So you want a rule of one of the lobbies of AOE2 where 2 players aren't allowed to attack a 3rd one at the same time? Those FFAs run for hours, the record being 13 hours, as casted by T90. Professional players don't have time for that. It won't be fun to spectate either, after the 1st time. On this particular map, if 3 of them hadn't teamed up, the game would have run another hour or so!

@@achilles8804 The only spirit in a competition is winning. Other 5 players were free to team up as well. It is still FFA because in the end only 1 person came 1st. Beasty had to work for that plan all along. If others couldn't do anything about it, it's their issue. Certainly not ruining anything for me.
I've mostly been a big fan of the alliances, and I think on the whole they are still very cool, but this game left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. It was very anticlimactic as soon as you can see that the bot 3 players are allied. It just becomes the three of them ganging up on everyone else and then agreeing to split the win between themselves. The rest of the players never really stand a chance and then they just collect easy points. On the whole I LOVE this tournament, so much that I want it to become a mainstream thing that we get to see a LOT more of, but this triple alliance felt a little...crappy? Lame? IDK. Just a bit of a letdown for the game.
Honestly, think that was just a mistake of the other players. When they recognized the triple alliance, they should have formed themselves instead of attacking each other. Someone should have communicated that they were allied, and then have helped some of the others recover rather than finish them. For example, if Dinkey had communicated with Snoopa and let him recover, that could have been enough to at least take out one of the three before splitting up. Same with Dinkey and Puppypaw.

By the time they 3rd or 4th assault of all 3 vs dinkey, maybe it was too late of changingn their minds, compromising their alliance Though that 1 v 3 was ideally epic in a specific way lol
I wish we could see the chat log throughout the game because in these types of games, points, army sizes, position, etc etc, are collectively only half the game. The conversation between players constitutes the other half of how the game plays out.
There should be a Gigachad rule that if a player defends for X time against Y players they get bonus points. IE living 10 minutes 3v1 is 5 points. Living 15 against a 2v1 is 3. And so forth. The 3v1 etc being an 'all in' style attack like we saw the 3 army charge into Dinky.
I think that they didn't have the resouece to defend the sacred site. Also, the only way to defend them would be if the ally against beasty, but beasty has so many resource and high score, that beasty will be the second place, which means that the ally that protect the sacred site but didn't capture will be third place. So, it wasn't a good allience at the end
Exactly, they could have used the faster sacred site timer to bait out beasty's army and then sniped the wonder. They basically donated this game to beasty.
Maybe awarding points to players who successfully hold for a time against teams of 3+ players would discourage this, dinkey was a hero for holding so long!
I fully concur with a midstream rule change... 3v1 alliances make for bad viewing. Watching the never ending triple team against Dinky... an eye roll with every single wave.
I saw this game on twitch but came here to leave my like and comment to show my support. Been loving so much these FFA Game of Thrones type of shesh So much more strategy involved, basically every game have the spices that we all love!
Problem there comes in with China and the Abbasid, heavy China games would be flush with points but taking out the Abbasid would be very unworth the effort
There should be additional points for Kills, I am pretty sure Dinkey King had the most kills in this game. And Beastyqt is a Genius, he knew they will come for snipe with cav, so he made Spears... now, anyone his position would have wasted those resources on most expensive units or most DPS units.
did beasty ever get the stone trade upgrade? i noticed his ships didnt bring in stone, so either the upgrade doesnt afect trade ships or he forgot, which kinda makes sense since its an upgrade thats at the market and he probaly never made one
The judges shouldn’t try and ban alliances. Not attacking you’re neighbours until the opportune moment is a natural and intelligent way to play FFA. And it’s very fun for us to watch.
that late game bullying of dinkeyking reminds me of some modded ultra hard custom maps VS ai in supreme commander, map is just filled with hostiles moving in formation towards your base and if you cant set up a wall of turrets and defense to grind them down, they will grind you down instead.
These are so entertaining to watch but I can’t help but be a little disappointed with how these pro players keep treating teams, several of these games have ended with one super player winning bc another player or players work with them the whole time and gift wrap the victory for them. Dinkey was clearly beaten and out of the game for all intents but both Core and Recon continued hard focusing him regardless of Beasty having 30k score and Dinkey only having a few thousand
Agreed, you would expect to see the alliances break up far earlier. But the players are just doing what the rules reward. When they see they are in a losing position they are very quick to surrender to the leading player in exchange for better position and points. This all leads to snowballing as there is no incentive to try and topple the leader. I think if it was winner take all you would see much more chaotic game, since you have nothing to lose by fighting back.

