One thing I'd like to point out is in the Nintendo segment, at 12:36 when you mentioned the Japanese Fatal Frame game, I think another big example of Nintendo putting exclusive games onto competing systems is Yo-kai Watch, which had the fourth game (Yo-kai Watch 4++) released on the PS4 in Japan, despite being a Switch and 3DS only game series for the longest.
@@regulargoat7259 Yokai Watch 3 came out in late 2018 and sold abysmal in the West. The Bowser's Inside Story Remake sold similarly "well", but that was a Remake nobody needed, while Yokai Watch 3 was a new and original quality title. It's not like Nintendo didn't advertise it at all, the 3DS just really was dead at that point.

Wait until the sixth anniversary of Switch where we will have a summary of everything, that happened with the Nintendo Switch between March 2022 and February 2023, in my opinion it was around a 3.5 to 4 out of five knee slaps a. k. a. mid B-Tier.
Halo on Mac will always be one of my favorite gaming tidbits. The fact that it was originally introduced as a Mac exclusive third person shooter by Steve Jobs is just amazing.
Idk why it's kinda mind-blowing the direct announcing Fatal frame 3 remake was just today and it still seemed like a super natural part of the video. How is Scott this good?
So interesting thing with super Mario special: at the time it was developed it was considered impossible to do smooth scrolling on pc. A few years later, nintendo was contacted by a small texas based developer called Ideas From the Deep, with a small demo of a pc version of Mario 3, which notably had smooth scrolling and a request to develop the game. Nintendo turned them down. Ideas from the deep where ID software. Their revolutionary pc platformer, commander keen, only happened because nintendo didn't let them make Mario, and debatable that is what lead to the development of DOOM.
As a kid with limited means, I lost it when SEGA games were released on the GBA and GCN. Crazy Taxi, Chu Chu Rocket, Sonic Advance, Sonic Mega Collection. Great times.
When I was a kid, 6 in 1 puzzle collection was the only game I owned. When I saw that rat trapper game on the screen, it awakened so many fun memories I didn't know I had. Thank you Scott.
It isn't specific at all, there was a lot of talk in 2016 with Xbox One and now this days with PC ports of PlayStation games. The weird thing is that he pretty much skimmed over them and focused on the Nintendo side of things (as usual).
I would say Caddicarus is the only other youtuber with a similar level of creativity and commitment to one-off gags. I'd love to see a collab between those two honestly! It might just break the internet.
Id like to extend a big thank you to Dave for allowing Scott to purchase his copy of SMB1 and making sure he left his seal of approval engraved on it. Kudos. All jokes aside, stellar video as always Scott
One of the nice but often underappreciated perks of PC ports is preservation and long-term availability. Old games get hard to find and play once the system's been out of production for a while, and a lot of times devs either can't or don't want to keep re-releasing them on new systems. Want to play Arkham City? $20 on Steam. Want to play Infamous? Have fun trying your luck on Ebay and/or blowing the dust out of an old PS3. Hell the original release of Deus Ex 1 still works and is available for $7.
There used to be a solution for constant rereleases, backwards compatibility. Instead of buying it again or getting some revamped version, you could just play the original on new platforms. But then most systems stopped doing that, thus starting the rise of rereleases and remakes as it's the only way to play most of them on new systems. Sure Xbox does backwards compatibility, but not for everything. You have to gradually wait for each individual game to be approved for compatibility, when in the old days every game was compatible right from the get go.
@@antimatter3084 It's insane how big the emu communities have gotten these days. I remember hearing that Switch emulation is so good right now that Metroid Dread was mostly playable the day it released (or earlier given it broke street date and got dumped online before release)
And that's without even getting into performance improvements. Playing an older game on a newer PC gives an experience similar to many console "remasters" just by boosting settings and resolution.
@@itskdog I'm a massive emulation person myself but consoles like the PS2 and the Sega Saturn with their wacky hardware will never be emulated perfect but I do appreciate the work that PCSX2 has put in, and emulators like Bsnes, Mesen, Mgba, and Duckstation are legit amazing.

