  • Welcome to our series coverage of For All Mankind (on Apple TV+) by Story Archives. Join us week to week as we cover the hit Apple TV Plus show and it’s interesting retelling of how history would have unraveled had the space race never ended. In episode two of season four titled, ‘Have a nice Sol’, Danielle and Miles have arrived on Mars to two very different realities. While the higher-ranking officials up top live more comfortable lives in Happy Valley Base, those below like Miles, are met with harsh living conditions. Luckily for them, it seems Danielle is going to make things better. Meanwhile on Earth, Aleida teams up with Kelly Baldwin in an effort to continue pushing forward Kelly’s research outside of Nasa. Lastly, Margo gets a harsh dose of Soviet reality.
For All Mankind is an American science fiction drama television series created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi and produced for Apple TV+. The series dramatizes an alternate history depicting "what would have happened if the global space race had never ended" after the Soviet Union succeeds in the first crewed Moon landing ahead of the United States. The title is inspired by the lunar plaque left on the Moon by the crew of Apollo 11, which reads, in part, "We Came in Peace for All Mankind".

I feel like Hobson was very sensible in this situation. Aleida is a space engeneer with PTSD working on accute problems, should they arise in and around "Happy Valley". If she screws up there are potentially lifes at stake. So him trying to make sure, that she really has her head in the game is something I can absolutley comprehend. I also loved how Danielle immidiately recognized that the"lower decks" weren't happy with their situation. Danielle and Ed are like "Space-Mum and Spac-Dad". She is the softer more caring part and he is the "If it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger"-dad. I like their dynamic.

Agreed on both fronts. That crossed my mind as well with Hobson considering the day Aleida stormed off in her meltdown was the day Grigory and Parker died in the Asteroid Capture mission. Also love the space mum and dad analogy you made for Ed and Danielle- both have their strengths and weaknesses and both are necessary. Thanks for tuning in and sharing your takes!

C'mon guys: Do 5 minutes of research before you begin. The average distance from Earth to Mars is 140 million miles, but it varies from 33 million miles at closest approach to 240 million miles when Mars is opposite the sun. I don't remember Miles quoting any particular travel distance, but 150 million miles could be about right, even if he did the transfer at closest approach. Interplanetary distance and travel distance are two entirely different things; there is no such thing as a linear Earth-Mars transfer, since both planets are always in motion and everything in the solar system is in orbit around the sun. So if transfer occurs at closest approach (33 million miles), travel distance will always exceed 33 million miles, and usually by an enormous amount. I hope at some point we'll get to see how this 30-day trip to Mars works. At such high velocity, the ship will undoubtedly have to turn around at some point and perform a burn to reduce speed for orbital insertion. But I kinda get the feeling Ronald Moore is not really a physics guy, not a geek, more of a conventional storyteller, so maybe we'll never get to see any visual depiction of actual flight dynamics. I guess I've been spoiled by the excellent depiction of astrodynamics on The Expanse.

На здоровье (Na zdar-OV-ye) is a common Russian toast meaning 'To your health'. This is what Ilya says in the Pancho's ('speakeasy') scene. На здоровье is the Slavic equivalent of the Spanish toast 'Salud' or the French toast 'santé'.
