And part number for just the pump only is a Bosch 69497 you will have to install this into the actual housing before you can even use this pump.

$1179 estimate at my local (non-dealer) shop. $87 online, and 20 minutes of labor was a lot better. This was a very helpful video.
Very very helpfull video
Same 😂
Having my guy fix mine rn 😂
@@jemilahowaynat6735 my guy charging me $300 wat about you??? Im debating on doing it myself
Thank you so much, the shop was charging me $700 to replace my fuel pump, then I saw your video and saved $550 by doing it myself...Thanks a bunch!!!!
Dude. Initially, I totally forgot to put the gasket back on too haha. Got as far as putting the seat back in when I looked down and saw it on the floor. Anyways, thanks to your video, I found out you had to place the gasket before you can put the fuel pump in.
Cheers Cody!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! MY GIRL IN GA, NEEDED A NEW PUMP AND YOU ANSWERED ALL OF MY QUESTIONS!! A GUY FROM FLORIDA THANKS YOU!!
Excellent video. Thanks!. Swapped the whole pump assembly on my 325xiT E46 this afternoon in 25 minutes. Surprisingly the one in there was likely OEM from 2002 since it had the OEM clip on the fuel line. Very long life pump considering the number of hours racked up over 188K miles of mixed use driving
(Update) i bought the pump assembly and replaced it....saved myself nearly 800 bucks.....thanks for the video!
Thank so much for the video. I just changed my fuel pump this am. Finally got rid of the problems associated with a dying fuel pump; from starting problems to struggling acceleration while on the road. I had to do process of elimination. From checking if the spark plugs were tight according to torq specs, to replacing 2 intake boots that had small cracks, to changing the fuel filter that was almost 3 years old anyway. Car is back on the road and growling like a tiger. Nice!
people can talk bad about these cars all they want but u cant deny bmw made it easy to fix just about everything. im a mechanic so i have no problem doing general maintenance on these that other cars dont need just because its so easy
Thanks brother, when my fuel pump gets here your video saved me $$$$
Thanks for the video Cody.. My car as of Friday had been doing the same thing. Ordered the Bosch 67896 which I hope resolves the issue. Had gotten a quote from Firestone and they were asking $350 for the pump and $400 for labor..!! Ended up getting the part on Amazon for $157 shipped! Thanks again.
Thanks very much Cody! I have spent HOURS trying, and failing, to get the collar back on, because I made the mistake of putting the gasket on the pump rather that on the tank. Once I fitted it onto the tank, the pump went in easily, and the collar screw on simply and securely. Thanks again!
I made the same mistake. Putting in the gasket first is the most important thing to know about that replacement job.
Bud you just saved me a lot of money, I appreciate it this more than you could possibly know. It was exactly as you described it.
Thank you so much! Saved me $250 in labor costs. It really only took about 5-10 mins but somehow the shop was going to charge me $250 for them to do it plus the new fuel pump.
cody you the man, thank you so much for the video. saved me close to $800 at the local dealer.
Thanks bro I was having trouble fitting gaskets and it really helped when I saw how you put them in!
211,000 miles and still kicking. Good little cars. Had the previous owner of mine taken good care of it, it'd still be kicking ass.
awesome video !!. so easy to get that pump out
you're the man. thanks brother. perfect guidance.
Great job! I appreciate the video. Clear and to the point!
That was awesome. I was just quoted $1,190 at the shop.
My car died outside the restaurant, halfway in a handicap spit, I went to the pick and pull found one that was still white, as far as the contraption goes, but the old one was so yellow it was almost brown, didn't even have to tow it, fixed it right there.
Thanks Cody.
I'm wearing head phones so everyone might not hear the weird ghost like humming but I do and it's perfect for the first day of October
thanx man for your video
Thanks bruh 👌🏾
You make putting the gasket in and making the fuel pump fit right in there so freakin easy. I have been messing with mine now for a half hour and can't get it to seat properly.
