I definitely had to slow it down and practice it quite a bit, it did not come naturally to me. Once I practiced it long enough, I was able to record it first take. Don't give up, you got this!! Aaaand, you can always simplify it if needed.
Happy to help! I find that I tend to not use the hihats for the tutorials, to keep it more clean and simple, but when I play live I do use the hi-hat quite a bit.
