Abby has only Maidened two RC Planes ever before this and they were MUCH smaller than the Mini Apprentice S RTF so nerves are at an all time high! Not only that, but today happens to be a very windy day!! Can Abby successfully maiden this Ready To Fly Electric RC Plane with NO HELP from Nate?! This should be a fun video!!

Great job, Abby! You always get so nervous and fly so high. You are a better pilot than you give yourself credit for. The smaller planes are much more difficult to fly than large ones. Just pretend your flying a small plane and you'll do great. You are a great pilot!

Great Job Abby, I have over 40 years flying experience, I just flew a Mini Apprentice yesterday for the first time. There was an 82 year old gentleman who showed up at our field looking for some flight training with the Mini Apprentice. My initial impressions are that anything above 1/4 - 1/3 throttle and the plane just wanted to climb like a homesick angel, In fact on my maiden I used all the available down trim and it still wanted to climb. I landed and made some mechanical adjustments to the elevator pushrod to add some down, the next flight was better but it still wanted to climb, even with no throttle it wanted to climb, the hardest thing about flying this plane is that it does not want to land, you have to put a lot of down stick input in to get it to land, sorry you're just going to have to get used to putting in down input. Anyway after a little more mechanical adjust it flew a little better, not want to climb as much, but still wanting to climb. Oh yeah the 82 year gentleman without any prior R/C experience was able to land on his first flight.

Abby you did great. I teach newbies how to fly. I always use the mini Apprentice or the Apprentice. I have had hundreds of flights. You flew in the top 5 percent of all the students I have taught. I teach to fly two mistakes high and you were just about right. Fly on high rates and practice small movements on the sticks. Without safe you rarely need full stick deflection to fly. Your hubby has already told told you this I am sure. Great job . Blue skys.

A suggestion: Instead of flying in circles fly in eights. That way you turnd both left and right. And great job Abby, just got to work a little on those nerves, and learn the layout of the transmitter so you can find the trims without looking. That makes life easier.

Hmm_ I did not get any of her being in the comfort zone at all, Joel. But as I have been a follower for MANY years, going way back to about Nov.-Dec. 2012, I can say she IS much better, but hopefully she will stop allowing the plane to keep gaining altitude as it comes towards her - always does that. If she would just listen to Nate she would fly much better. But again, she has improved a TON over the last few years.

Can we deduct from Nates comments about Abbys dead sock that Abby has "dead" feet?:D lol
You're doing great Abby. It looks like you have a good "connection" with the controls, a good feel if you like. I fully get where you're coming from with the nervousness, but as Nate says, don't worry. IF, and simply, IF you crash, so what? Things can be fixed and all we do is laugh it off. As a vet flyer, I will give you this advice. Think less and relax. The more you think and tense up, the less contact you will have with the plane. Don't forget that while things can obviously go wrong, fact is that in terms of reaction times, you have more than one might think. I know it's easy to sit on this side being Mr. Clever, but it's just suggestions.
I have a buddy of mine whom got into rc planes about two years ago, and he had a few mishaps, so now he's anxious about flying. We found that it works well for him to go by himself for a bit before, and basically clear his mind, a bit of focusing and relaxation. Again, consider the fact that there are limits as to how bad things can go, and remember that if things go pear shaped, you do have time to think and correct. Panic only serves to remove focus and speed things up. If the plane does something funny, so what? The sticks are right there, and all you need is a small input. You have all the time in the world and you can make several corrections within a second. You'll get it Abby, don't worry, I'm sure Nate will concur with me. Looking at your flying, it is easy to see that you have a good feel for flying. Sometimes you see people whom are simply not "wired" for it. Can they learn ut? Yes, but it will never become second nature and they will never be good at it. That's not you. You fly well and it's easy to see that it comes natural to you. You need to break down what ever barrier it is you have, that makes you tense up and "panic". I'm aware that your eyesight plays into it, I have a similar issue, but still. Try to find a calm place inside, as that will increase your reaction times, your focus, and ultimately your enjoyment.
You're good at it and you'll get even better. Enjoy the flying and enjoy the crashes. I still crash after 25 years of flying, and all it hurts is the wallet and my pilot pride - who cares lol. Are there positives to crashing? Yup. Hours of laughing and funny stories to tell:)
Have a great RC week guys:)

Mine didn't fly 😐 It arrived Monday. I put it together, tried the controls, motor runs. All looks OK. Beautiful day Sunday. Calm, Sunny, Warm. Took it out to the flying field. Checked the controls, all looks fine. Throttle it up... groan groan groan it makes about 60rpm. Took the cowl off to see if something was wrong with the motor and the black wire dropped off the motor 🙄 I'm a technical guy, but that looks beyond my soldering ability. Horizon says pack it up and send it back. Maybe next Sunday?

I sympathize with her. I just got this plane and crashed it because I couldn’t get it to come down. Fortunately they sell all the parts.
