  • It's time to restock the pantry! I have $1100 to provide all of our food and household needs for our family of NINE for the month. I've carefully planned out where to shop and what prices are the best. I've studied the sale ads and I know which stores have the best prices. Today's shopping comes from 10 Box, Aldi, Kroger, and Wal-Mart. Later in the month, I'll make purchases from Sam's Club and Azure Standard. Come see the supplies a large family needs to live off of for a month!

There was an interview of an Aldi store manager on the news regarding grocery inflation. He said that Aldi has decided to lower their prices on certain staples through the end of the year (to gain market share, although they said it was to be helpful to people during hard times!) Anyway, the lowered priced onions probably reflect that change. The changed prices don't show up in their sales flyer because they are now "normal" prices until they change them back.

I was very disappointed with the price of their butterball turkeys... they were 30 cents a pound cheaper at Winn Dixie but I jumped the gun unfortunately and got it at Aldi... I know to be a little more patient in the future.

Janice, your “lower your grocery bill” tips are so important right now! Food prices in California are just not coming down enough yet for people with children! We see so many moms with little ones out shopping and using their phone calculators to see if they have enough money to cover everything in their cart. It is not unusual to see them pulling items out while watching the register totals coming up. The videos you do are beginning to inform more and more people of how to get the most out of the dollars they have to spend for groceries.
Thank you! You are helping younger people who sometimes have no one to teach them about budgeting and shopping. Your channel members are so proud of you and Sean and all of the children because you are each teaching good life skills about home and family, and food and fun!
Peace be with you throughout this month of Gratitude!🙏🏼🇺🇸

Janice and Shaun are truly Servants of God by sharing these types of informative/educational videos to even wider range of people as the economy isn’t going to get better and we need to re-assess our budgets and storage capacity.🙏😇❤️💖🎁👍🧮

I live in lemon growing country in SoCal so here's a tip. You can slice lemons and freeze them for later use. You would save $ by using the slices in your tea bc the oil from the lemon peel would flavor it and the vitamin C you're looking for would be in the peel and the pulp. All those cubes of juice can be used for other things like lemon bars.

Sarah.. when canning potatoes follow the instructions in your canning book but make sure you rinse them really well after the blanching process to get rid of all that starch and add lemon juice just a splash to each jar to prevent browning. I always add it to my potatoes in a bowl of water as I'm cutting them up to also prevent browning they brown so fast and are unappetitizing looking. It won't hurt if they do turn brown but it's much prettier when they are a beautiful white color. Anna In Ohio

I soak my potatoes overnight to help get rid of the excess starch.
I have canned Russet, Yukon Gold and Red potatoes and the gold and red hold up better to the processing.
Believe me when I say this, it doesn't matter which variety you can. If you're hungry you WILL eat them
Canned potatoes make the BEST soup too.

Remember when you go back for your sweet potato’s use the larger plastic bags that are in the produce department near the lettuce and celery. I asked someone working in the produce dept to see how many you can buy and he suggested using the larger bags and you can get 5 bags plus they are stronger. It may varie by location though. I agree! I just love Janice. I relate to her because I love sales, being prepared, researching and comparing/contrasting, organizing, planning, etc. I feel accomplished when I save money buying healthy food. I never thought I would enjoy watching a video of what someone else bought and what their decision making process was. But it’s just fun to watch because I relate to her and I live alone so I can’t really go all out like she does for her family of 9. Plus I don’t eat meat and I find it interesting to see what types of products and sales she gets in that arena.

I love the process you go through to get the best deals. My husband works at a large grocery store so we do all our shopping there. He does it all. I never have to go grocery shopping. I'm so blessed by that. What he DOES regularly do is get huge mark downs on gently damaged items or sometimes when they do a reset of an item. We have a LOT of food in our house at all times. I probably could go without shopping for a couple months and still eat well. Just wanted to tell you how impressed I am with how you budget for your large family.

Our meal preps are a bit smaller now lol…but I still love going to Costco and our local Safeway. Your kids are so sweet…especially to each other. I love how Sarah has accomplished so many important things in food preparation and preserving.

Sweet Janice you tell Sarah to can those russets! I did it for the 1st time in mid October and have used some in soup and made potato salad and worked perfect. The one thing I can suggest is to let them soak and drain at least 3 times cause some of the starch needs removed. As we all know even those that in a can from a store had a thick white liquid in the bottom of a can. There will still be thick liquid in the bottom but I just run cold water and wash it out. Love y'all to pieces. God Bless!

I enjoy watching your video so much. I am one person living alone but I really admire your hard work and love for your family that shows in the way you do your groceries. Also your desire to help others by sharing your deals. I have some of those same Kroger deals in my app card right now. Sometimes I want to go to different stores to get the best deals but I am limited by physical disability. I will go to ALDI early tomorrow morning. My store has an electronic wheelchair that will be fully charged then. Last week I ordered and picked up from Kroger and walmart. I do miss seeing all the markdowns when I don't go in but sometimes it doesn't work for me to go in. Sometimes they are just too busy and there are no electric wheelchairs available. I also use washable pads. I was wondering if you buy them and where or if you make them? Just curious. My Aldi has always carried the fat-free refried beans. I hope you all have a wonderful thanksgiving! P. S. - I always mean to ask but why doesn't your family eat pork?

If you peel the russets one day and soak them in cold water overnight and skim off the starch the next morning, they do fine. Especially for soups, stews, casseroles, etc. ❤

I love your excitement over good prices. Sarah if you can the mandarin oranges be sure you get all the white pith off them first or they get bitter. My brain is frozen but there is an ingredient you can soak them in to make it easier to get off. I love that you enjoy canning. I find it addictive once I started I just kept looking for things I could put in jars. Lol

Soak oranges in a pectic enzyme to remove pith, or else the entire batch will be bitter. Ask me how I know!😂

I always enjoy your hauls. I also do the main shopping once a month and then just replenish items if needed as the month goes on. I usually do the online Walmart order because I don't like shopping there either. I also have to use a mobility scooter and need help with the big orders so it's just easier for the store to do it for me. I don't know why females feel ashamed or embarrassed when they need to buy feminine products. They shouldn't be because it is a part of being a female and everyone knows it happens. I think of it as a self cleaning oven that cleans itself out once a month. I was the same way my whole life when I had to buy them too though and dreaded when I have to buy stuff up until I had a full hysterectomy in 2020. It was a big emotional and mental adjustment to not have to deal that that anymore.

I can potatoes every year. I peel and cut up and boil for 5 minutes and then i wash them off to keep the starch off. Then can them. That is the best way i have to do them. If not the starch is horrific
Also i canned oranges 1 time they were nasty nasty so if Sarah does them and they tirn out good i need her recipe. Thank you

I’m so impressed with this method of budgeting . Seems like a lot of time and effort but staying in budget is the principle. We don’t use any prepared, boxed or frozen convenience style food due to quality and unhealthy additives . This seems to help stay within a budget. Food really has increased in price so no wasting in this house
