- The Sherman family have been involved in and supporting the Lightning Ridge (and Australian) opal community since 1896. This 1959 FC Holden was used to advertise the business for many years and now resides with the Lightning Ridge Historical Society as a piece of local heritage and a local icon.

Always a pleasure to see Barbara and Peter again, thanks for another fascinating tale. What makes Aussie opal fields the best in the world is their longevity; they can operate over a century and as a result create true tight knit communities of wonderful oddballs. Most of the world, even if places also famed for opal like mexico; they are usually picked clean and ditched for good within a few years. Lovely video about a lovely holden thanks!
Thanks so much Ana - and you’re absolutely spot on, our opal fields wouldn’t have such a rich history if they were emptied out so quickly. I’m glad we have an environment where oddballs can flourish. 😂
Thank you for sharing your experiences of Lightning Ridge. It’s a truly satisfying story of such a unique and wonderful Town and its unique people. I’ve never been there but i love it anyway! 👍🏼
You’re very welcome, I really appreciate the positive feedback! 😁
Always informative and hilarious. Some great characters out your way! Greetings from Dimboola, in Victoria. 😊
Thanks Nancy! Always appreciate your kind words. 😁
Excellent Vid, God to see Peter again, I'm still cutting and I started at Sherman Opals . It was E.G.Sherman Opals back then. (Ernest Gregory Sherman)
Thanks Greg! Always good to see Peter, guaranteed a laugh and a good story. Appreciate the comment. 😁
Hi there from Geelong Victoria my name is Ken I don't you to feel amended but it's a 1959 model 225,and the FC came first came out in May 6 1958 and then finally finished at Christmas 1959 then the FB Holden came out in January of 1960.I used to have a 1958 FC and it was painted Terraglow and Adobe beige in a sedan.
Hi Ken! You’re 100% correct, it’s definitely a 1959 FC. 😁
good info
Thanks so much!
This vid has raised an interesting point regarding the door locks on the car. I owned an FB Holden sedan and the door locks were the same. No lock in the driver’s door but the passenger door had the key lock. Anybody know the story behind this?
I read somewhere that Holden's idea was that by entering and leaving the car via the passenger side, you didn't run the risk of being hit by another car if you were parallel parked on a street.
