I watched spirit untamed, worst mistake of my life
Follow my letterbox then, it has the same name
Fun fact: The Invisible Man (1933) has a total body count of 122. 4 murders depicted directly on-screen, 18 search-party members off-screen, and the derailment of a train which results in 100 deaths. In total, Dr. Griffin kills 122 people before he is killed, making him one of the most bloodthirsty villains of the old Universal Pictures horror films.
thanks james
This has been the kill count.
Be good people
Strongly recommend diving into Cassavetes films, Mikey and Nicky is a lot like his directorial efforts. Faces, Opening Night and Love Streams are all brilliant, Love Streams is my favorite but best enjoyed after a familiarity with the rest of his work.
How would you say his film Husbands is? I’ve seen your letterboxd review but I was just wondering, it was the first film of his I’ve watched. Was it a good choice or a bad one?
Also, HEY JOEL!! 👋
Best crosssover ever
i gotta watch the rest! faces is an all time fav
@@jaivirmalhotra15 I think Husbands is Cassavetes at his most Cassavetes for better and worse. It’s utterly fascinated with human behavior and utterly unconcerned with entertaining or presenting a straightforward narrative. I’d say it’s a great watch for a diehard Cassavetes fan but definitely not a great first watch or indicative of his entire filmography. I usually recommend Faces first!
Criterion has a great Cassavetes set (and a great Demy set too)
Yesss he is back. Your channel got me into expanding my film horizons from just blockbusters to everything under the sun. Thank you!
Me too. This is my number one place to discover new movies
Now that you've left your home: welcome to the world!
haha same, discovered one of my fav movies from here
In November I watched my mental state slowly detiriate as I slowly fall into a quarantine bliss
Dude I watched that one too!
The good, the bad, the ugly is a fucking classic. LOVE IT SO MUCH. I've also been watching succession and goddamn, this season is amazing. The recent episode had me so invested, and can't wait for the final episodes to release soon.
My favourite!
Ken will commit suicide I feel it coming
I saw tick tick book after spending my whole life watching Rent, and it was so amazing getting to see how Johnathon Larson got to that point in his writing. You should totally watch Rent if you haven’t already
The pro-shot, not the movieee!!
this month i watched the grand budapest hotel, my first wes anderson movie (!!) and it was a *great* time, I can't wait to dive into some of his other works :) I also watched the before trilogy, and I think i've been stuck in a dream since...
I think my first was fantastic mr Fox, and I loved Royal tenenbaums
@@elmandarin1002 I can’t wait for both of those! I remember seeing bits of mr fox on tv years ago but never saw the full thing, it’ll be great :D
the before trilogy 💗💗💗
The Grand Budapest is Wes at his most Wes. In other terms, it's really really good. I think it's his best movie so I wouldn't go into all of his other ones expecting the same thing. Not to say that they're bad at all- you can still expect the same style and charm- but they're displayed in different ways. I would go for The Royal Tenenbaums (dramatic, heartfelt and sad but strangely optimistic ultimately) or Fantastic Mr. Fox (lighthearted, funny, yet dramatic and contemplative at times) next. Moonrise Kingdom is a great one about the simplicities of young love if that appeals to you. His earlier work is great too but those are a good place to start.
I still need to watch the Before Trilogy so your input definitely makes me want to put it towards the top of my list
Before trilogy.
glad you finally go to watch fantastic mr fox! one of my favorites, hope you had a good first viewing :)
Love the term “Big Boy Classic” and plan on using it in my everyday life. Thanks Karsten!
I've watched The Sparks Brothers about 3 times now, and I think it flies by each time. I honestly don't get some people's criticism that it was too long. I was never bored once, and there's honestly not a single second from it I'd want to remove. Plus with how extensive Sparks' history and catalogue of work is, I'd say that running time is more than justified.
being 15 and wanting to go into the film industry in the future, your videos rly make me appreciate and think way deaper than i thought i could think about a movie. These videos are really the highlight of my month.
If you have any means of recording things and writing scripts, I urge you to start your amateur career now on the side. Upload them to UA-cam, use it as a portfolio if you can. Hell, make videos on TikTok or whatever you use, but always try to learn more; you're at the right age for learning things, getting messy, and making mistakes that don't cost you (exorbitant amounts of) money. Go forth and create!
@@SobiTheRobot thank you and yes i am trying to do a lot, like doing young film makers courses etc.
this must be what Karsten watched in November
“i guess lin manuel miranda does know what he’s doing” made me laugh😭
YES WE NEED A SUCCESSION UPDATE
So, after your glowing recommendation of "the long goodbye", which I had never heard of before, I immediately tried to find it and watch it to see if it was any good.
And after watching it, I must say I love it. Its a shame the film never talked about because its such a funny, intriguing and cleverly written movie. This simplicity and excellent film making create a really memorable experience. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for 1,000,000/5 score or I might not have bothered.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly not even getting nominated for best original score is the biggest crime in the history of the Academy.
Karsten, you should watch Arcane. One of the best animated projects of all time
you beat me to it
swear this is the first time one of these has come out BEFORE the month ends
Karsten have you considered watching Indian films? If you have a criterion channel subscription I would highly recommend films by satyajit Ray and Mani ratnam
I watched The Monster Squad, French Dispatch, and Dune (four times). I would have watched Dune a 5th time but they took it off HBO Max before I could. I knew very very little about the source material going in and deliberately avoided most trailers. It just scratches every itch for me. I understand that it's not a movie for everyone, but it's certainly a movie for me.
Ooh, Monster Squad! That's a fun one.
Dune is great. French Dispatch is like soul food for me and Monster Squad is fun.
ily karsten , great vid as always:)
This month seemed like a great one!
The Long Goodbye-Based. Greatest film of all time, greatest novel of all time
Donkey Skin is one of my comfy films, I am glad you enjoyed it!
oh my god I have so many theories and predictions about Succession. so glad you appreciate it too!
Loveddddd The Sparks Brothers doc
I never clicked on something so fast lol
I watched The Fog for the first time too! It’s so damn good. Really brooding and gets under your skin. One of Carpenters best imo
I’ve been waiting for you
I really hope we get to hear your thoughts on The Beatles: Get Back for the December video!!!
Good Bad Ugly is my favourite film of all time. loved your take on it!
The long goodbye is a classic and that one million out of 5 is very authentic
sparks brothers reminded me of mic the snare's deep discog dives here on youtube. dude did the beatles in under an hour and a half, wright could've done the same
Take a shot every time he says "One of my favorite ______ of all time"
succession season 3 video yes, please! (also, as always with your 'what i watched..' my movie list is getting longer and longer...)
I NEEEEED! Another video on Succession! Please!
Ok this series is epic
Someone may already have commented this, but a quick note that Jonathan Larson wrote all of the music featured in Tick, Tick… Boom!, not Lin. He edited some numbers like Boho Days (which appears last in the musical and not second) and Green Green Dress (which appears only as background music in the movie), but even the numbers for Superbia are all works by Larsen himself, which is probably why they have this distinction from Lin’s work that makes it stand out.
If you already knew this I’m so sorry, I just didn’t want LMM to get credit for the music since he didn’t write it (not to trash on him, though!)
I watched The Long Goodbye for the first time 2 Days ago. I felt the same exact way!! Amazing film
Karsten - the only person to have 20 films in his top 5 favourites

