  • 1. 1 O God of my praise, don’t ignore me in silence!
    2 The lies of the wicked oppose me with torments.
    Their tongues have attacked me with cruel accusation.
    3 They’ve circled around me with words of revulsion;
    They’ve turned without cause and become my assailants
    4 Betraying my love, they’ve become my opponents.
    2. I have no resort but this pray’r to my Father!
    5 My good they despise and reward me with anger,
    My love they deride with a hateful aggression.
    6 So give him a king that will rule with oppression,
    And let accusations be brought by his rival.
    7 Condemn him for sin; let his pray’r become evil.
    3. 8 Let death take him soon; give his place to another.
    9 His children abandon, alone without father,
    His wife make a widow without a protector.
    10 Make beggars and tramps of his son and his daughter
    And let them seek bread straying far from their hovels.
    11 Let creditors rob him despite how he grovels.
    4. Let strangers extort all the fruit of his labor.
    12 Let none show him mercy, nor act as his neighbor;
    Do not let his fatherless sons be shown pity.
    13 Cut off his descendants; expelled from the city,
    In one generation their honor be wasted:
    Let hist’ry forget that he ever existed!
    5. 14 Recall ev’ry evil his fathers committed,
    See none of the crimes of his mother acquitted.
    15 Expose all their sin to Jehovah forever,
    So blot from the earth ev’ry thought of his favor.
    16 Because he forgot to relieve the forsaken,
    But tortured the needy and slaughtered the broken.
    6. 17 As he loved to curse, overwhelm him with cursing;
    As he would not bless, let him never find blessing.
    18 His garment was cursing he wore with approval,
    19 So make it his belt with no hope of removal.
    20 Let all who malign me have this condemnation;
    Reward them in kind for their false accusation.
