- Jeff Loomis and I do a performance playthrough of Conquering Dystopia's "Inexhaustible Savagery", reamped through the PRS Archon amp.
All guitars were the album takes, reamped through the 100w 6L6 version of the head. The cabs are Hesu 2x12 cabs with Celestion V30 speakers. Drum mix by Mark Lewis at Audiohammer, song remix by Keith Merrow. Filmed at Jeff's studio in Seattle.

Video Notes- The amp is in 100w mode during the reamp section towards the end of the video. There were no noticeable tonal differences in 50w mode. The only difference I found was the volume is obviously lower, and the amp has slightly less gain. But, it sounded the same to me, tonally.
The tuning is A E A D G B E. Strings are Ernie Ball Cobalt 9-46 with a 62 low. www.ernieball.com/
I can't think of another metal guitarist that has the technical ability, phrasing, and melodic feel of Loomis. The man is in a league of his own, he and Keith together is epic.
Brandon Ellis
Wes Hauch is at the top of the game right now.
John petrucci
Wow Merrows Rhythm track on its own sounds killer
hell yea
Jeff's picking is amazing and definitly a motivation to reach.
FelixSchlegelMusic very few pick strikes. Such a fast left hand. Incredible talent
@@unclesamsmurderplan2015 Talent doesn't replace work. You might have an affinity but that won't help you get good. It'll help you get good faster than others maybe. It's simply just a smart approach to shredding. Why alternate pick everything when you can do pull offs, hammer ons, slides and such to make it sound fast to the listener while you can lean back and save energy? Stop worshipping them and sit down on and practice and you'll be able to do the same.
@@chrisking6695sliding and legato quite obviously sound different from straight alternate picking but maybe when you're a beginner you can't tell
Will never cease to amaze me how even when completely isolated with nothing else available to potentially cover it up, Jeff's playing is literally absolutely flawless.
I can't even do this on an air guitar.
+Jsalrulz i cant even imagine you doing it on air guitar...let alone me :D
Jsalrulz LOL
Great comment 👍
The magic of Jeff Loomis and Keith Merrow together can't be denied! I still listen to Conquering Dystopia all the time, and I was so fortunate to see them live! I have been a "LONG TIME" listener of instrumental music...all the way back to Satriani's - Not of this Earth, all the Shrapnel artist, etc. The Conquering Dystopia release is right there with the best I have ever heard! Those two together are just EPIC :)
+THK DOBIE Maybe in terms of technicality. I still feel that Jeff's best work was with Nevermore. I hope he gets to compose some for arch enemy although its a different type of music than nevermore. I also like his new tone with his new pickups (not this video, there's another one with him demo-ing that).
THK DOBIE hell yeah, so did i and got to meet and talk to all four of them. so fucking awesome.
Those are his signature sd blackouts theres no emg on the the pickup cover hes using the prototype that became his signature set
@@quitegenius The Nevermore riffs were waaay more awesome. This new stuff is all cool and difficult but it just doesn't stand out legendary like the Nevermore riffs did. I wish I could write something like any riff or solo of DNB for example but this CQ stuff....Even though I never could play it, i'm not envious of that at all
That Loomis solo was so clean, you can really hear every note, they are so distinguished from each other.
Usw a sharpy pick and you can hear every note of your playing as well.
I started listening to this and I was like 'yea... just another of those heavy metal stuff' , but then i got to 1 min or so and couldn't stop listening. These guys are so unbelievably talented, and the song is so heavy and still melodic, makes me want to have a 7 string. Jeff's picking speed and accuracy is truly godlike! Without a doubt the best player I've ever seen.
God.... Jeff Loomis is the smoothest guitarist in the universe.
Jeff and wes
For metal anyways. Much smoother guys in other genres.
that run at 1:32 wow
Zach Belcher his alternative picking/string skipping is crazy..
Killer stuff and the HESU cabs sound killer. Just a small company in Poland, they have somehow taken over the Metal world with the sheer quality of their gear. Well done there!
I love this amp. No regrets buying one.
Wanna buy me one
How silly of me to think Jeff Loomis was human.
Yeah that was a ridiculous misconception. lol
UA-cam called, they agree with me when i say, Both of your comments are on fuckin point!
He came to us during the Zero Order Phase from the planet Andromeda
Gods are still human, but only that gods do things human can never do.
I'd say he's a demigod at least.
I remeber when conquering dystopia first came out I was pumped to see this match made in hell and then the vid with alex websters playthrough and i lost my mind. Point is i still find myself in awe and get so pumped on it yrs later.
These archons definitely live up to their name, I've gigged mine a lot these past few weeks and it sounds killer; sits great in a mix live! Sick vid as always Keith and Jeff!
Thanks Keith! Always great to hear the Conquering Dystopia songs and I have been searching for more metal amp demos of the Archon. This video was very helpful! I hope people read the video notes as you answered my question on 100/50w tone.
One of the best rhythm & lead pairings of all time.
The dynamic duo...so explosive
Such an incredibly tight and musical tone
Absolute genius as always & it is great to see & hear the individual eq sweeps later on too!
You and Jeff are a totally INSANE music maker! Awesome!
It's a real blast seeing you 2 play together.
I love that melody at 2:00 and Merrow with his usual outstanding groove.
Perfect playthrough guys and awesome haircut Keith. Love it! :D
The tones are just crazy, awesome, killer, perfect!
The award for most brutal two fingered riff goes to Keith and Jeff!
As it has been said before, you guys show such a great chemistry together!!
When Jeff solos , I hear a lot of Marty Friedman in his playing .
Ty Rivera I hear Jason Becker
DethnDecay I hear both.
