Ive listened to this song 100s of times and seen the video almost as many times, and it still gets me emotional
I agree. The problem is our society is too insulated from war. They see it on TV or Movies but it really doesn't hit home.
@@coolerking7427 yezzir, we only get 50% of the story anyways
Somewhere in the web wrote that guitar solos and drums at the end recalls the bombs flying and the machineguns firing... war sounds turned into metal sound... Metallica fan since the first time I heard ONE back in the 90´s
@@coolerking7427 Well, look at it this way. Is it good or bad that the younger generation doesn't have a close relation with the horrors of war? I would lean towards good. History can still be horrifying, even though they can't relate as much to it. But because they can't relate, that means they luckily haven't experienced it.
@@thanossnap4170 I don't think it is good, because as they grow up and many of our young minds become old fools and some who may become politicians, military, and a grow with hatred they from the things they might see on the news as they speak about history especially ours with other countries, They will never learn the full truth, they will never remember the casualties as that, but as more insurgents who got killed because the people in power are always right and your wrong and even if you really did know what happend, on paper they learn from just say that those people deserved what they got for not being refugees and leaving the terrorist hubs in the middle east and will likely turn into the same murderers and butchers for resources that we deserve. They will be indoctrinated into believing that they cannot be wrong and will likely be the same, especially politicians who love signing into a war but never fully understanding the plight of those killed because a general says something that scares the shit out of them instead of someone like Bush who did most of it for a vendetta of his father in Iraq or Obama who decided to just up and invade and cause famine in 5 other countries mostly for resources and shits and giggles, Trump and Biden though are exactly the same in that reguard. Trump wasnt even in office long before indiscriminately allowing the Generals to attack anybody who is being suspicious which was anyone still alive in any place they feel should be droned to death.
Was laughing out loud when the one guy says at the beginning, “the bass hasn’t even entered yet.” You listen to the entire album and can say that same phrase.. 😂
Jason was great, but CLIFF was the BEST
The video actually has much of the original bass in it be the album.
Agree bro but you can barely hear it in “and justice for all” just barely
I thought the same thing. I'm pretty sure that's why it was included in the video
Lars and James turned the bass down to nothing on this album. Jason deserved better.
"Help me mother, I'm having a nightmare and I can't wake up!" I get chills everytime.
What's he saying? Kill me...over and over again...kill me...
“Inside me I was screaming but nobody payed any attention… If I had arms I could kill myself… If I had legs I could run away… If I had voice, I could talk at least some kind of company for myself… Why don’t they get over with it and kill me?… I could yield for help, but nobody helped me… I just got to do something… I don’t see how I could go on like this… S-O-S… Help me… S - O - S… H e l p m e…”
Decades later and the subject of this video is fucking crushing.
@@ladaddy19for as long as war exists, this song will always hold that sentiment.
Father .... where are you ???
"He's a product of your profession not mine" heaviest line in the video.
Undoubtedly. Just bodied.
I actually prefer "For Democracy, any man would give his only begotten son"
For me it's "absolute horror". Because that's what it is to me.
well, considering how many people have died, and continue to die over religion, I find that line to be extremely hypocritical. doesn't take away from this amazing masterpiece of a song, It just kinda makes me laugh, like really? Doesn't the "padre" realize how many wars were fought because of religion?? His "profession" is literally just as much responsible for death and destruction since the beginning of human existence lol.
@@808teckie6 I always thought the doctor said that.
Still can't believe this song didn't win the Grammy.
1990 Grammy awards - One
In my personal opinion, Grammy politics had a major hand in metalica not winning a Grammy for ONE. SAME BULL POOH, DIFFERENT time.
Grammy's are stupid. Winning one is a sign of mediocrity.
1988 One was nominated but Jethro Tull won best Rock/Metal award, hence this awesome remark.... ua-cam.com/video/fhJarG5jft8/v-deo.html
@@user-qr3gt7ge1z They were nominated but Jethro Tull won the award
Those multi-reactions feel like listening to song for the first time again. As a long time Metallica fan, it's quite amazing.
