- For best results, listen to this video on headphones and try to follow the sound, the values can be variable among different synthesizers, but the key is the same.
You can sculpt the sound with an equalizer and other effects.
I just wanted to use the synthesizer´s capabilities.
Enjoy making sounds and tweaking knobs!
Wow, this was a invaluable tutorial in understanding how this bass lines was created. My ears told me lots was going on, but I didn’t have basic understanding of the parameter tweaking needed to dial it in. So much info here for me to study! Thanks!
what Flood (producer) telled in interviews its a mix of ARP-2600 and Moog
was created nothing like this faffing around..........
classic Alan Wilder's bassline magic, great job recreating it 😄👍🏻
Bassline was made by Flood.
What classic Alan???? Please explain
@@davidgahan-ks5jhAlan created most of DM's basslines, as a producer, enhanced many of Martin's basic basslines, yeah, this one may have actually been made by Flood, only they know
no, it was made by Alan with Flood's Roland System 700 modular synth, tho Flood showed him how to use the synth @@Antonio-sd5yn
Wow really cool!!! We all love this bassline
Aside from being the first video on this subject to actually get it right, this is also a celebration of thoughtful sound design and the work that it involves- glad this popped up in my feed. Well done
I love the amount of detail you've put into this
Amazing video. One listens to the track and you think wow, what a synth bassline. Will appreciate it a lot more knowing the intricate work that goes into making it.
What a great video! Many thanks for this!
Good job!!!! Genius synth!!! i like this!!! Thanks Dave Smith!!! (and you, Gonzalo Pérez F!!!) :)
Bravo! That's a lesson of "sound sculpting"!
Celso MF Thanks Celso👍
This is really cool! Awesome!
simply amazing!!!
Un grand bravo et un grand merci 😊
Exclelent sinthesizer. Congratulations good job
Awesome work. Respect.
Wow! Fantastic!
I've been trying to figure out how that bassline (and another similar one on Cause and Effect's What Do you See) has been done for 30 years. Thanks for the video!
Wow, nice work👏👏👏
Greaaaat!!! Love this ! Remain be Dark night.
Shabat Shalom ..❤
Excellent job mate !
Great job, very good sequence !

Thank you very much ! I'll try this on my Minibrute 2 👍👍👍

imagine how much effort it took to make in the first place way back in 1989
Amazing!
Very good work