You may want to install the rubber seal first on the fuel tank. It is easier that way. Make sure the seal is properly aligned along the circular opening. Just then, can you install the new pump. I had difficulty when I installed the seal on the pump itself. That will not work. Plus the new rubber seal was slightly larger than the old seal.
ariel guieb Thanks ariel that is exactly what I ended up doing and it worked like a charm!
Thank you Cody, your video helped me out immensely and saved me a lot of money too!
Not yet Cody been working too much but I'm going to take a look into it and let you know. Thanks for your response.
Nice video on to the point 👌
Thanks. Doing my 2004 today.
Job was not that difficult. Have a new clamp ready. Also pump sits about 1/2 " high and needs to be jammed in while screwing housing back on. As long as it doesn't leak who cares.
Went well no gliches. Now cooling system is on the fritz.
+Ed Olearczyk (Edward Francis James) same with mine sits too high so when i try to screw it down it keeps popping back up
Hi there
I have got a 2007 BMW 328i is changing it going to be the same as yours?
Oh btw, try to grease up the contact surface of the metal ring that secures the pump. It was a bear removing that metal ring. Rust in many areas. Just a habit I have when taking things apart especially metal to metal contact areas. Although it is a metal to plastic in this particular job. It helps though when you have to revisit the sight somewhere down the road of repairs.
thanks man helped a lot
Glad it helped !!
I was surprised to see that this car uses just one fuel line on the pump cover. I will suspect that BMW runs the return line from the fuel injectors back to the tank elsewhere. Of course this makes replacing the pump much easier, than my 1990 Volvo 760GLE which has both lines on the same pump cover along with the fuel fill pipe, and vent line.
How can you tell if it's got an integrated pump or replaceable without pulling the back seats? My buddy's 03 is at a shop and we're debating on doing it ourselves.
Hey Cody, mine's an '03; cranks but doesn't turn over. At the beginning of this video you said this can't be done in some '03s. Which '03 can't it be done in, and if it can be done is it the same as this video?
Hello, does this work for a e36 also??? And other question is... how do I know that my problem is the fuel pump? The car is not starting right now, but after a few minutes then it starts...
Is the the same procedure for a 2004 325i?
You don't want to be whacking a metal screw driver on a metal retaining ring. around fuel
nice video ,and throughly explained ,good job ,Thank you.
Does the pump (67896 ) fit a 2004 325Ci? Im trying to purchase but some auto parts store is saying that it wont fit...i am leaning towards it does...
Hey quick question, I changed out my fuel pump. However I noticed that the fuel gauge level started rising as I drove. I'm thinking that its reading inaccurately. I also decided to pump some gas in to see if it would make a difference. The Fuel guage didnt move. Any ideas?
e46 2003 325i
Did you solve the problem, I have the same exact car
Till this day I didn't fix it (I will eventually, not a serious problem though.), Its actually TWO levers in the back seat of the e46. Right side, back seat is the fuel pump. That comes with the pump and the lever. The other side, left side is the passenger side Lever. That just has a Lever to equalize the tank on the other side.
I just suggest changing out fuel pump (Getting an authentic one or CLOSE to authentic fuel pump), and then changing the lever sensor on the other side.
In other words, TWO levers. Change em both. see if it makes a difference. It should.
My 2002 bmw seems to have a really hard time starting but once its started it runs perfectly fine. I have no engine codes coming up but the start issues started a few months back but now the car have a really really hard time starting. does that mean my fuel pump is going ?
yes was it?
Thanks for the video. I was hoping to find out what that extra wire is for. Also, a warning about doing this with a full tank would have been nice.
Did you ever find out?
I changed it but now my car has been smelling like gas after I filled it up and it says it's only 3/4 filled but I filled it up. As I have been driving the gas gauge was gone up but I can't tell if it's the correct reading. Really just want to know why it smells like gas. I can't tell if there has been a leak.
Thanks for the vid better then pellican parts stating a 3 hr job... Like WTf
Am I supposed to disconnect the battery before doing so?
