One of the glories of the magnificent tunes in the Genevan Psalter, is that they are effective at many different tempi. Over the centuries they have been enjoyed fast, slow, very fast and very slow. Thank you! Yes, most of what I record would take more than usual repetition to learn. But people can learn it effortlessly just by listening. I'm not sure what it means to read solfege. I thought that was a method of instruction. Can someone enlighten me?

Two reasons. I have limited resources, so I just make samples, usually up to 4 stanzas, to help you learn the tune. If I could earn money with my recordings, I might record all the stanzas of everything. But also, whenever I have recorded all the stanzas of something, I find myself getting tired of hearing myself sing it after 4 stanzas. If I'm tired of it, I imagine other people will be too. But of course, you can include vv.12 & 13 if you sing it! :-) That's what these recordings are for: to teach you the tunes so you can sing them. So, let's get singing!

Stay tuned! I've found a hidden cataract of Welsh hymn tunes I want to post. Scarcely a dozen are widely known, but searching through many old Welsh hymnals has turned up nearly 500 unique hymn tunes from Wales, 1800-1920. Someday soon I hope to upload them all at WelshHymnTunes.com. But it's not ready yet. Meanwhile I've included 51 Welsh tunes in the Treasury hymnal.

Thank you! The hymn tune genre is a genre of miniatures. A hymn tune needs to make its whole impact in under a minute, usually under 30 seconds, and stand up to an unusual degree of repetition. It's also one of the few types of music made specifically for non-musicians.
