and Latin as a kid, so I had the ability to understand that different languages say things backwards or more simplified or even more complicated than in English. I could talk with a French speaking person and understood 90%+ of what they were saying, my only issue was figuring out how to say back what I wanted to say. I used this base level of understanding to help me learn Tagalog, and then Spanish, and then some Romanian, and some Amharic from some Ethiopians, I’ve dabbled a bit in German, and lately I’ve been picking up some Russian from a friend. It’s really not that hard. It just takes some willpower, a decent memory, a lot of practice, and then everything else comes with time.
Big Bless to you and your family Moses/Laoshu! Merry Christmas, and keep on levelling 🆙

I spent 5 years of school (Jr. High and High school) Learning Chinese. I fucking love the language. the only problem was that they taught us how to read/write more than how to speak/listen so I could read at a somewhat decent level but when it came to speaking in a conversation it felt like I didn't even attend the first day of school. But now that I'm out of school I have more free time to learn Mandarin on my own time and I feel like I'm progressing much faster than I did in High school!

Under some propaganda of CCP, most of Chinese people think Chinese is the hardest language in the world, so we don't expect any non-Chinese to speak Chinese (and we don't actively teach other). On the other hand, most of us think people fluent in English (especially without any "Chinese accent") is usually well-educated. I don't believe that Chinese guy doesn't speak any English, but it is just because he's not that fluent, he'd rather avoid it and classifies himself as "not well-educated", and he was trying to protect his ONLY pride that he can speak this "most difficult language in the world". Thanks to laoshu, we are breaking the stereotype!

SwZap If you actually knew a second or third language you would know it’s not truly possible to get rid of your native accent, as accents are only fully picked up during a “critical period” during childhood. Native English speakers (those who only speak one language in particular) should be more respectful of people who know English as a second language, especially those whose language is radically different from English (e.g., Mandarin, Arabic, etc.).

This would never happen in Sweden, that's one thing for sure, after all Swedes don't speak with each other, unless they have to, otherwise striking up conversations with strangers is considered rude, smiling at people is something only service people do, greeting people you don't know is a big no-no. Although there are occasions when greeting strangers are okay, for instance if you're running in the forest and meet someone, then it's obligatory to greet the other, otherwise it's considered rude.
I hate Swedish social norms, they make starting conversations really awkward.

I remember how I was living in South Korea for 2 years and and I could only understand a couple words. Then I got to a university where I was studying Korean for about 4 months and when I came back to Korea for holidays, I managed to have a little conversation with some people. It was such an amazing feeling when you finally can understand people around you and talk to them after two and the half years of language barrier!

I started learning Korean because of watching your videos. I don't necessarily have any reasoning as to why I chose Korean specifically, but I'm glad I did. With that, i've made a lot of new native korean friends and even a best friend I play video games with everyday. I got introduced into Korean dramas, and music. I'm not the biggest fan of the music but it's nice, and the dramas are really good, too. I'm just starting to learn how to read and write, and I also need to learn to understand when Koreans speak very fast.

It is a great tactic to improve listening skills as well as pronounciation and understanding but it isn't exactly the best option in terms of expression. By that i mean, dramas are overly exaggerated and i think its fine to use them to study as long you dont only rely on that or you end up being dramatic as well! I would moreso recommend youtubers and variety shows to understand the general and natural way korean is spoken ~

PD: I think the word you needed was "propio"; tengo mi propio negocio ( I have my own business).
"Mismo" is used to give more force to a pronoun (pleonasm); Lo hice yo mismo ( I did it myself).
He visto la frase "on my own" traducida como "por mi mismo", aunque es mas por similtud de significado que traduccion literal.
