I have restored 2 old axe heads found buried on my property and am enjoying using them almost daily. These videos really offer a lot of ideas. Thank you.
I have found that after the vinegar soak, warm soapy water and a stainless wire brush by hand work awesome. Dry the head and then use WD40 after the rinse job. Comes out alot better 👍👍
Try using that sander on future tools that to restore works great for me, not to long ago I restored my grandpa's maul. R.I.P grandpa 2017, the maul turned out great and it holds a special place in my heart.
I've been putting poly handles on them. Reason? Can grip them better! With less shock on the hands and arms. Glue them in for life, of never coming off
Its all ready bevel correctly! Just needs sharpen. These new mauls are to blunt, and have to bevel them correctly. or it want penetrate, and bust the log open. Rather? it will just bounce off the log and not penetrate > NICE MAUL HEAD On the ones that got a good wooden handle, That don't need another handle? I like to take a cutting dis, and make X's down the handle for grips > I hate a slick wooden handle
Well, very good restoration. Thumbs up! I have got a very old rusty head of a hammer that I would like to have restored by keeping it as original as possible. Would you do that? 🤔
What is the foaming spray that you used while cleaning the maul? Looking at cleaning up some wedges in the same fashion and would like to know what will keep them looking bright and shiny like this to prevent rusting.
Question about splitting maul: I have a splitting maul 6lb head that came off a plastic handle. I smashed the epoxy out etc and cleaned the head. As for every axe head, the bottom of the hole is marginally wider than the top, however the inside of the hole tapers in and then out by a small amount. Is this normal? I cant see from your video whether yours also does this. Can I make a handle that will be safe (tight enough at the top) without using epoxy, and just using wedges?

Thank you 😁, I just restore for fun for myself, not for people, sorry. But i felt really honored that you asked me 😊
What was the maul soaking in, and for how long?
@@mikejr23907 Vinegar and soda for about 2 or 3 days

It's called 'textile cleaner' from Techno. I bought in from a store called 'Action'.
Good luck with your project,
Need to restore.
Awesome thanks!

Top!
Looks to be a 6 pounder! Wrong a 8 lbs. The best all around maul is the 6 pounder
i dont think putting wood glue around the eye of the maul helped much in keeping it ferm
You need to tap the head on. No glue is required.
Sick
Thanks man 😉