Thats what I like about reaction videos. Ive seen so many videos so many times over so many years its like they just become part of your normal world. Seeing other people's 1st time brings me back to my 1st time.
it honestly does feel like listening for the first time again . To see the reactions and witness the people understand is awesome
Each time I see these I relive my first time over and over
When that guy said "the bass hasn't even entered yet" I had a little chuckle
Wish he'd listen to Anesthesia.
This song is a master piece from start to finish. There is nothing being released today that comes even close to this level of awesomeness
Correct
except bass
Yes,but the Bass is missing.Cant hear Jason.😢
We tried to tell yall in the 80's it wasn't devil music....most metal has deep meaning....Johnny got his gun is the movie.
Nah fuck that even in the 70s we were
The book is way better than the movie...they don't even come close to how good the book is!!
I remember getting told why do I listen to heavy metal...devil music....now people except it
The song which has tricked millions into listening to Thrash Metal. Iconic, timeless, incredible song...
THATS music.
One of the greatest pieces of music in human history for sure.
One of the great every to be written and played!!!
Correct
Yes
"It's beautifully dark."
That's a perfect description for this song.
Beautifully dark ❤
love the way everyone is like crying in the solo and breakdown and shaq just screams "HOW IS HE DOIN THAT"
Brings chills down your spine, huh.
The character in question, compares himself to a child still in a mother's womb.
Without limbs or sight, he is just as powerless.
The only difference except for the constant pain, is that unlike that child, he already lived before.
And now he is back to this. He survived, yet remained trapped with nothing but his mind.
In the end, he managed to transfer the message.
"Kill me".
There is nothing of life that remains. It's over. I, am over.
He is a product of war, and now it's time to end this existence of his.
As the doctor said to the general. "He is a product of your profession, not mine."
I always believed it was the Army Chaplain who delivered that line.
"Don't you have some message for him Padre (Father)?
The most perfect song ever written, i don't even have the words to describe it.
it drives me mad everytime. i wish everybody could experience what i feel when i listen to it. i'm insanely in love with it.
You can't get this song loud enough.
Personally, I'd say this is seconded to Master of Puppets.
@@HisVirusness Orion is top of the list too. But it's not a competition. They are all great for their own reasons.
Only My Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me by Geto Boys gets nodded higher and not by much of a margin.
Legend has it he's still waiting to hear the bass come in
This is why Metallica is eternal. So many great songs like this.
Fun Fact: Metallica actually owns the rights to the movie that they dub in the One music video. The movie is called "Johnny Got His Gun"
The book is more horrifying. Dude dreamt rats were eating him.
Only because they got tired of paying the royalties.
As a young man when this was released, all I really paid attention to was what a monstrous jam this was. Now, as an old man, all I notice is the horror and intense isolation of the soldier in the video.
Same here
I’ve watched all these reactors before but it’s just great watching them all just experience this and be blown away by it and they wonder why we loved it so much when we were younger
As a teen when I heard this song it spoke to my soul growing up with addict parents and abuse this song described how I felt about my own life. And gave me the anger I needed to push through it and make my own way when I became old enough
I was there saved my life in a big way.. you know
It sucks sometimes when you are that "ONE" in a million. The name alone is deeper than hell.
I remember when this video premiered metallica’s first ever video me and all my friends gather around the TV and we are simply blown away. It was so amazing still is to this day. I love the video of the most with all the stuff from the movie it’s so good.
Welcome to my channel, everyone. I hope you enjoyed the video. If you like my work, go ahead and suggest other songs I could do in the future (Metal/Rock or similar music only).
PD: This is the very first video I have ever edited, so I'm aware of some mistakes. Still, feel free to comment and suggest things I could improve or change for future videos.
👏👏👍🎸🎸👏👏
More Metallica compilations 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
You did good. Thanks! 👊🤘
hope you make some more
good edit with some of my fave reactors.
So many songs to choose from, i don't have specific suggestions but a lot run in streaks so should be a lot to choose from.
