Amazed. Just like others I was doubting it, but followed your directions and now my system is working.. Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for the feedback!
I did exactly what he said....outstanding. Put it all back together, and it is working perfectly...
Thank you 😊
Fantastic! No problem! Thanks for the feedback!
I fully understood the concept of putting it in the oven, as the solder points do soften and settle back into place. This fix had not come to my mind, but when I saw the video I followed the simple instructions and it fixed the problem of the radio popping and going silent, as well as clock flashing intermittently. This radio has a new lease on life now. Thank you.
Awesome! Great to hear that and thanks for the feedback!
I was sceptical but it worked! Thank you
You're welcome!
Well…. I did it and it worked. Awesome thank you Sir. I gotta be honest, when you said put it in the over I was like Oh Boy here we go haha. I’m in the truck now rocking out
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback! Appreciated!!!!
worked for me! this was my last attempt to fix it myself. just like everyone else watching this i was skeptical about putting something in the oven for 16 minutes. i had nothing to lose since it didn’t work anymore. thank you!! time will tell how long it will work.
Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated!
followed your video, worked perfect! thank you
You're welcome! Glad it helped!
Worked perfectly, I followed exactly as you said!
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Appreciated!
Did it today - and it worked!!! Thank you. Be mindful that solder melts at 370 degrees. Your oven needs to reach that temp. When removing don’t shake or dip because solder can drip off or run. Good luck!
Excellent! Yes I did say not to move it around when taking it out of the oven. But good to state that again! Thanks!
This worked on our 2014 Ford F-150! THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome! Have a more permanent fix video as well!
I tried this method, and it worked!! Thanks a lot!
Glad it helped! And thanks for the feedback!
Only lasted for about a day unfortunately and the same problem started coming back 😢 tried baking it one more time but unfortunately seems it’s done for.
Damm, you know, if you match the numbers exactly to one on eBay you can probably get one that will last more. Because just to put a stereo in the f150 you have to get a dash kit , wiring harness and still will lose some features, it a big pain.
Great video! Very helpful thank you!
You're very welcome!
Absolutely worked my man thank you for sharing
Sure, no problem!
You don’t have to do anything but disassemble it down to the chip and put it in the oven on 375 degrees for 6-7 minutes. I just done it last night. It REALLY DOES WORK!!
Of course it does, I wouldn't put any video on my channel that didn't work. But the way you're skipping a part will destroy the CD player.
@@Motorcarnut what you men skipping a part? I said disassemble it down to the chip board. It will melt the plastics on the cd player if you don’t take it off.
Correct, I thought you meant not to take out the cd player.
Worked perfectly! Thank you! Best video I found.
Glad it helped! Thank you very much!
Welp it worked for about 3 days. Back to silence🤦♂️
@maverick275 I have a more permanent solution video check it out in video section
Wowww this really worked for me‼️
Thnxxxx
Most welcome 😊
My 2011 Ford F150 radio is doing just what you said the radio doesn’t work but the time I should say the clock is blinking. I’m gonna try to punch it first like you said and then I may try this. I just wanted to let you know, your video is fantastic.
Thank you! And good luck!
This works. Just foxed mine
Awesome, thanks for the feedback!
This worked for me
Awesome, thanks for the feedback
Thanks!
Thank you!
Really don't know how you know all this information but i'm gonna probably try this baking method. I've seen it all over the internet and gonna cross my fingers on this one. Thanks!
Yes, it's most likely the solder joints. Thank you again!.
@@Motorcarnut Just baked it. Will update you soon!
Didn't work 😢 I'm bummed. Now I'm looking into a touch screen replacement $300-400. Didn't wanna spend money but seems a better solution than getting the same radio or going to a mechanic. Thanks anyway bud!
Sorry it didn’t work out for you. Thanks for the update. The only problem with aftermarket stereos on these vehicles is you need an expensive dash kit and wiring and you lose some features like the sync steering wheel controls etc. well good luck!
@@Motorcarnut I had to spend a little more for the steering wheel controls so it was a little over $400. I went with a Boss BE7ACP-C Package plus the PAC RP4-FD11 Wiring Interface. Might lose some of the button functionality but overall should still meet my needs. But yeah you're right I lose SYNC. I honestly never used it anyway so no loss there for me really.
I try it on my ford and it work and fix my radio thx for the advice
No problem glad to help!
@@Motorcarnut Thx
I just re-flowed mine with a solder iron and good flux. It’s working perfectly again. I don’t understand how the oven method will do anything to solder that has a melting temp between 500deg and 800deg? Glad it seems to be working and this isn’t the first I’ve heard of it but idk.
It’s a tried and true method basically anyone can do. The soldering iron can cause more damage and most people don’t have one.
