    I fully understood the concept of putting it in the oven, as the solder points do soften and settle back into place. This fix had not come to my mind, but when I saw the video I followed the simple instructions and it fixed the problem of the radio popping and going silent, as well as clock flashing intermittently. This radio has a new lease on life now. Thank you.

    • @CyrusDrake
      @CyrusDrake 9 місяців тому

      @@Motorcarnut I had to spend a little more for the steering wheel controls so it was a little over $400. I went with a Boss BE7ACP-C Package plus the PAC RP4-FD11 Wiring Interface. Might lose some of the button functionality but overall should still meet my needs. But yeah you're right I lose SYNC. I honestly never used it anyway so no loss there for me really.

    I just re-flowed mine with a solder iron and good flux. It’s working perfectly again. I don’t understand how the oven method will do anything to solder that has a melting temp between 500deg and 800deg? Glad it seems to be working and this isn’t the first I’ve heard of it but idk.

    • @Motorcarnut
      @Motorcarnut  15 днів тому

      It’s a tried and true method basically anyone can do. The soldering iron can cause more damage and most people don’t have one.

  • @The_Active_Region
    @The_Active_Region 5 місяців тому +2

    Resolder by hand Q201. It is a 8 pin IC or transistor pack. Heating in the oven trying to reflow lead free solder without flux on the board is pointless. It may work but not for long. You also risk further damage to the board and or connectors. The only way to reflow the board properly is to get it hot enough that it may melt or deform those connectors. The connectors are most likely added on after the main board is produced in another machine that wave solders them on. Also there is components on the the bottom side of the board that can fall off during the reflow if it is moved before cooled.

    • @Motorcarnut
      @Motorcarnut  5 місяців тому +1

      The problem part is a tiny, (head of a pin size) transistor which is almost imposable to solder by hand. Many people including myself had great success ( look at feedback) with this method. You have to remember this is a last attempt before buying a new stereo.

    • @Smith1000R
      @Smith1000R 2 місяці тому

      @@Motorcarnut Why would it be impossible to solder by hand? You need the right equipment and no problem.

    • @Motorcarnut
      @Motorcarnut  2 місяці тому

      @Smith1000R because the chip is the size of a pin head and the solder joints are even smaller. These were put in by a machine.

    • @Smith1000R
      @Smith1000R 2 місяці тому

      @@Motorcarnut What does it have to do with being made by a machine? I wrote that you can easily solder anything if you have the right tools. This is what we are talking about for hours, like soldering 0.1 mm wires under a microscope. This can even be done with capital letters. Putting the whole thing in the oven is a big risk! Also because of the plastic parts, but mostly because of the capacitors. They can get so hot, they are damaged.

    • @Motorcarnut
      @Motorcarnut  2 місяці тому

      @Smith1000R read comments, people have great success! I agree with the proper tools and experience you can get it done but that would not be something the masses would be able to do so on my channel that would be useless.

    I was an elec tech for years. The cooling part of this repair isnt that important. If youve reflowed the solder as described, its fixed for a long time. The problem is caused by thousands of hot/cold cycles finally causing a microscopic crack in a soldered joint. Seen it a million times.
