  • MICHIGAN ARCHAEOLOGY, ANCIENT STONE TOOLS
A wide variety of ancient stone tools can be found throughout the state of Michigan from grooved axes to copper projectile points. Many tools do not fit the textbook definition assigned by archaeologists-and they tend to dispute any stone artifact outside of the norm. The only way to learn the truth is to dedicate vast amounts of time to studying archaeological sites and stone artifacts.

Archaeologists seem to dislike cortex, when it comes to flint based tools...At least in the UK...Cortex left on tools, allows for grip...Grip when the tool is wet, whether from blood, water or mud etc...A tool with grip, cortex, moulded into the general ergonomics, is far more useful regarding day to day work, than some lovely bi faced hand axe or knife etc, that might look nice to the eye but practically below par...I guess museums only want the stuff that is pleasing to the eye and looks like it was knapped by a modern art knapper...Yet none of the modern knappers, can create the multi faceted effigies I find here...Thanks again...