I know a lot of games have the “don’t pause” mechanic, but I liked having to look at the game pad to do inventory and interact with the world. Added more urgency to the game when you had to Actually look away from the tv screen to do things
I honestly want to see super smash bros on all systems. I understand why that can’t be a possibility but I feel like that will show off one of the main selling points of smash in which it being a celebration of video games
Scott the Woz used to be exclusive to UA-cam, but he signed a deal with G4 in 2020 to release certain episodes to air on network television. This is really cool, now he's reaching a market that he never would have before! However there are a few minor edits to make it fit in better with television, so the videos are a bit different, in fact worse. But whatever helps him reach a wider audience!
Watching this right after finding out that Goldeneye 007, formerly an N64 exclusive, is now getting two re-releases, each one an exclusive version to the Switch and Xbox, both with different major upgrades but also different glaring issues. What a world.
25:25 I wonder if Dave ever dreamed that one day his Super Mario Bros cartridge would be displayed on an internet video viewed by more people than he might ever know.
I love how Scott managed to sum up the console/PC debate pretty nicely. And to be fair I've played both and I do admit that despite a PC games customization it can be a pain to get things to run, so that's fair.
Well he was initially ex-exclusive, as he was also on G4 when that channel was still running, but I don't know what caused him to jump back, whether it's the show flopping or that Scott didn't have anymore interest in it, he came back here.
I always think it's cool whenever games get ported to other systems. Persona is one of my favorite series ever, and now Persona 5 is getting a release on Xbox and Switch, makes me happy that more people can play it. Exclusives are a great way to sell a system and will always be a thing. But certin games becoming former exclusives are always great to see.

minecraft pocket edition is also an ex-exclusive because the nintendo switch, ps4/ps5, xbox one/series x/s versions (from 2017 to present day) are all based off mcpe, just with a different name (bedrock edition).
I remember people being mad about Kingdom Hearts going over to Xbox but for me, as a fan, I was happy. Because I think it’s a great way to let other people try a game you grew up with.
As much as Im all for it, Xbox doesnt have the audience interested in Japanese games. I dont know anyone who owns an Xbox that gets Japanese games. Xbox is mostly full of white and black kids who think they are hard only getting CoD, Battlefield, sports games like Madden, 2K, or Fifa, or Halo
Seeing people mald about Kingdom Hearts coming to Xbox was funny because Kingdom Hearts has never been a PlayStation exclusive franchise. Hell, technically there are still four KH games that aren't and will never be available on PlayStation.
Linux is way more user friendly than Windows, for one it doesn't spam you down with notifications, nor does it put ads or gps tracking news feeds on your installation.
The best example of an ex-exclusive game is Resident Evil 4. It was only a Gamecube game, but got released on the PS2 in less than a year later, and had ports to almost every device ever made.
Talk about an amazing day. I was in a good mood, productive, watched a good Nintendo Direct, watched an AMAZING State of Play, had a good dinner, and just to cap things off, a new Scott video. Beautiful.
I liked how you complained that people shouldn't bother with getting every game on every system they own, especially when they only play one or two games, because that was exactly what I ended up feeling myself after accumulating nearly every game for every system to play them in HD on my PC through emulation, where I, in fact, ended up playing PC only games and PC versions of games and just ignoring the collection.

Also it’s one of the the only games (other examples are Geometry Dash and Valve’s games, e.g. Portal, Half-Life, Counter-Strike, and Team Fortress) that runs consistently on my ancient MacBook

A Nintendo Direct and a Scott the Woz episode the same day, this is one of the best days of this year.

The direct was kinda uhhh terrible tho
@@axc0mmt Pikmin 4 was finally announced after like 10 years, new trailers came out for Bayonetta 3 and BotW 2, just because the direct wasn't every single thing you specifically wanted doesn't make it a bad direct
It was pretty good for me. Sure, some farming sim games were unwarranted but I really enjoyed the kirby, pikmin and zelda reveals
I know the reception for the Direct was mixed But what does Scott think? Wait until the sixth anniversary of Switch where we will have a summary of everything, that happened with the Nintendo Switch between March 2022 and February 2023, in my opinion it was around a 3.5 to 4 out of five knee slaps a. k. a. mid B-Tier.
Halo on Mac will always be one of my favorite gaming tidbits. The fact that it was originally introduced as a Mac exclusive third person shooter by Steve Jobs is just amazing.
i'd say mario port for pc made by ID software is cooler
ID did make a pc port if smb, but it never got greenlit. Nintendo opted for hudson’s... f***ing weird port instead
Idk why it's kinda mind-blowing the direct announcing Fatal frame 3 remake was just today and it still seemed like a super natural part of the video. How is Scott this good?
I'm not sure if Fatal Frame 3 would work in the style of 4 or 5. 2 didn't really.

@@zrixie7695 I wonder if the switch version will keep the Luigi outfit.
And now ID Software is owned by Microsoft, how the tables have turned

this is why we want The L Button
It isn't specific at all, there was a lot of talk in 2016 with Xbox One and now this days with PC ports of PlayStation games. The weird thing is that he pretty much skimmed over them and focused on the Nintendo side of things (as usual).

There is always emulation but even that is imperfect and requires time to develop but it is basically the best bet for preserving video games