Resolder by hand Q201. It is a 8 pin IC or transistor pack. Heating in the oven trying to reflow lead free solder without flux on the board is pointless. It may work but not for long. You also risk further damage to the board and or connectors. The only way to reflow the board properly is to get it hot enough that it may melt or deform those connectors. The connectors are most likely added on after the main board is produced in another machine that wave solders them on. Also there is components on the the bottom side of the board that can fall off during the reflow if it is moved before cooled.
The problem part is a tiny, (head of a pin size) transistor which is almost imposable to solder by hand. Many people including myself had great success ( look at feedback) with this method. You have to remember this is a last attempt before buying a new stereo.
@@Motorcarnut Why would it be impossible to solder by hand? You need the right equipment and no problem.
@Smith1000R because the chip is the size of a pin head and the solder joints are even smaller. These were put in by a machine.
@@Motorcarnut What does it have to do with being made by a machine? I wrote that you can easily solder anything if you have the right tools. This is what we are talking about for hours, like soldering 0.1 mm wires under a microscope. This can even be done with capital letters. Putting the whole thing in the oven is a big risk! Also because of the plastic parts, but mostly because of the capacitors. They can get so hot, they are damaged.
@Smith1000R read comments, people have great success! I agree with the proper tools and experience you can get it done but that would not be something the masses would be able to do so on my channel that would be useless.
Might as well do my blend door actuator for the 3rd time while I have the radio out lol
Yep, good call!
Also should the time be adjusted for an oven that uses convection air flow? Or is a convection oven not advised?
That I don't know. This is not a science, it's a way to try and save your stereo.
Question i was doing this but my ribbon cable doesnt have tabs or clip to remove it. Is there a way to pull it out still?
Yes, just pull it out
There’s no release on the ribbon between CD player and motherboard. Did you just pull it out and do they slide back in?
Yes
Is the ribbon hard to remove. And does it need to be removed
@jerryschmidt4589 No it just slides out and yes it does
Tried it today didn't work for me
Trying this now. What is the significance of the wood? Would a ceramic plate work?
Yes
I have a 2012 ford F-150 my radio was making the same noise and shutting off, just the clock working, I removed the front panel, took out the two large wiring harnesses, cleaned with electrical connector cleaner reassembled. It worked for about three days, now not working again. Any thoughts.
Never did it like that so my only advise is to get a salvage one matching all numbers or something new aftermarket.
I did this and it worked for half a year maybe I should do a round two?
Can’t hurt considering a new stereo is a lot of money
How do you unhook the ribbon to the cd player?
Just pull it out evenly
would it be wiser to open oven door and shut oven off afterwards and just let it cool inside the oven so as to not "jar" the solder joints as it cools?
Yes, if you want to.
Can I just set it on like a metal pan
That may bring the temperature higher, I never tried it that way
Do you have a video on how to get the radio out of the truck?
The link is in the video as stated, but here:
m.ua-cam.com/video/DC1h6pL3ur4/v-deo.html
I was an elec tech for years. The cooling part of this repair isnt that important. If youve reflowed the solder as described, its fixed for a long time. The problem is caused by thousands of hot/cold cycles finally causing a microscopic crack in a soldered joint. Seen it a million times.
Thank you for the extra advice, appreciated.
are those temps celsius or farenheit?
Fahrenheit
Once heated for 10 minutes at 175 do you leave it in the oven while it's heating up to 385. If so, is that time part of the six minutes or does the 6 minutes start once it hits 385?
Yes, leave in the oven while it goes up to 385 and that is part of the 6 minutes, correct. Be careful when you remove from oven, solder will be just about flowing so don’t shake it until it’s cooled down.
Thanks. My radio is working again. My wife thought I was nuts,
Lol, thanks for the update, appreciated!
How do you unplug the cd harness
Just pulls straight out
How does he disconnect that tape looking fitting
Just pull it out
How do you disconnect the ribbon cable?
Just pull it out
I tried it but it did not work for me. Can't find one for less than $200 on eBay.. looks like I'm out a stereo.
$200 is not bad considering to put a new stereo in the f150 requires a dash kit, wiring and a new stereo can cost over a grand and still some features won’t work. If you do get a used one the model numbers must match exactly or it will have to be reprogrammed to your vehicle
Would a heat gun work?
Not really because the air can blow the chips right off the board.
@@Motorcarnut thanks for the reply, I’m probably just going to upgrade to a touch screen for navigation and just so I don’t have to worry about it anymore
@bruh2858 that’s the best , I did that with Aline, but keep in mind you need a new dash kit and interface for all your steering wheel controls etc.
Tried this method by script, No luck on this one, still has the clock flashing only, I guess I’m getting a new one.
Yes
This happend but by engine light is on
I don’t think it’s related but what code is it?
I’m reporting this video as witchcraft bc there’s no way sticking a circuit board in the oven just fixed my radio!
lol, you’re welcome!
New battery. All working
Didn't work!!
If you followed the video instructions then time for a new stereo