Sometimes I wish I heard this song for the first time as an adult. In my teens I didn´t care for lyrics, but just the overal sound had to be great. I think it is overwelming to hear this song for the very first time if you´re an adult. As proven in this compilation.
well done Damian.
This song still brings tears to my eyes; especially having had a grandfather whom served in WW1, WW2, A GREAT UNCLE whom served in WW2, in the Campaigns of the Solomon Islands, Guadal Canal & Iwo Jima, a father who was just above 5 ft 2, & served as a TUNNEL RAT, in the Vietnam War.
That tunnel rat job was insane
Welcome to metal. It's about life and intense feelings.
“The bass hasn’t even entered yet.” …oh boy.
1985 i was 9years old..one night home alone put in the vhs this movie from my mother collection..i was depressed after that..couple years later this song is released..I KNEW EMEDIATLY whats its all about .. Masterpiece..what an inspiration..even played mors code withquitars and drum's.. Goosebumps
Just watched the movie last week. Movie is very disturbing and shows the horrors of war and its aftermath
The editing with the layers is so well done. Literally no part of the music video itself is wasted, overlayed with echo, or any other thing i can think of. Very well done. Good job.
I've heard this song a thousand times, and the video hundreds of times. I was/am a huge Metallica fan and i remember whent his came out. It still effects me the same as the first time i heard it.
"Help me mother, I'm having a nightmare and I can't wake up!"
That just cuts to the heart. I have to struggle not to think too deeply about that cause if I do, I'd lose it.
As a huge Metallica fan, it's amazing watching people hear their music for the first time and to see that "light" go on as another Metallica fan is born.
I started playing drum when I was nine, my first drum set, that I got to pick for myself, was a nine piece white Tama rockstar set. Metallica was one of the biggest parts of my high school life and even after. Watching this breakdown, as a 46 year old, brought a tear to my eye. Almost a weird sense of pride of others experiencing "my band" for the first time. GREAT video. Thank you!
Back when I was in senior school we read Johnny got his gun by Dalton Trumbo. The book hit the entire classroom hard which was unusual for us.
It’s a must read for everyone.
By the time this video came out I was a long time metal fan and this particular video was so far above any other video, of any genre it’s hard to put into words.
Seen all of these reactions individually but putting them all together is really interesting. Great vid.
I heard it for the first time in 1989. It continues to move me. Its depth, its argument, its power. Masterpiece.
I was 9 years old when I first saw One. I’m 44 now. It’s still and always will be my favorite Metallica track. I like hearing their reactions to this.
The guy that said he used to clown on his friends that would listen to this. They’re all smiling now looking back at you like why did you wait this long??!
One thing that music has always taught me is that it’s universal. You might like a certain kind of art, but there’s not one set genre that sets the tone for us as people.
Appreciate everything that is offered around you, don’t judge a tape or cd case by it’s cover, or you may never know what buried treasures you may discover.
This is a NICE piece of editing. Great work! Liked and sub'd for more compilations like this.
This is the song that truly got me into Metallica. I got chills the first time I heard it and I still do now
This multi review has got to be the best review of this song ive ever seen.
The shared emotions really hit home with me.
Thank you ❤
The snare drums hitting off beat, yet on beat rhythm in the first part of the song is to represent the Bullets he is remembering...then the uptick in drums comes when the Bomb/landmine both hit him, as the last thing he consciously remembers. If you listen to it again, it adds YET Another layer to how Genius they were with writing this song.
AMAZINGLY UNDERRATED, even though it is considered umungst Heavy Metal Royalty with Musical Stylings and Lyrics, that accompany the video, almost to the extreme of you sensing his frustration and pain. Again GENIUS
One was my first Metallica song. Haven’t looked back since! Seeing this live was one of the absolute BEST shows I’ve seen.
Watching this video reminded me that one is my favourite song of all time. I ugly cried
Amazing reactions to this song. Metallica is king of putting a story with the songs.
