You can't say he wasn't a great perfomer... he got people on UA-cam reacting to it 51 years later to sing along to it. 😁

With all the great songs he recorded this was his only #1 in the U.S. charts, too.

Chuck's live shows sometimes included a few lyrics that couldn't be in the recorded versions. He was a lot of fun.

Remember when he was in Sweden and on swedish TV with that song. My parents didn't understand english. If they had I think they would have been in a shock

In my opinion "My Ding A Ling", was one of his good songs.
    Check out "Johnnie B. Goode".

Believe it or not, many people, including me, consider this guy the true king of Rock and Roll. Roll Over Beethoven, Johnny Be Goode.... He has a best-of collection called the Great 28. Only problem, it was missing at least 4 hits. If you've ever seen Pulp Fiction, his song, You Never Can Tell, was used for the dance sequence. You Can't Catch Me, the black and white version from the 50s, would be a great song to react to.

@@nathanjasper512 No, not at all. It's a pity people hear My Ding-a-ling before they hear his great great Rock and Roll songs.

If you grew up during this time, he put in alot of hidden messages. Makes for an interesting time when this song came out.

Hihi.. Tysheen, I just came across ya video of ur opinion of Chuck Berry's My ding~O Ling... 1st of all that was a live version, if u listen to his regular version it's tha dam bomb!. I'm 51 'n it's tha childhood memory song from my family... my daddy was a hunter & when it was time to go that was tha song that we played "out loud" at 4am in tha morning as we all was leaving.. tha hole block new.. an't no~ body gonna complain cuz those that didn't like it was playing w/ their own! I'm now a mum of 5, Nana of 11 grand~ babies.. they all know it by heart, it's tha 1st thing they learn. Generation-2- Generation... Now I was brought up to have an open mind about all, it really hurts when those that just base their opinion so quicky.. altho 2day what's tha words in all music- it's raw, violent and abusive... but ya all jam to it ...

When that song came out I was in grammar school we had a substitute teacher. We were horse playing she got mad and shouted stop playing and I shouted with my Ding a ling and the girls sang my and the boys shouted my Ding a long. It was so funny. Of course I got suspended for a day.

In the 60's, that song would be banned from the radio stations to play

I wonder how he felt about this song literally being his only #1 hit. Was he happy, or did he later regret recording it in the same way that people also misinterpreted Randy Newman’s 1977 song _Short People_ ?

The original version was wrote (and also sung!) by Dave Bartholomew in the early 50' . His version was way unfiltered. :D (BTW He also was the guy who wrote for, produced, and play for Fats Domino) Cheers! :)
