He can see that Alex is far more comfortable singing rather than talking, that he's not in his element and so he does an amazing job speaking sincerely and respectfully, without any sort of pressure or idiotic jokes that so many others do. The slow pace of the interview and host's professionalism made Alex relax and be himself here far more than he usual does.
This interview is just pure class all the way through. The easy banter. The informed questions. The interested responses. Two genuine dudes, one room, both with a role to play, filling space on radio airways without a hiccup. I'm appreciating the skill on both fronts. It doesn't hurt that Turner's vocals are the epitome of smooth.
As much as I love the Monkeys and enjoyed this show, I have to say that the interview was pretty damn bad. Yes, the interviewer was really prepared but Alex's one word responses really killed that - especially the first part. That was almost cringy. It's funny how back then this interview was my getaway when I felt sad or emotional because I loved how soothing Alex's voice is and how the acoustics calm me down and the pretty lights and that cheered me up so much but now it makes me so emotional because it reminds me of those times. It wasn't a particularly great time of my life then but it was a whole lot better than now, so.