This game has been hella fun to watch what an amazing map which promoted beautiful gameplay. I think something needs to nerf teaming but not remove it. This 3 team was interesting because beasty just hard played the other 2 and core could have gone for a sacred victory. Although this win happening might itself discourage the naive alliance that recon and core took part in.

Oooh... if an admin deems that your alliance contributed to your victory, all players in the alliance split the points. And that's all people that "collaborated". Makes two team alliances maybe feasible... 3 teams start diminishing returns for everyone

Players that don't ally should get 3 bonus points and +1 bonus point for solo non-alliance kills. That gives players a gauranteed 7 points for killing someone and playing solo which heavily encourages early aggression and massively benefits anyone that can kill 2-3 players and doesn't just camp in a corner for an hour.
Going from bloodbaths to the soap operas? That's something new. BTW, if you wanna to disable this much of teaming, just disable the scores for how long you've survived.

To be honest, China is not the best civ to play on ffa, it is the Mongols. The ability to get all resources from bounty and trading is so damn OP. In late game when everybody is selling stuff to get wood/stone/gold, the mongols just get those for “free” and that’s it’s a huge advantage. Plus the ability to move your landmarks and all those damn outpost…
China's definitely the best, remember that ffa when everybody thought that the 2 China lost, and they were the last 2 left? Also, Beasty made a tier list on ffa civs(and it's not just him but also other people that play ffa) and China was no 1 by a longshot.
Those alliances completely ruin the game imo. I was super interested in the project at first but now it just feels like people playing vs duos or trios in pubg. Whats the point of a competetive game mode when you just have teams sniping single players
Some of the 2 man teams in the past few games were interesting, but the 3 man took it a step too far. Until the final game it works for people to team up and take 1/2/3 spot to advance. Maybe for the next round limit alliances to pairs at most, at least people stand a chance to defend and other solos or duos have a chance to punish aggressors. In this game no one could take half the map whilst the alliance was attacking someone else.
Definitely not entirely random, that would probably make some really terrible unplayable maps. Having resources concentrated in the middle helps create conflict instead of everyone just turtling in corners

You don't have to split points on landmark kills. Just count the number of buildings razed for each player to see who got the last hit. 25:32
I think Landmarks don't get counted. I've seen my postgame where I've sniped my opponent and there was fewer than buildings razed

I think it’s more this map than the alliance rule. Everyone’s too separated by water so the alliances lasted longer.

Dinkey doing Kingdom of Heaven defense shit is the highlight of this match. I admire what he did. Everything after that were pretty much predictable.

How about making it so scoring isn't just about winning, but about killing the most land marks. Points per land mark kill. No wonder victory.

Maybe for the next round limit alliances to pairs at most, at least people stand a chance to defend and other solos or duos have a chance to punish aggressors.
In this game no one could take half the map whilst the alliance was attacking someone else.

Dude. ALL of these maps have had a strong center with 3 SS’s stacked on top of one another. I’m beginning to think it’s less random.
Definitely not entirely random, that would probably make some really terrible unplayable maps. Having resources concentrated in the middle helps create conflict instead of everyone just turtling in corners

I enjoy the alliances as a viewer, but I feel as a ruling kinda perspective, it’s sensible to rule out alliances.
