- I show several more unused ABC strats. This is the sequel to my first video on unused ABC strats ( • Unused ABC Strats ).
One of the cool things about the A button challenge is that it necessitates doing things in creative and unintuitive ways in order to counteract the A press restriction. Consequently, ABC videos often showcase interesting strats that would never have been used in a normal speedrun. However, this paradigm isn't perfect, as some strats happened to have no practical use for an ABC run, and so they'd never have an opportunity to be shown. Thus, this video is meant to fix that by showcasing exactly those strats. - Ігри

Then again Pannens "intended method" involves diving onto the wall behind the star and dropping down on top of it so maybe it isn't exactly what Nintendo had in mind

Works across quicksand too, but you're only safe for that first bounce.
do either of you know why this is the case? How does the lava 'hitbox' work then?
bernardo013 its because the slide kick animation has priority over the lava bounce animation
@@bernardo013 the lava has no hitbox, lava, quicksand, etc. are floor triangles' attributes.
thank you both! now I'm wondering if there's a way to somehow initiate multiple slide kicks in a row to infinitely skip over lava and quicksand haha

When using the intended method is a feat worth mentioning in this video
Mario's butt is always the first thing that burns, unless he slides off a platform onto his butt in which case he just bounces. Makes sense.
All of Marios body redirects temperature changes to his butt, except for when he bounces on it, which it spreads it out to most of his body, nullifying damage.

Has anyone in the past 15 years ever collected the "Shocking arrow lifts!" Star the intended way instead of using the teleporter?
I didn't even realize there were arrows there..
actually i did, few weeks ago when i was beating sm64 for the first time on an emulator

To be fair, I was watching speedruns of the game, so I knew the porter existed...
I always do it the intended way. Pretty sure I did it that way as a kid too.

I love that you guys know that Mario can make it on top of the flame shooters 0x. there's no practical reason to even want to think about doing that (except maybe looking for RR tech).
I can just imagine Pannen and the gang getting bored one day and going "hey you guys wanna TAS mario getting on top of flame shooters without the A button?

There is a reason these are kept around.
There should be an "A button challenge Balloon Hiding" thing just so you get to flex on the others with your knowledge of seemingly useless ABC tactics.

You either don't know a lot of math or you're underestimating the comparative scope of the field. I don't remember seeing anything past algebra on this channel, so you should know more about math than SM64 if you've taken math through Math 2, at least in absolute terms.
Then again, knowing the state of US math education these days, that might not be enough for that...

The first bounce of a zb slide kick is immune to lava.
Dungeneer First bounce of the slidekick allows you to bounce on shifting sand the same way to prevent death
Is that programmed in, or a glitch?
I'm not sure, but I like to think that the "Blazing Butt Bounce" is intentional.

for the bully one im not sure if works on that one but on the other bully you can get it down a level by dr near the corner, the bully see's you and runs toward you and when he hits you he drops down for whatever reason
i think everyone agrees with me when i say pannen should do the following:
get in contact with DwangoAC and make the 0x challenge a TAS which then is a donation goal at the next GDQ event with at least 150.000$ requirement. ppl would donate for that for sure.

That's a glitch. You can bounce off lava the first time using a ZB slide kick.

Okay, it's weird to see Mario slide-bounce off of lava. How the hell is he able to do that when he normally gets his butt burned just from grazing the sides of it???

Do you have a video explaining exactly how the hat-in-hand glitch works? As in, why does Mario hold the hat after collecting a second hat? What's in the programming that does that?
Kaedenn It wasn't explained in any of his videos afaik, but my first guess is that the second hat animation starts at the same frame that first one ends so the second animation gets interrupted leaving the "hat in hand" flag from the beginning set (normally the animation would reset it in the middle as mario puts the cap on)
So how does the lava/slide kick interaction work then?
Is it because the start of the kick registers mario's position as on a stand-able floor and doesn't update until after the first bounce meaning the game treats that first bounce as being off a normal floor?
Would this be abusable to make a "Floor" somewhere where there usually isn't a floor, like against a ceiling or something?
Because I had to just pause and boot up the emulator to test this out as it never occurred to me in my many years playing this game that going into the lava would not result in immediate ouchies....
UncommentatedPannen, do you think it's possible to "confuse the game" so that it plays a music in a place it shouldn't? Like for example having the game to play browser's theme in the castle, or in the 1st stage. It would be useless but still fun.

You can only actived the stored upwards momentum if you can get airborn for 1 frame (by falling off an edge mostly)

It is already used for the pole star in DDD, but that star requires A to be held from the beginning of the level (0.5x). Here Pannen just shows it can be done 0x.

nope, the reason why you move backwards when picking up a box is because mario's model intersects the box's hitbox, pushing Mario back. the behavior is no different than any other wall in the game

Simple, just use the Z and B button combination and you have one free bounce on the lava, or freezing water.

If you’re asking how it works, the bounce is a ground state. Lava wants to find an air state. Lava did not find air state. Bounce happens.
