I am a 63 yo grandfather that just custody of my grandchildren and I am here to say that its been a very very long time since I had to do any algebra.
My grandchildren are both in the 8th grade doing pre algebra, and I could not remember for the life of me how to do it. Thank you for your video, its amazing how fast it started to come back to me. Thank you again
Dividing by a fraction can be summarized as "same-change-flip". It's a concept that I have used with great success in the middle school classes that I teach.
but we called it " KFC" meaning: " Keep-flip-change"
THANK YOU for breaking this down like you did. So many people rush through this stuff and my brain cant make important connections before the problem is over and therefor I cant properly memorize the steps. Out of all the hours and hours of videos and websites I have gone through this is the only one that made me feel like i can do this. Hello! I'm a normal 5th grader, soon taking the ihp test! I was struggling to catch up like the others, and I was so worried because the test was in FOUR days. I was tired of work stacking on my table, AND I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ANYTHING! When there was 3 days remaining, I found this video. This video helped me so much! After a few months watching your videos I can say with confidence that I would pass pre-algebra class.
And I totally made my peace with the right method you taught me. Even if the solution is obvious I now always do it the right way i.e. by isolating the variable methodically.

Well today was my day to shine sort of speak. I did take my final exam which was mathematics. I did pass. Wow!!! It's been a hard road for me however, I now understand why it's important to listen to the teachers in class and that a high school diploma does matter. May 31 I get to stand with the rest of my fellow students for graduation. I cannot thank you enough for all of the instructional mathematical classes on youtube....wow!! What a day....

Thanks so much for the help! I had trouble doing pre algebraic equations. And this helps for sure I’m only in 5th grade learning this, I got a worksheet for this and only got 80 percent of them correct. I think it’s bad but this will help make it it better!

@@KaleaMaine Yup, where I went to High School they had pre-algebra as a course we needed to take. Each school district does things differently I guess.
I am having a bit of trouble on the last problem. When multiplying the reciprocal, how do you come up with 6/1 when the answer comes out as 6/6. Also if I may ask, how does the multiplication process not cancel both fractions out leaving only the product? Instead of leaving the product multiplied by the reciprocal?
That’s part of the beginning equation; he multiplied by both sides but that 6/1 is just the equation.
I think it’s -9 because 9/1x2/3=18/3 which is equal to 6. So just make the 9 a -9 so they cancel each other to make a positive 6.
-2/3 x -9 =6 h=-9 ????

4y = 12 divide both sides by 4 y = 3
x - 5 = -10 add 5 to both sides x = -5
(-2/3)h = 6 multiply both sides by -3/2 h = 6 x -3/2
h = - 18/2 = -9
So is it negative two-thirds times h or is it negative two over three times h?

You have it next to the two.
-(2/3) = (-2)/3 = 2/(-3) .
The negative sign can be before the fraction, in the numerator, or in the denominator and it is the same.