Where did the gasket go? Is it easy for it to fall in the tank, if you're doing the job in poor lighting?
great video which is so helpful to people like me i'm quite hands on (electrician) but i'm hopeless at car faults , my E46 328i is my love where cars are concerned but its my secondary car & only comes out the garage blue mooney & normally in the summer but when I went to start it recently engine cranked but never started , ive put a new battery on which it really needed but from running fine to not starting next turn of the key i'm hoping if it isn't the fuse or relay its the pump that needs changing as shown in your excellent video thanks for the invaluable help , if you think I may have a different problem please let me know thanks again Robert, Kent UK
could it be that the engine light is on because of dying fuel pump? when i fill gas tank, the engine light goes off. when i have 10 liters left, the engine light comes on. sometimes it loses power, but you have to restart the engine with key.
Mine just went out the other day is it the same as an 01 325i to do like the 03?
Micky Taylor yea same from 2000 to 05
I replaced mine in August and in January got rear ended. Had body work repaired and mechanic said the fuel pump wasn't hooked up properly and needed repair. They fell short of saying it was getting rear ended as the cause. Insurance wouldn't cover reinstallation. Weird I went almost 6 months with no problems until accident.
How many fuel pumps do a BMW 325ci 2002 have
Hey Cody I have a question. I have a 2007 BMW 328i with 78,000 miles. I noticed my fuel pump does not look like y'alls. I looked up some information that BMW had a fuel pump recall years back. My car is not drivable now, but I was wondering if I can get in contact with you and show my style of fuel pump.
-Kennedy
Kennedy Emesibe This is because this is 4046 you have an E 90
Internets are showing that we have two fuel pumps. Will it be the exact same one as passenger side if I would replace both of them ?
If yours shows 2 pumps I would replace both of them.
Hi Cody, I have a 1991 BMW 740I, I think my fuel pump is a goner I can't locate the fuel test presser point and i don't know where the fuel pump is neither. Could you help me out? thanks Cody.
·
Tom T I would look like a video for e36 7 series fuel pump
is a 2004 the same
I have an 03 bmw 325i. I have removed the cover but the only thing there is just the wires connected to the fuel pump but no way to get to the actual pump it's self
make video on how to drop the fuel tank plzz
lol you would Matthew 😘
Hey man is this do-able if the tank is full? Do I have to worry about the fuel pressure? I haven't touched the car in 3 days
pull the fuel pump fuse before you even think about doing this job. Do not do this job when tank is close to full.
Sitting for 3 days first will drop the pressure enough to you won't get too much gas spilled. Always have rags handy.
hitty9 haha thanks. I did it anyway right after posting that comment. I did have some fuel rushing out of the fuel pump when I tired to pull it out. I had to let some of it leak out as I had no other option and didn't have any tools to empty out the fuel tank before I did it.
But, yeah. I had to disconnect the fuel pump fuse first to even try and pull out the fuel pump. All in All, what I did was kind of dangerous, with the fuel leak, but I did it and was successful at fixing it myself. It saved me a lot of money and time.
Happy ending always appreciated!
Same for 2006 325i?
I'm having troubles taking off the metal part on top of the fuel pump how'd yours come off so easily?
There is a seal but once it comes off the first time its easier the next time.
Thanks man this video helped me a lot and saved me money!!
Do you reco mmend disconnecting the battery when doing this
+Jessie Bustos Hmm. This one is kind of a no-brainer. You really want to connect hot wires, which will spark when you touch positive, inside a tank full of explosive material and fumes?
I replaced my fuel pump on my E90 330i 2006 and car started right up. However the furl sender unit that's on the driver side I think needs to be replaced as well due to the garage not reading correctly. I'm assuming it needs to be replaced because while driving my fuel gauge fluctuates and I'm assuming that the fuel sender doesn't come on right away. Did you have to later replace that fuel sender on your vehicle.
Darryl Foster No i didn't have any issues with that sending unit. So did you find what was wrong with yours ?
That sounds more like a problem with the fuel meter reader on the pump (the part that looks like a bicycle pedal)
Ojay I will check that and see. Thanks for the reply.
Darryl Foster Haven't heard from you. I found out there's a sensor that usually get's dirty that could prevent the gas gauge from working properly. I cleaned mine with alcohol and boom. Fixed. The other problem I was having was filling up my tank. I put the gasket in wrong, so no pressure was building up and next thing I knew gas all over the gas station....