Bruh finch is fucking amazing, great video
Jacque Demy is SOOO underated. Thanks for giving him coverage! The Young Girls of Rochefort and even The Umbrellas of Cherbourg are extraordinarily underrated. I'll definitely check out Donkey Skin.
You should really watch the eyes of Tammy Faye with Andrew Garfield giving one of my favorite performances from him
What I Watched in November:
Robots (x30)
please talk about succession on my god i love hearing peoples theories
It’s a series but I would love to see your take on Mad Men. There have been many comparisons of Don Draper and Bojack Horseman.
Karsten is awesome 👏

Oh yeah Chad Chad likes that movie if I'm not mistaken.
When you finally see licorice pizza can you do a vid ranking PTA?

Do you _want_ liver failure?
for a sec you had me thinking it was already December 😂😂
my succession prediction is that they're setting up kendall fucking up so often because he's gonna make a huge play in the season finale and its gonna pay off big time
I've BEEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO TALK ABOUT RED ROCKETS ITS INCREDIBLE
How did you see it? I've been dying to see it!!
@@Nuslerosh They did an Early screening at the Alamo Drafthouse near me in Dallas Early November and it was an excellent experience. Going again at least twice once it gets its wide release on December 10th
I really don't watch all that much towards the end of the year. This month, I watched Eternals, Jungle Cruise, Red Notice, and I usually don't talk about series, but I also watched Cowboy Bebop, the original, the movie, and the Netflix.
First, Eternals. I am heavily biased towards Marvel. I really liked it. I completely understand the low scores, it's a bit rough towards the beginning, but I think I liked it more than a lot of other Marvel movies.
Next, Jungle Cruise. It was a live action Disney movie. There's only been like 2 in the last 10 years I've liked, and this sure wasn't one of them.
Red Notice is a Netflix movie starring The Rock and Ryan Reynolds.
Now for Cowboy Bebop. I decided to watch it after seeing a trailer for the Netflix show and thinking it looked fun. I watched through the original (mostly during October) and I think it's my favorite anime now, I loved it. The movie was also pretty good. Then I watched the Netflix show. I didn't hate it. It was what I expected when I saw the trailer. It's absolutely nowhere near as good as the anime, but I also think it's nowhere near as bad as most people say it is.
Lol love how you brushed off Red Notice so quickly
You should do a Terrence Malick binge of sorts and watch some of his stuff
Then a compare and contrast with an Andrei Tarkovsky binge, that would be interesting
Please talk more about Succession.
Aw he called us wonderful aw
Please do a video about the new season of succession
I got to see the movie Encanto on my birthday 3 days ago, I’d say it was a really nice movie
Please do another video on Succession.
please make a season 3 video karsten
PLEASE do another video on succession
I was wondering if you thought about making a video about the writer Armando Iannucci?
Okay if you like Sparks please watch Annette (they did all of the music for it). I have never had an experience with a film where I've as conflicted to the quality of it as I did with this one. I hated it, my mum loved it. Half the people in the cinema I spoke to agreed with me, the other half my mum. It is aggressively... SOMETHING, but I still haven't worked out what. It may be one of the most bold films I've seen in the last decade and I never want to watch it again
For December, watch Z from Costas Gavras
