@@archstanton3430 Plays tend to be left-leaning because playwrights tend to be left-leaning. All artists do. And you can't write anything of substance without imprinting a point of view into it, it's not a deliberate plan or anything.
Artists go into the arts because they value artistic experiences and building community with their audiences more than they value a capitalistic idea of success. Conservatives are conservatives partially because they value a capitalistic idea of success. Therefore, conservatives rarely become artists (though they often secretly wish they were, and harbor secret resentments about it, which is kind of what's going on here.)

You judged an entire festival based on snippets from a biased reporter. This bias is exactly why you need to be brave enough to actually see what the SIX short plays were actually all about. Do you really believe that the reporting from a clearly left biased show was accurate and unslanted? Ex. "only 15 people in the audience opening night". True BECAUSE there was a snow weather advisory that evening. This is the midwest. We can get a foot of snow in the time it takes to see a show. Before you judge a whole festival on sound bites try seeing it next year. The motto is "Disagreement does not equal hate." Try it sometime.

I was shocked and very unimpressed that the silly man could not name anything like this at all. I get the feeling now that he must detest these plays and others like them SO MUCH that it must have been too painful for him to think about any of these titles or to form them into actual words. Plus many of these are still well known Broadway productions and that might not sit well with him either because people actually still pay money to see them today. Art should never be politics. I realize it can be but I do not believe in supporting any “art” theatre with a political backing. The whole point of theatre and film is to examine ideas and the world around us. It should make us question things, not answer the question for us. As a great acting teacher of mine told me and I’m paraphrasing, “If you’ve already or once you’ve answered the question of the play it is no longer thought provoking art, but rather political theatre.” These are not truly artistic creations. They are stories with no interpretation possible. They have an agenda and mimic propaganda such “The Birth of a Nation” or “The Triumph of Will” or “The Green Berets”. It’s a shame that so many are turning to the arts to continue telling people how to act and what to think. The theatre should be a place where you can thoughtfully think for yourself about what is presented. Be careful what so called art you consume. This isn’t about political views and whose are right-it’s about preserving the integrity of the arts.

I work in theatre as a professional. This show is a master class in how to put on a high school student work. Start the show with characters screaming at fever pitch with no where to go. Non motivated blocking with actor's stopping, robotically turning their torso to "cheat out". Utter the phrase "So will have the same...uh...LIGHTS, WHATEVER THEY ARE...for when we... for when PEOPLE are bringing furniture out." He doesn't know what god damn LIGHT means! I have never seen such self sabotaging country bumpkin BS in my life. I actually feel better about being poor, right now.

That theatre group was WAAYYY too ambitious when it came to choosing their venue for their shows. If anything, they should've gone for a smaller black box setup. Fewer seats in house overall, but it's better suited for smaller audiences, is a lot cheaper and can be more intimate with the viewers.

Sigh... Conservatism is such a losing game, man.
If anything, Conservativism is just a PC term for Tribalism. Whether it's a Protestant in North America, Muslim in the Middle East, or a Buddhist in East Asia -- it is just multiple sides of the same "coin". They're afraid of their culture dying yet they seem to forget because of pop culture and education that legacies live on: i.e. The Old West, Latin language, Persian Empire, even dead religions.
Besides, pop culture businesses in the west (where it's affordable to make theatre, films, music, etc) caters to more inclusive/diverse demographics because that's where the money is. Asia and Africa make up well over half of the 7 billion+ people in the world. And that, fellow Americans, means money (AKA the country's life source).

What they mean by “liberal theatre” is artists making points through their arts about social and economic injustices. Shit, I just described art.
There r literally thousands of plays about cis gender nuclear families. They don’t have many social injustices but ppl in the LGBT community do so that why plays r written about them, to normalize and give empathy to those communities.

It’s not that I don’t Mind if the play has political or social elements in it, it’s that if you want a play to be provocative and express your beliefs, I feel it should maybe be more subtle and less just outright saying it. I haven’t seen this persons play so I can’t say how I would feel about them making it, but from the looks of it, it just seems like your preaching to the quire.

Ok...what are the shows that supposivly portray conservatives as "bumpkins." Many of the most well-known plays focus on traditional families (well I say that but it tends to be families with issues because theatre 🤣) There has only been an uptick in theatre with more diversity/themes surrounding LGBTQ+ and other previously controversial standpoints within the last few decades. I dont see why they're upset.