Joseph Taylor When you said you cleaned yours with alcohol, I assume you had to remove the entire fuel pump to clean out the hinge for the float that gauges the fuel level? Also is your car a E90 model?
cody the car guy ive got a question would this be a bad fuel pump i have a 03 bmw 325i when i turn off my car the pump still runs for about 3 minutes is that a symptom of a bad fuel pump
Your pump should only run 3-5 seconds and then turn off until you crank the car over.
@@CodytheCarGuy my pump turns off after 3 secounds when i turn the car off does that mean the fuel pump is bad
@@patrickl3150no bro
"First, sit the gasket into place, then the pump to make it easier." Why oh why did it take me an hour of trying to stuff the pump (with gasket) into the hole, before remembering that he said this?
would this be the same for a 1995 bmw 325i?
Jose Vargas It’s mostly likely different thats a E 36
like i always said i understand shops need to make money but the cost is just to out ragious when when you can do it at home no much cheaper and u learn to pass on what you learn to others to help them same money that is all
Same for a 2004?
Do I have to do this on empty? Or drain the fuel? Do I have to remove the fuse too?
Id start it then remove the fuel pump fuse so it will take the pressure off and you dont have to drain the tank just if its full keep some rags in there to clean up any gas when you pull the pump out.
I have a question we are not sure if it the fuel pump or filter on my 325i and mine is a 2005. we tried to find the filter but we can not find it and we cant afford to go and get work done on it. its something we need to do ourselves. is there anyway you could msg me and we could talk and i can find the readings i got for the car and maybe you could help with this problem. i need my car because of my son and my bf works.
+Michelle Richards those are hard to find and a long slender filter and an expensive filter. We have a place in town that carries them. There is a port on the engine you can plug into to check pressure. Whats the car doing?
The fuel filter is underside the car, probably on the right. You can have a look at the parts catalogue here, that should give you an idea where to look.
bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E46-Touring/Europe/325i-M54/2005/browse/fuel_preparation_system/fuel_filter_pressure_regulator/
You can also use the parts catalogue to look up the parts number. Once you have that you can search for a replacement part. I checked and found that even amazon.com is selling them.
how much it costs fuel pomp
My 2014 328 fuel pump just died after 28K miles. No wonder they put the pump right under the seats. It is looking like regular maintenance.
It's a recall. They'll replace it for free
What would be the cost of this if I were to take to the mechanic to have them do this?
+Derek Palaguachi , I just got a quote for $900 for the fuel pump, fuel relay and replacement of both. I thanked them and will do it myself. A Siemens complete unit + seal ring + relay runs about $200 online. Neither job seems complicated.
Ok now show me how to do this on a 325i M56 Sulve with a internally sealed pump and metal fuel tank.
it wants to start but it won't and when they brought the reader over it was saying something with the air flow. I need to find the papers of what it said
+Michelle Richards Sometimes if the Secondary air or air pump fails and bmws dont have the extra "Push" to start. Good Luck.
randomly found you lol
how many fuel pump BMW 330i 2003 have please I need help my mechanic is telling me he's going to change two fuel pump is that true.
No one pump
solomon kibebew Sounds like you need a new mechanic LOL
Change it but still wouldn't start please help
What about the 2006
Mine doesn’t look like that :/
I have a 1995 325i I think the fuel pump is gone... where is the fuel pump location.....
under the back seat lol
Patty Alvillar bitch watch the fucking video
Flawed DIY, but thanks for the effort.
Hey, easy to do on a pump that has been done before. You've ignored all the extra steps that are valuable for the job if the pump has never been done before.
And stress the gasket should be new and totally inserted into the tank properly before the pump even comes close to the tank!
Only use Siemens/VDO original pump. Any other will quick fail.
Bosch is a great pump its a airtex you dont want to put in there they fail often,
Cody the Car Guy
Correct. I overlooked Bosch. I'd probably use that too.
But I'd not replace just the pump element. Do the whole unit. Sender fails too.
Diddo.
lol you would Matthew 😘