I wish I could go back in time to when this song first came out and rehear it for the first time again, it was magical. I even did a presentation on it in college, people were left stunned, they couldn't believe the masterpiece they had just heard, got a good mark also😁
I remember this song and video from the 80s and when the slbum And Justice for All came out. Ive listened to it 100s of times and i always feel the same way.
My father was rendered in this state back in 2005 following a brain stem aneurism. After the hospital detected brain activity I asked that he be completely sedated in the event he had any consciousness because of this song. After a couple of days we discontinued life support and he passed a short time later. Brutal situation.
Man, great job on the editing! Thank you for the video!
Every time I'm feeling really down this song starts playing in my head and I remember that my life is not that bad. In my senior year of high school that song was voted number one song by every clique, hoods, jocks, nerds ,chearleaders everyone recognized the power of this song and the talent of Metallica
Best editing I've seen for a multiple reactors video. Awesome flow, awesome audio, All around great job
Every time I hear this song, I always end up shedding tears... the melody and the lyrics of that musical piece are very intense, it's a Master Piece!!
I read the book, saw the movie even before I heard the song. When I got into Metallica it was when Justice came out and I heard that song and was like Damn that sound like Johnny's got his gun, then I saw the video. To this day One is in my top five Metallica songs ever.
Crazy how alot of people downt know this was written after hetfield read JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN. i read it in 8th grade when i learned the songs basis. Its stuck with me my whole life.
@@TheBackroomCollective If memory serves, he came up with the notion for a song about being brain dead. Their then manager put Het on to Johnny's got his gun. Then the song came to fruition
I love seeing music bringing us all together
I was 7 years old when this video debuted on MTV Headbangers Ball. Honestly, I love seeing how people react to something I've been watching for the last several decades now....long live MetallicA!
Seeing them perform this song live is an experience.
I've watched a many reaction videos. Been a Metallica fan and drummer/rythem guitarist since. I saw Brad and Lex in this. The point is to see so many people whose musical interests are vastly different feel the emotion and power. Just not the thrash of it all but the real emotions move every single person in this clip moved me. This may have been the first time cried watching and listening to One. All of you are amazing people. We ard not alone. Thank you to whoever made this reaction video. So many people at one time beinf affected is a tribute in of itself. Thank you! You need to send this to Metallica themselves. Let them know.
Phenomenal video! Thank you!
Love love love these compilations, and man, do I love seeing these young people get into Metallica the way I did 40 years ago. Keep 'em comin'!
Awesome edit @damiangod you brought the soul of each reaction to life in a completely different reaction. Well done! Work of art!!
Thanks for a perfect mixing of different reactions all into this one video. Masterpiece in it self. I've been a 'tallica-fan since 1991 when I was a 10 year ol' kid. I still get the gooses from listening to this. And ... with this video-mix I even shed some tears. Masterpiece once again!
This got me emotional as hell.
This is one of the darkest music videos ever made. I can remember when it came out. A group of friends listening to it. At the end not a dry eye in the group.
man... this compilation is a masterpiece itself. congrats. keep on the good work.
35 years on and still getting a reaction. Metallica rules!!
Damn. This song just broke my heart all over again after watching ya’ll!
Metallica "One" One of the very few more beautiful pieces of rock music. It melts the heart and soul.
Great editing, it makes the difference, nice one👍
Absolutely brilliant video. I’ve seen it so many times and back in the day all us fans were absolutely mesmerized. This shows what an awesome band Metallica is being able to convey the emotion of this song. Still love this video today.
Greatest breakdown ever. DARKNESS IMPRISONING ME! ALL THAT I SEE! ABSOLUTE HORROR!
Best UA-cam réaction video ever.
Thanks ! 🤘
First off I love what you're doing here . The reactions are awesome and it gives people who wouldnt ordinarily listen to Metallica a chance to see and understand what they are all about . You are doing a great service with these vids . Please keep up the spreading of the message and Rock on.
Incredible editing, fluid storytelling and perfect sound balance. Great work! You earned another subscriber. Looking forward to seeing everything you put together.
This is, and will always be the best Metal song. It checks every box.