Ty Rivera I hear Jeff :P
Ty Rivera He often said that Cacophony was a big influence on his playing =)
Ty Rivera I hear Jeff fucking Loomis!!! Fuck marty friedman
this has to be the limit of what's humanly possible on guitar, this is just insane!
I've watched this about 12 times. God that TOOOOONE!
You know it's metal when it shreds your face off with amazement.
When did Nergal replace Keith? XD Awesome Demo.
It's nice to see another playthrough from CD :)
Very cool knob fiddling at the end to demonstrate what the amp is capable of. Cheers
Awesome stuff guys!!
Keith buddy!!! Please do a nuclear justice play through!!!!!
Love the PRS amp demo.
Insane shredding King Jeff
Super outrageous. Beautiful. Superfantastical
i was waiting this song a lot of time. My favorite song, greetings from argentina
Saw yall live in charleston sc yall killed it thanks for the upload and sick guitar kieth!!!
New Clonquering Dystopia album please!!
That guitar tone is impecable.
That sound, amazing !!
Very interesting to see them play the same riff but with different techniques. One using middle and index fingers for half steps, the other his ring and index fingers. Not exactly my kind of metal, but the talent is just unreal. Huge Webster fan too
I don't think it's very interesting. It's natural that we all have strong and weak fingers.
@@chrisking6695 🤣
Would you mind sharing your top 3 favorite guitarists? You named Webster,,, Thx, G
@@marketingbusiness9987 Tony Iommi, B.B. King, and The Hoffman brothers.
This Is Freakin' Awesome Duo !
wow... every parameter sounded so musical...
nice vid, nice amp
Jeff is kicking ass on this solo!!!
I will have nightmares just for listening to that solo track by Loomis. So fucking clean, not a single buzz
awesome playing
I cant get enough of the Loomis Signature, every version is so sexy
Woop! New Keith Merrow video.
Great tones!
This was so inspiring
1:33 that camera angle is so interesting and good
This is still a masterpiece !
Dear Keath!Your guitar is a perfect metal-instrument!and the guitar is very very beautyful
1:34 - 1:45 is one of the sickest riffs I ever heard. just breaks right into that sick riff. What a Badass
Conquering Dystopia for me is the new Nevermore! keep it up guys, it's killer !
Dat gnarly riff!
clean sound visout bass will so cold and cooll! it's take me in autumn on second!
Very cool arrangement, great tone, and super clean playing.
A little tip to the studio owner (not sure who the pictured setup belongs to): The Event Opal HF driver assembly/panel is supposed to be removed and rotated 90 degrees either clockwise or counterclockwise since the monitors are positioned horizontally. This will make the tweeter and surrounding concave area appear oriented more like a human eye. You should get a more accurate high frequency response this way :)
Dude.. Jeff is a solo beast.. and Keith as well damn !! O.O
Sneaking amazing music into gear demos.
Loomis got some big ass hands. His thumb is wrapped around a 7 string neck even when shredding up high. What super technicians and amazing talents...off to get my jaw wired shut now.
Gotta say that amp sounded better than I thought it would!
Good stuff!
You guys just keep killing it! Keith will there ever be another Demisery album?
Jeff loomis is one hell of a beast
keith and jeff are the sh!t.!!!! the sickest riffs and the sickest solos! hats off gents.
that jeff loomis signature in a black finish is fucking sick !
Keith could plug a guitar into a tampon and it would sound more metal than dethklok
I thought that was my comment for a second! 😂
Aidan Miller XD
Aidan Miller so you took the end of m and converted it into an i. That's pretty amazing
C très bon great sound super music & performance pro. thanks
Jeff Loomis is like me
He is not the guitar player we deserve
But he is the guitar player we need
Jeff got better after Nevermore, and that was already next level.
Keith has the most savage rhythm phrasing I've ever heard, and his stuffs also catchy and unique sounding.
I'm not even into instrumental music, but their stuff is different.
SICK!!!
love those schecters
to awsome guitarist this amp sounds killer..tone heaven
Loomis quitar God!
Always love these videos (: Hey Keith what pups are you and Jeff using in both your guitars? They dont look like the stock pups of the signature model haha
I think after the album with Keith and touring and possibly writing with Arch Enemy, Jeff's next solo endeavour will has a serious increase in writing
Cant wait. He said he will be doing some solo stuff this year. Its going to blow us out of the sky. Hopefully its Conquering Distopia 2nd album.
Do we realise that CD is the modern version of Cacophony?? I would SO enjoyed to see them live....
Straight rippin it!
Brutal song \m/
that amp is amazing
1:32 That's so fucking amazing!!! I get an Eargasm just listening to it on the album, but SEEING it makes it just like... I can't fucking describe it!
the search of 'savagery of the guitar' brought me here and let me say, I'm not disappointed
Mr. Rudinger killing it as always.
Superb
Safe to say you murdered it..
So sick...
this is just FUCKING AWSOME!!!!!!!!!
brilliance incarnate.
Sweet vid \m/
This is an awesome amp o_O
love it
Kinda wish the channels had separate depth and presence knobs. Sounds fantastic otherwise.
If I hit the lottery, this will definitely be one of my first amp purchases.
The your two styles compliment each other perfectly keep it rolling btw if anyone knows where i can buy their album let me know pls :)
Cool, now what about the post-EQ'ing? I refuse to believe that all the amps Keith demos has the exact same very specific midrange that makes up most of Keith's signature sound.
+Mikkel Scott - Guttural Slug/Septic Congestion
I definitely notice the same thing. Keith's productions all have pretty much the same tone (which is pretty Damn awesome). Nothing wrong with that- he clearly has a sound in his head he likes and works towards that.
I want a schecter Keith Merrow 8 string with black winter pickups and a black flame top that'd be so sick!!!
