Edgar is one of the few people who could go into a studio by himself, produce and play all the instruments and come out with a completed recording. On top of that it would be first class. Both Winter brothers have recorded some of the best songs going over the last 50 years. Rip Johnny.
Edgar had a terrific voice. Dying to Live is a great illustration.
Both Brothers were part of my growing up in the 70s ,, lots of partys lots of fun , RIP Jonny ,,,Great Music ,, always a good man even in troubled times
The man sang like an angel too. Anyone who heard him in the earlier years knows his singing was as great as anyones!
People should check out Edgar Winter They only come out at night, great stuff!
Saw Edgar Winter back in the '90s at the andouille festival in Louisiana great show
Edgar - great guy with a lot of insight into things.
Saw Edgar Winter in 1977 at the West Palm Beach Auditorium. What a concert, he played Frankenstein and after that Johnny came out on stage. The concert really rocked out then. One of my favorite memories from my concert era. Thanks for the memories.
Edgar's debut LP "Entrance' is an amazing piece of musicianship. Some of the first Jazz-fusion efforts, Edgar in my opinion has the lions share of the Winter Brothers respective level of talent.
Not sure about that. Johnny is one of the great players to ever pick up a guitar. Edgar a great writer too..id would call it a draw. 2 absolute musical freaks
Was blessed to have been in the Winter Brothers scene at different times....Johnny at the original Woodstock, when he recorded his live album at the Fillmore East (funny how can have a memory but never recreate that "feeling")....I worked security at a Edgar Winter concert in Albuqurque NM and was back stage and met Edgar....I also saw the two of them together somewhere on Long Island...always high energy and true to the blues.
What a very modest and humble SUPERSTAR. The younger generation should take a leaf out of his book and explore the vast musical universe.
I met Edgar at the Doheny Blues festival in Dana Point, CA back in '99 or so. He was a very, very gracious man, and very friendly. It was almost like he couldn't believe that all these people loved him. Very humble. Could be because he's been somewhat overshadowed by Johnny (who was also playing the festival). Johnny sat just offstage during Edgar's set, and vice-versa. Everybody was hoping they'd hook up onstage, but no luck.
I love this man!
I wish Edgar would write a book about themselves...both of em love, brother Ray‼️
This is great stuff! Music Education! Thanks Winter Family for your Music, Johnny and Edgar, my family and I have had the pleasure of opening for them both in Cedar Rapids, IA.. THANK YOU AND HELLO FROM THE JANEYS
Been a fan since 1974!!!!
How can someone so cool play so hot? Johnny & Edgar are the tippy top of the entire musical spectrum. The BEST!!!
Had the opportunity to talk to Edgar at the monitor mix at a club in '99' while Johnny was tear'in it up on stage. He told me about his 'Winter Blues' CD the was com'in out in a day or 2. This is a great CD with a lot of great blues players on it! On of my favorites!
If Johnny Winter lived 70 yrs and six months I hope the great EDGAR WINTER will live 10 decades being half Albinid himself.DYING TO LIVE - Edgar's friend and ours hopefully ,Cat Stevens ,arrived at Heathrow and they said we have to search you for pot and he said SEARCH IT YUSEF.Chris Young an old Fiddler of Albuquerque NM ( D A E B), love the songs, people and " the day"
He plays a mean sax, I seen him years ago at the chestnut cabaret Philadelphia pa, what an amazing night that was, we were standing right up to the stage passing around mother nature, it was magical, everyone was so cool and just digging the music, after that The J. Geils Band came on stage I never knew until that night what a fantastic guitar player he really was, and if that wasn't enough to top the night off a beautiful blond with blue eyes took me to her place afterward.
MAN THEY BOTH WERE GIFTED BEYOND ANYONE I HEARD OF OTHER THAN STEVIE WONDER
What a contract to his brother johnny. This series is fantastic.
Anyway ... I LUV THEM BOTH !!!
wie auch immer ... ich liebe beide !!!
He has a gentle, southern accent.......
the blues is here and now more than ever.
Im going to see Edgar with Rick Derringer & Ringos all stars this summer in A.C.Oh Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
watch the brothers video of tobacco road, it is mindblowing
Edgar didn't mention Freddie King as an influence on Johnny.....He must have forgot.
Freddie influenced so many. Certainly JW
Sounds like you just don't know where to look. The young players today have such a great foundation to build on, thanks to the talents of earlier generations, who really didn't have anywhere near as much to draw on. Keep looking. There are more great bands than ever before.
I agree wholeheartedly.
Big D, most albinos don't make it past 40, much less 60. The WInter brothers are both in great shape, regardless of youthful indiscretions. Two fine, talented, devoted treasures who have spent their lives enriching ours. What have you done?
Very talented
The blues had a baby.
Edgar, what instrument do you play? Edgar:yes
You're right
I've met both Johnny and Edgar. I love them both, but Johnny needs to get clean. Edgar is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Not that Johnny isn't, but they're just two very different people.
@123bamtobam No, he's married.
I wasn't making any excuses, nor need I. Perhaps a little self examination is in order before you start casting stones, at Johnny . . . or me.
I sure argree with that. Stick w/music. Johnny's is great, so's is Edgar's.
Anybody whose main influence was Ray Charles is okay with me.
You could say that. I assist people disabled from birth to fit into society as much as they wish. It is my sincere hope is that I'm thus an ENABLER.
I don't praise Johnny for doing drugs or burning his candle at both ends, but I certainly would not berate the man for physical disabilities that he did not choose.
This is not the proper venue for this discussion.
Is he blind??
Nearly yes
Johnny can't stand because he broke his hip and it didn't heal properly. He is legally blind and I think his tats are superb. Each has meaning to him. Plus, his skin is a perfect canvas for an ink artist.
@beeroosterm No he doesn't. Boy George is feminine.
@123bamtobam I don't think he sounds feminine at all.
Edgar is gay johnny told me my cousin lived in port author
Johnny in "great shape" not so much. I saw him a couple of years ago and he has many health issues. He even needs to be helped out onto the stage, and plays the whole concert sitting down. Still a great talent!
He was albino, discriminated against & bullied, legally blind, beat a heroin addiction, had a sleazy manager who got him hooked on pain killers, out on the road, after breaking his hip...it takes a SPECIAL, SUPERNATURAL TALENT to triumph over those factors‼️
these cats today don't have a clue.
if you were part of this by-gone era concider yourself lucky. the music biz today is tone deaf.
these musicians interviewed ( all great) wouldn't stand a chance in todays music biz if they were just starting out.
I just can't understand how intelligent lucid people get sucked into Scientology or any religion for that matter. I differentiate religion from a knowledge of the Divine nature of creation and our part in it but why do we think we need some joker in a black robe to intermediate between us and God ? Of course in the end it doesn't matter, there's no blame no judgement no hell as the fear mongers would have us believe.
