  • Didn't touch anything (apart from running fuel to it), only problem we had was the starter motor solenoid failed. After we sorted that out, it ran beautifully! Even idled! Can't kill a Holden
    Also it was stubborn to get off the trailer because, as we later found out, it was stuck in gear.

    You gotta love the old grey. Had an FJ paddock bomb as a kid we mercilessly beat the crap out, broke the engine mounts sending the fan through the radiator, solution take out the radiator and continue beating the poor thing even harder without any cooling system for several months. When we were finished with it we just cut a few cables ect rolled her on its roof letting the engine fall onto the ground. Installed that engine into a mates road going FJ and it kept running trouble free for years, just couldn't kill it.......

    Love the sound of the Holden in-line sixes as stock. Factory iron manifolds may not be great for performance, but they sure make a great sound.

    Do the people that commented negatively honestly believe it wouldn't have required a rebuild no matter how gently it was treated? Then again it's already a reco'd engine (Repco Gold Star - **trivia; The giant factory where these were rebuilt - Lygon St, Brunswick - was only just demolished).

    Can't kill the old Holdens, got a lot of time for them..easy to work on compared to the over sensored plastic crap we get now a days..that cost a fortune & break down often

    That is the old 2.15 engine, correct ? How many miles does she show ? Sounds and looks good, just a little damage on the near side front guard .

    • @lappyverbatim6498
      @lappyverbatim6498  10 років тому

      Yeah it was the 2.15 or so old grey motor. I think the odometer was showing around 70,000 but who knows how correct that was. It ran quite nicely, was a bit rough but it was all there just wanting a bit of love. I think the only modification was a floor mount shifter. Anyway a bloke bought it with the intent to fix it up enough to enjoy but not completely showroom.

      +zonie1953 Its the 132 if its the original motor. The 138 came out with the EK which came with the hydramatic so they increased the engine size to allow for the sludgematic !
      Something about the sound of grey motor (I grew up on them when they were not that old)

    • @deanotune
      @deanotune 8 років тому

      Sorry bud your wrong. The FB had the 132. 138 came with the EK to compensate for the hydramatic which was first fitted to the EK.
      I did my apprenticeship on these cars .....

    Solid lifters boys not hydraulic so they tick when cold

    I did cringe when I watched this one, thinking about how a pro would do it, but the Grey is a very tough engine. I've seen them survive things that would kill a modern engine. So long as they actually do the work to clean it up mechanically, shouldn't be too much of a problem. HOWEVER, potentially less work in the long run if you bring them out of an automotive coma gently

    what sought of idiot starts a car that has been sitting for 30 years without checking the oil level and water, thats why we cant have anything good in this country.

  • @jamesfrench7299
    @jamesfrench7299 8 років тому +2

    How predictable. Resurrect antique engine from a long sleep and rev it right away. It's not a Ferrari. Grow up juveniles.

    • @hamishkerr7232
      @hamishkerr7232 8 років тому

      +James French I believe in their eyes it's better than a Ferrari! Why not give it a rev? Better to be a car that had the chance for people to enjoy again rather than sitting around waiting for prudes like yourself to have a go.

    • @jamesfrench7299
      @jamesfrench7299 8 років тому +1

      I agree wholeheartedly with the first part but why not give it a Rev?
      Do I need to explain about murdering a motor while it is cold?
      Why not let it get some temperature first for a couple of minutes at least instead of revving it's tits off the moment it wakes up??
      I wouldn't treat a modern efi engine that way after a day.
      This is why I despair of young people getting their mitts on a car that was built before they were born.
      Look, these guys plainly appreciate the car, buy they need to show more mechanical sympathy to an engine!