I won free tickets over the radio in Ottawa Ontario Canada for this tour. It was an octagon stage and there were about 50 of us that were inside the octagon, not 10 feet away surrounded by the band. Words can't explain that performance!!!
Haven't heard this song in awhile but it's one of those songs that you can't listen to everyday you have to listen to it sparingly just the fact that it's such an epic and emotional song every time I hear it's my new favourite Metallica song❤
This was most outstanding... thank you for this...
This was the band, song, album that got me into Metallica and playing guitar in 1989. I still get goosebumps watching this video and watching everyones reaction to a video that i have seen and heard thousands of times. This is so cool to have all of these reactions blended. Well done! 🎸😝🤟
This one of the greatest songs put together. Very well done with the video of these people reactions.
Great compilation video buddy!! Can't wait for more!
An Opeth one would be super rad!
A new music reactors compilation channel? That's well done? Yes please! Subscribed!
I forgot how deep this video was. I’m sitting in front of the supermarket right now with tears. Brilliant!!
Absolute masterpiece!
Huge metal fan. More metal reactions please. Loving the channel. Keep up the great work. I'm a subscriber . Make me proud.xx
Very well edited. True new sub!!
This was a really well put together video, precision editing. A few these guys in the video I'm subscribed to, I've now subscribed to a few more.
Perfection from start to finish. 🤘🤘🤘
"Johnny got his gun" was written by Dalton Trumbo and published in 1939. I have it in my hand. Somewhere in all the music history I watched and read there was mention that this song was based on the book. Everyone should read it honestly especially people who know wounded warriors.
Good job with the compilation
Excellent video!
I remember being sad that they were going to fall into the MTV wormhole, but seeing this video premiere the first time even though I had memorized the entire album already , was mind blowing and the song still leaves me teary eyed and exhausted 35 years later, absolute masterpiece 🦄
great editing bro!
It’s a music video that just doesn’t lose its emotional punch even 30 years later.
It’s a very emotional watch and listen. Really great musicians can tell a lawyered story with emotion and ebbing intensity.
I know before this song that these guys could rock, but with One I realized they are actually great musicians and not just rockers.
This song always gives me chills everytime
One of the best reaction vids I’ve watched
GD I love those boys! They got me into metal in the late 80’s. Loved them ever since! Great live also! ❤❤❤
Seriously dude, I've seen a lot of multi-reaction videos, but nothing with this quality! You have a new subscriber!
I know this song very well and every time I hear it I can’t help but think about my uncle who was a marine during Vietnam and he was scouting out land mines with his buddy to disarm them and his friend was ahead of him and missed seeing one so he was blown up all over my uncle. My uncle was very badly wounded too. I remember looking through some of my grandparents photos and finding a telegram they had gotten saying my uncle had died but it turned out that he survived. He was in the hospital for over a year and got out with 100% disability and he had a ton of issues throughout his life but he only died because of alcoholism about 10 years ago. He was one of my favorite people in the world but he persevered! He wouldn’t talk about that day very much but one thing he remembered most and that ate away at him was remembering when his unit found them after the incident people had to pull off bits and pieces of his buddy off of my uncle to assess his condition. He never got over that part
War is a bitch. I was not an operator, tactical beard club, special or etc... just a guy. Went to war more than once and the experience was unforgettable. I had my moments and they were intense. I love this song ever since the first time I heard it. Means more to me now than it did back then. We are all damaged in one way or another due to what happened to us. But that is what makes life so good. I lived while others did not. I reckon I'm lucky. To all my bros who did not make it.
Rudy. USAF AMMO 81-07. Desert Storm, Deny Flight, Allied Force, Northern Watch, Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom.
What drew me to this song was not the band itself but the inspiration. The book and then movie of "Johnny Got his Gun" had a great impact on me when I was younger. It was the first book that I read that I threw across the room when I was finished with it because of the ending. "One" encapsulates the emotion, horror, confusion, and brutality of "Johnny Got his Gun" perfectly. It's haunting and flesh ripping at the same time. I absolutely adore it. ❤
Great editing.