Very good job Bro! Cheers!
Thanks dude!
Amazing job man, perfect!
jeanphilippepoitras Thanks man👍
PERFECT
Rodrigo Laporte Thanks😎
Great !
Brilliant!...Just like Alan Wilder (the best) super composer to the best synth bass line ever!
Didn’t Andy Fletcher do the bass? I swear he always did basslines
Flood created this one.
How did Alan this thing???
I wonder.
It's all of the best for all times...
Incredible...
Like!
ROLAND 700 MODULAR
@@MrBeen992 korg MS 10 actually..
@@chloedevereaux1801 LOL, NO. it was definetely a Roland System 700. I spoke with Flood about that
@@MrBeen992 Wow. Cool!
Oh yeah!
Gracias
En la tienda de teclados
@@MrBeen992 🥁 Crash!
why the 89 dislikes ? ,they've obviously clicked the wrong button by mistake .twats ...........excellant job
>> does any one Know what instrument DM usted ti create this bassLine?.. in some videos si possible ese año Emulator… but what do you think?
DAMN.
wow 🙂
Fucking beautifl, bro. This is the job. good done
What did they have as a, like, master 'brain' sending out the midi clock when they did this tour?
They had a tape machine backstage. Everything else was played live. Any sequencer-type parts (like this bassline) would be on tape. They were playing the melodic and chordal parts live. So the answer is, there was no midi clock to the performers, they just played their keyboards. Saw this tour, as well as the previous two. To me, those were the deepest most vibey Mode shows. After that it got a bit 'rock' for my tastes.
so great... would that work on the pro-3 also?
yeah, it works even better because the Pro 3 has a 64 steps sequencer
@@gonzz_f awesome.. loving your videos!
Awesome sequenz! I have a Pro2 too, what do you use as base sound? I´m very close to yours, but somthing is missing.
Hi Ha Wei , there’s no base sound, just start from an initial patch.
@@gonzz_f thanks Gonzalo.
Hey Gonzalo, I started with the initial patch, but my Pro2 has a different sound on the basis program. Did you alter the initial sound before you recorded the video? Just ask fo interest.
Ha Wei, no way, what you see is what you hear, the initial sound for every oscilator is a pulse wave, pay attention to every detail, i’m sure you’ll find the way, there’s no hidden tricks
This is awesome. Could I use a sample of this to create a backing track in garageband? I will link to your video
Sure 👍
@@gonzz_f thank you!
@@gonzz_f ua-cam.com/video/FaNIuVW99G8/v-deo.html
Awesome man, but can it be done on a virtual synth something like a plug in in daw???
Reinbows End Sure, just follow the steps👍
@@gonzz_f thank man, I will
Wow, that's really almost identical and spot on. I'm a huge DM fan, and I've listened to that song hundreds (if not thousands) of time. Great job man! What synth are you using???
muzikluvah72 Thanks dude, the machine is a Dave Smith Pro-2.
Sounds amazing .. just need David Gahan simulator
Yeeeeaaaaah
I love it BUT (I hate to be that guy) but this pattern is only the first 2 measures of a 4 bar pattern. Bars 3 and 4 are very different from 1 and 2. You have to listen to the song carefully, even slow it down a little to hear the pattern in bars 3 and 4. On the 3rd bar, you clearly hear additional beats come in. Even I am having trouble isolating the exact pattern to 3 and 4. And it's driving me INSANE! ;) - aaaaand I found a bass tab video that expands on this one. BTW....fkn-awesome dude!
That's right, but the sequencer of Pro-2 only has 32 steps, on a pro 3, with 64 steps I would have done it that way. 😉
when adding the velocity...theres 12 values...for 16 notes??
Ignore me...theres only actually 12 notes in the 16 step sequence...apologies :-)
Stephen Hill that’s it 👍
Totalmente! Por eso perduran
Masterpiece. But Alan is the best🤘
Sure, he’s the boss 🎹
Great work! but what are the actual notes per step?
ua-cam.com/video/vhifAMrZTZ8/v-deo.html
There are only two notes in this
section. C & D#
I'm not worthy to watch this.
Cejo! Cejo!
The original bass line sequence is 64 steps (4 bars long ), not 32.
I know, but the pro 2 only allows me to program 32 steps, if you want to program all the patterns you can play the sequence from an external device.
@@gonzz_f Its a shame that such a powerful synth only has 32 steps.
The reply I was looking for. My OCD unnecessarily over-replied to this video. I didn't realize it was only a 32 step sequencer. I wish I could figure out the other 32 steps to the bass line. Differs from the first 2 bars.
Hey could you PLEASE do more of those sound patch creating step by step tutorials possibly could you do more Depeche Mode older stuff like you did with “See You”??? Are you by chance on fb messenger I’d love to chat with you if you could?
thats a bit a good!!!
what synth is this?
Dave smith Pro-2 (Discontinued)
@@gonzz_f thank you!
I have heared that during "Devotional Tour" something strange happened and Alan had to recreate all such settings needed to continue next leg of the tour.It took 2 weeks...
I dont think he returned to Puk Studios in Denmark to recreate the bass line in the Roland 700 it was created. Probably used backing tracks.
Leslie Cruz I don’t think it was Alan’s I think it belonged to Goh Hotoda I think he used that to create then sample it to the Emax III
@@scottptolomey3498 exacrly
Reminds me of an Apollo service module.
Can this be achieved on a pro 3?
Of course but the pro 3 only has a 16-step sequencer, it takes a minimum of 32 steps, however you can sequence it from your daw through a midi connection
@@gonzz_f yeah, it takes a minimum of 32 steps but the bass line is really 64 steps (4 bars long), not 32.
Charlie Angel I know, unfortunately pro2 only allows me to use 32 steps.
@@gonzz_f It is a pity. Such a powerful instrument with effects and all but only 32 step sequencer...
@@gonzz_f hello mate. so the same effect can be achieved by sending a midi 64 step sequence from ableton that has velocity modulation data equivalent to yours. I though it might have been the filter envelope changing too but it's just the way the velocity effects the particular wave form you have created
B R A V I S S I M O
Electric Jam Thanks Electric😉
You can leave free this sequence in nowdays disco and you'll have thousands people dancing for hours... and hours.. and hours!
How the Heck did you learn this?
Blackhawk556 I only use my ears to try to get closer to the original sound and a lot of practice👍
Amazing job man! contraz !! @@gonzz_f
At 02:10 you've made the Blasphemous Rumours bassline as well
And the Reason appeared
Great, but you have a nasty click sound. How can you get rid of that?
I had a dream that had 88 keys 💥🎹💥
Basically wave sequencing
in reality Gore setted that velocity trigger random
Gore never did that. He composed the original (slow) version on an harmonium. Flood and Wilder created this funky bass line.
Osc 10 Pulse Wave
Alan Wilder baby
!!!
Great sound but the original bass pattern is in 4 bars and not 2.
Styles2psr I know, but the pro 2 only allows me to program 32 steps, if you want to program all the patterns you can play the sequence from an external device.
@@gonzz_f Ok i see.
THERES GOT TO BE A WAY TO PLAY THIS WITHOUT ALL THAT PROGRAMING... THE PATTERN AND THE VELOCITY DATA SHOULD BE GENERATED DIRECTLY ON THE KEYBOARD WITHOUT ALL THAT KNOB TWEAKING AND BUTTON EDITING...
How TF does this get 89 dislikes? People are weird!
Should be 89k
You forgot the melody.
This is not typical version
Klingt so ähnlich, ist es aber nicht
If doesn’t switch to another key I’m gonna lose it😂😂😂😂😂🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
